The woman, who also has
a baby living with her, denounced
She was not working at
the time and since leaving
home her ex-partner has refused
to pay any rent or child
support.
Reports are that the woman
and her child are now living
on the street while Tavernes
council have said they
have nowhere to house them.
A 16 month long national
investigation about the illegal
sale of archaeological
pieces has resulted in
the arrest of three men in
Denia, including an Irish
national.
The Seprona arm of the
Guardia Civil became aware
of the possible sale of goods
in July 2018 and started an
investigation that also involved
museums in Alicante,
Malaga and Madrid.
The agents tracked down
an online auction of 219 artefacts
including ornaments,
jewellery, coins and clothing
dating back to Roman times
or earlier that it is believe
came from sites in Madrid,
Israel and the Balkans.
The auction was being run
by an antiques shop in Denia
and, when questioned,
the owner was unable to adequately
verify the origin of
the items.
He said he was acting as
an intermediary for an Italian
citizen who is also being
questioned.
Representatives from the
museums and also Alicante
University are now tasked
with identifying the pieces
and whether they were
stolen.
Early indications are that
all of them are authentic and
may have been taken from
archaeological sites, both
here and abroad.
The oldest artefacts date
back to Neolithic times as
well as coming from the Iron
Age, Bronze Age and 1st to
5th century Roman times.
The three detainees, an
Irishman, Italian and Spaniard,
are all resident in the
Racism rears its ugly head
IT is difficult to say whether
racism here in Spain is
getting worse or people
are more likely to complain
about what might
once have seemed almost
acceptable, but a recent
incident on a Madrid bus
by Simon Russell
has shocked many.
A young Spanish man was
filmed telling a Latin American
woman to “go back to her
own f*****g country” after
she refused to swap seats
with him, a rant he continued
after she said she was in
her own country, something
which seemed to infuriate
him even more.
When she gets off the bus
the man is seen hitting and
kicking her while a female
Valencian Community, two
of them in Alicante province.
They have initially been
charged with fraud and crimes
against historical heritage.
friend tries to restrain him.
The victim has not yet
made an official complaint,
but the video has gone viral,
asking many to call for
action.
In Spain there has long
been an underlying racism
among a few against the
millions of Latin Americans
who live and work here.
