Rangi Ruru take out water polo title<br />

RANGI RURU Girls’ School<br />

junior water polo team are the<br />

best in the South Island, after<br />

winning the South Island junior<br />

secondary schools water polo<br />

tournament for the second year<br />

in a row.<br />

The team played six roundrobin<br />

games held at Blenheim’s<br />

Marlborough Lines Stadium 2000<br />

last weekend and went through<br />

the rounds undefeated.<br />

A fierce contest in the final<br />

against Marlborough Girls’ College,<br />

with the college having the<br />

home advantage, saw the Rangi<br />

side stay composed to take the<br />

game and title with a 7-6 win.<br />

Rangi retained the title the<br />

team won in 2018, and students<br />

Aggie Weston and Hayley Bond<br />

were named in the tournament<br />

team.<br />

The team’s South Island title<br />

came a week after beating St<br />

Margaret’s College to win the<br />

Canterbury title.<br />

Rangi’s director of sport,<br />

Mandy Anderson was proud of<br />

the development of the water<br />

polo programme at the school<br />

over the last two years.<br />

“I’d like to acknowledge all of<br />

our coaches, and particularly Zoli<br />

Boros, the New Zealand men’s<br />

and secondary schoolboys water<br />

polo coach, who is a significant<br />

addition to our coaching talent at<br />

Rangi.”<br />

Entertainers draw the crowds at Celebrate Bishopdale<br />

The Celebrate Bishopdale event last weekend<br />

attracted a good crowd. The Bishopdale Skate<br />

Jam was also held on November 24, where<br />

people were able to make suggestions on<br />

what they would like included in the new skate<br />

park. Families were entertained by archery,<br />

henna tattoos, climbing towers, a bouncy<br />

castle, and even the chance to test their speed<br />

against a police radar gun, as well as food and<br />

local stalls.<br />

Young dancers from MexidaNZ entertained the crowd.<br />

The Scoil Rince Kay-Hallissey Irish Dancers<br />

showcased their talent.<br />

The Isleworth School kapa haka group were<br />

among performers.<br />
