Although there is that certain special spirit and exhilarating energy of going to train at the gym or training studio, in today’s society, it is not always possible to take time out of every day to hit the gym, hence why keeping fit from home is a fab alternative. With ever evolving technology, there are a plethora of options for keeping fit from home, from Les Mills on Demand and Peloton, to Youtube channels galore. Although each have their advantages, the key is ensuring you choose quality over popularity or ease. Whichever option you select, it is a great way of not only keeping fit, but also working out with your family. For a more personalised approach, it can often pay to look local. With technology working it’s magic in our society, there are various online options available that can motivate and help keep you fit from home with more personalised training tailored to you. Even if online, virtual training doesn’t tickle your taste bud, we can all easily do certain exercises at home that don’t require any equipment at all, yet can still make all the difference in helping us achieve our fitness goals. So with that in mind, here are five simple yet highly effective exercises to do from the comfort of your own home with no special equipment required: 1. Pulse squats Start by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart, resting your arms down at your sides. While bracing your core and keeping your chest up and neck neutral, bend your knees and push your hips back as if you’re going to sit in a chair. When your thighs are parallel to the floor, pause. The benefit of pulsing is that you are constantly PULSE SQUAT stimulating and engaging the muscles. This also allows you to hold the movement longer as you are not releasing and re-engaging that connection. You can do more reps with smaller movements (like squat pulses), which work your muscles in a different way than doing full-range. 2. Press ups Yes, one of the good old classic exercises that even after years, is still one of the best exercises you can do equipment free. The best way to do a push-up is to think of it as a moving plank. The correct setup for a standard pushup is to position your hands shoulder-width apart, or a little bit wider. As you bend your elbows and lower toward the ground, your elbows should be at about a 45-degree angle to your body. 26
