chaldean on the STREET Lenten Lessons Lent is a time of reflection and renewal. What are your hopes, goals or reflections this Lenten season? This Lenten season I hope to gain the ability to love as much as Jesus loves. The love we need to show other people is one of the most important and beautiful ways of showing who Jesus is. When Jesus died for us it was the most ultimate sacrifice, which was full of love, so I hope that with a lot of meditation on Jesus’ passion, I can have His heart replace mine to love more. – Matthew Matti, 23, Sterling Heights This year during Lent, I’m planning on really learning more about our church traditions and working to follow them as best as possible. Lent has so many great traditions, passed on generation after generation in order to help people get closer to God. This is something I really respect, and I‘m excited to embark on this spiritual journey, in prayer and reflection on the miracle of the Resurrection. – Rajaa Sheena, 23, Keego Harbor This Lenten season, I plan on really dedicating time each day to get closer and closer to God. Lent is the perfect time to begin routines of praying more, of fasting and of increased reflection on the many miracles of life. I will strive to make sure these routines transcend lent, helping me move forward spiritually through the rest of the year! – Reem Abdaal, 22, Shelby Township During this year’s Lenten season, I’m hoping to strengthen and maintain my relationship with God. I want to offer everything up to Him in prayer and fasting for the intentions of the people around me, and I aim to continue to do so after Lent is over. My main goal is to glorify Him in all that I do, and it’s important to be conscious of that! – Jasmine Jarjis, 20, Sterling Heights Lent is the season of Penance, and during this season I will work to make it a part of my life. I recently got engaged and I strongly believe that any relationship without God has no true meaning of love. Me & my fiancé will practice Penance this Lenten season by learning how to be become closer to God (with the power of prayer), repenting from our sins and turning our hearts on the right path of reconciliation. – Marna Kashat, 23, Troy What I hope to gain this Lenten season may sound generic, but it is to rekindle my relationship with the Lord. As I have taken on new responsibilities of adulthood, I have only been meeting my minimal requirements as a Catholic man. Although I work in a service career, my profession brings a lot of stressors that can sometimes become overwhelming and distract from the greater purpose of my calling. I hope to re-establish former Catholic practices. – Dominick Alton, 27, Novi 32 CHALDEAN NEWS MARCH 2020
