Active Autumn
Active Autumn, the Council’s annual active
transport initiative, will be kicking off for its third
year in Term 2. For the month of May, children
will be encouraged to get active by walking or
wheeling their way to school with the opportunity
to win some great prizes. In 2019 there were
over 3,500 children across Selwyn involved and
this year is shaping up to be even bigger.
Active transport has many benefits for the
school community from reducing congestion
at the school gate to developing road safety
awareness. Contact roadsafety@selwyn.govt.nz
to get your school involved.
FLUSH YOUR TAPS
Some plumbing fittings have
the potential to allow minute
traces of metals to accumulate
in water standing in the fittings
for several hours. Although the
health risk is small, the Ministry
of Health recommends that you
flush a mugful of water from
your drinking-water tap each
morning before use to remove
any metals that may have
dissolved from the plumbing
fittings. We are recommending
this simple precaution for all
households, including those
Tennyson Street is closed from 43 Tennyson Street to the Rolleston Police Station
due to the Rolleston Town Centre infrastructure upgrade. Lowes Road is one way
both sides of the Tennyson Street intersection, open to traffic travelling away from
the intersection, due to the intersection upgrade. Traffic management will also be in
place on Tennyson Street from Bronte Way to just south of the intersection. Speed
restrictions are in place on Springs Road between Birchs Road and Trents Road due
to maintenance work on the water system.
Seal repairs and resurfacing are taking place on Wards Road and Birchs Road, Old West Coast Road,
Cullens Road and Clintons Road. Traffic management will be in place for these works. Footpath
construction is taking place in Rolleston on Chaucer Street and Lowes Road. These footpaths will be
closed during construction.
NZTA has advised that Hoskyns Road is left in and left out only at State Highway 1. The Weedons
Interchange is now fully open and Berketts Road is open for left turn in (southbound) traffic only from
State Highway 1.
