SAHIH BUKHARI VOLUME 9 > BOOK 93: ONENESS, UNIQUENESS OF ALLAH (TAWHEED)<br />

Volume 9, Book 93, Number 616:<br />

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:<br />

regarding the explanation of the Verse:-- '(O Muhammad!) Neither say your prayer aloud, nor say<br />

it in a low tone.' (17.110) This Verse was revealed while Allah's Apostle was hiding himself at Mecca.<br />

At that time, when he led his companions in prayer, he used to raise his voice while reciting the<br />

Qur'an; and if the pagans heard him, they would abuse the Qur'an, its Revealer, and the one who<br />

brought it. So Allah said to His Prophet: "Neither say your prayer aloud. i.e., your recitation (of<br />

Qur'an) lest the pagans should hear (it) and abuse the Quran" nor say it in a low tone, "lest your<br />

voice should fail to reach your companions, "but follow a way between." (17.110)<br />

Volume 9, Book 93, Number 617:<br />

Narrated 'Aisha:<br />

The Verse:-- '(O Muhammad!) Neither say your prayer aloud nor say it in a low tone.' (17.110)<br />

was revealed in connection with the invocations.<br />

Volume 9, Book 93, Number 618:<br />

Narrated Abu Salama:<br />

Abu Huraira said, "Allah's Apostle said, 'Whoever does not recite Qur'an in a nice voice is not from<br />

us,' and others said extra," (that means) to recite it aloud."<br />

Volume 9, Book 93, Number 619:<br />

Narrated Abu Huraira:<br />

Allah's Apostle said, "Not to wish to be the like of except the like of two men: a man whom Allah<br />

has given the Qur'an and he recites it during the hours of the night and the hours of the day, in<br />

which case one may say, "If I were given the same as this man has been given, I would do the same as<br />

he is doing.' The other is a man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it in the right way, in<br />

which case one may say, 'If I were given the same as he has been given, I would do the same as he is<br />

doing."<br />

Volume 9, Book 93, Number 620:<br />

Narrated Salim's father:<br />

The Prophet said, "Not to wish to be the like of except the like of two (persons): a man whom Allah<br />

has given the knowledge of the Quran and he recites it during the hours of the night and the hours<br />
