SPROCKETS: A Look Back
by David Robertson, Region President
Here we are at the end of the year once again. The year
2019 seemed to fly by, and the fact that it is December
already has
taken me by
surprise.
My term
as Maverick
Region
President will
come to an end
on December
31. Soon after
I joined the
Maverick region
in 2012, I was
immediately
impressed with
the time and effort that everyone put into making this
club a success and wanted to get involved. My wife Tracy
and I started volunteering at several events and found that
it was a lot of fun! We quickly met a lot of our members
and through events like Schnell Fest, Palooza, and
Boxtoberfest, we started meeting PCA members from all
over the country. We started attending and volunteering
at Autocrosses, Tours, and Socials, and really realized
what a great group of people we have in the club. Tracy
soon became the Social Chair and I started attending
board meetings with her to see how the mechanics of
the organization worked. I became Vice President of the
board in 2016 and later that year, due to an illness, I
stepped in for the President. Fast-forward to December
2019 and it has been an amazing three and a half years as
the President of the Maverick Region.
The Maverick Region has had an
incredible year, and there is a great
deal of momentum heading into
2020. Just a few years ago it would
have been hard to imagine that we
would have over 3000 members!
Our membership continues to
grow, and the activities planned
reflect the excitement and growth
of the club.
MAV OF THE MONTH:
Bill Middleton
Throughout my time on the board we have seen
tremendous growth, revitalization of existing programs,
and popular new events that experience phenomenal
attendance. All the credit goes to our event chairs and
other volunteers that put many hours into making existing
programs better and coming up with new activities to
keep our members engaged and excited to participate.
I mention all of this to say that even though I’m leaving
the board, I still look forward to volunteering within the
club in the future. The Maverick Region only exists due
to the time and enthusiasm of our volunteers, and I am
confident in saying that we have some of the best!
If you have been to a Maverick event, then it is probable that Bill has taken your
picture. He attends most of our events with camera in hand and posts great photos
shortly afterwards.
In addition to volunteering for the Maverick Region, Bill has been very closely
associated with the Huffaker-Hughes Hope House for many years and was
instrumental in their remodel during the mid-2000s. The Huffaker-Hughes Hope
House is one of the Maverick Region’s primary charities and Bill continues to work
closely with that organization today. Thank you, Bill, for your volunteer efforts
within the Maverick Region and very important work with the Huffaker-Hughes
Hope House!
