Students put faith into action
Students at Westminster Christian Academy
collected about 35,000 items to benefit
Westminster’s Faith in Action partner
agencies in 2019.

Pajama Day at Kirk Day
Kirk Day School partnered with One
Heart Family Ministries this year by hosting
a Pajama Day Fundraiser benefiting
the organization. One Heart Family Ministry
supports families during the foster
care process. From learning about foster
care to taking the required training and
eventually having foster children join
their family, the ministry provides assistance
and encouragement throughout the
entire journey.
Each holiday season, One Heart Family
Ministry cares for its families through a
Christmas Blessings program.
Families can register to receive a new
pair of pajamas and a Christmas gift for
each child in their home.
For a $5 donation, Kirk Day students
were permitted to wear their pajamas to
school. Collectively, the school raised
$1781.00. All event proceeds will go
directly into purchasing gifts for One
Heart’s Christmas Blessings.
Another perfect ACT in Parkway
Junior Kaitlyn Ying of Parkway South
High recently scored a 36 – the highest
possible score – on the ACT college admissions
and placement exam.
Nationally, while the actual number of
students earning the top score varies from
year to year, only around two-tenths of 1%
of students who take the ACT earn a top
score. In the U.S. high school graduating
class of 2018, only 3,741 out of over 1.9
Local school hosts WanderbUS
On Nov. 13, Marquette High hosted the
WanderbUs, an educational 18-wheel bus
that is sponsored by the German Federal
Foreign Office and The Goethe-Institut,
a non-profit German cultural association
promoting the study of the German language
abroad. The bus has visited over 60
schools and universities across the county.
Inside the vehicle, education professionals
facilitated a combination of informational
sessions and entertainment
highlighting the benefits of learning the
German language and culture. Students
studying German took part in virtual reality
tours and played interactive games.
“We are very honored to be chosen as a
host site,” Marquette German teacher Kim
Hotze, who organized bringing the WanderbUS
to the school, said. “We are one of
the last three stops.

“It is such a blessing to see how the community
comes together to help our students
learn to give generously,” Susie Brown,
director of student life, said.
Partner agencies included Sunshine
Ministries, African Vision of Hope, the
Little Bit Foundation, BWorks, One Heart
Ministries and Operation Christmas Child.
The students will end this calendar year
by serving as volunteers in some of these
agencies.
