Affordable adventure
on Vasco de Gama
Newport Travel is excited
to announce the arrival of
‘Vasco da Gama’ into Sydney
on December 1.
Vasco da Gama is part of the
Cruise and Maritime Voyages
(CMV) fleet of five smaller,
classic ocean-going ships
which have been beautifully
restored, with the aim of
making affordable, adventure
cruising accessible to all.
The freshly refurbished
Vasco da Gama is the latest
ship of the CMV fleet to be
based in Australia for the
summer season. Onboard,
travellers experience a country
club-like ambiance with
friendly personalised service,
and the ship boasts a wellearnt
95 per cent customer
satisfaction rate.
Vasco da Gama holds just
1,220 guests, yet boasts two
swimming pools, a state-ofthe-art
Wellness Centre and
Spa, a two-tiered theatre and
five comfortable bars and
lounges.
For the culinary inclined,
there are six dining venues
featuring international
cuisine and the ‘Chef’s
Table’ providing a gourmet
degustation menu and insights
into the workings of the galley.
Vasco da Gama is suitable
for first-time cruisers through
to experienced travellers; for
singles, couples and multigenerational
families.
Solo cruisers will love having
their own spacious cabin
(with 40 to choose from) for a
generous supplement of just
25 per cent. There are special
welcome cocktail parties as
well as get-togethers to meet
other fellow travellers.
Newport Travel’s Chris Riou
said that being a smaller ship,
Vasco da Gama could fit into
small harbours unreachable
by bigger ocean liners and so
could offer truly innovative and
adventurous itineraries. She
said the Australian ports of call
would include Phillip Island,
Kangaroo Island, Esperance,
Geraldton and Kuri Bay to the
north of Broome.

an audio-visual presentation
and talk on December 10 with
CMV cruise’s Faye Larrarte who
will share her experience of life
on board the Vasco da Gama
as well as the special features
and itineraries of the other
ships in the CMV fleet: Astoria,
Marco Polo, Magellan and
Columbus,” Chris said.
