THE VERDICT
The homeowner loves
their garden as it ticks all
the boxes for Arabesque
style entertaining alfresco.
What was once a patch
of sand is now fit to host
parties all winter long.
Five top tips
Arushi Bhatngar, creative
director at Fiona Environs
shares her top tips for a
show-stopping garden
1 When choosing plants, opt for flora native
to the region. Cacti and succulents are lowhydration
plants, meaning they require less
water, which makes them a sustainable choice
– both for your wallet and the environment.
2 Use permeable paving (pavements
with spaces between them). They not
only look elegant but help to avoid flooding,
while keeping soil erosion under control and
soaking up rainwater.
3 Enhance the space by using different types of
lighting. I like using LED strip lights under steps,
focus lights between plants and wall-recessed
lights to create an interesting design language.
4 A sure-fire way to add the wow factor
to your garden is with a beautiful infinity
swimming pool. You’ll end up spending more
time outside as you’re able to use the pool
year-round and it adds an instant point of
interest to the space.
5 For a unique look, consider using grey
porcelain in swimming pools and water
features. It looks beautiful when submerged
in water.
