Looking back

to 2019

Looking back to 2019, the

Trakehner breed worldwide

showcased the versatility of the

breed with victories at the highest

level. Looking ahead to the New

Year, the focus of many of those

top competitors will be the Tokyo

Olympics. We expect to see Jessica

Von Bredow-Werndl on the German

team with her incredible mare TSF

Dalera BB (Easy Game x Handryk).

This winter has already seen the

pair record victory at the Stuttgart

World Cup qualifier posting an

incredible 88.44% score.

Also looking a very strong candidate

for Olympic selection for the USA is

eventer Boyd Martin and Tsetserleg

(Windfall x Buddenbrock) having

rounded off 2019 with the gold

medal in the Pan American games.

Boyd has spoken publicly of his

love of the Trakehner breed as the

ultimate event horse, combining

blood, athleticism and great heart.

It is likely the pair will be aiming

for the 5 star at Kentucky in April

where they came a close second in

2019.

On home soil, Horse and Hound

nominated Sonnar Murray Brown

and his 13 year old gelding

Erlentanz (Latimer x Benz) as

ones to watch for 2020. On their

first outing together since Sonnar

took back the reins from Charlotte

Dujardin, they convincingly won

the Grand Prix at Hartpury with

74.4%. They will be really pushing

for a team place at Tokyo and

certainly will be representing Great

Britain at international competition

through the year.

The Trakehners UK committee

are already making plans for the

2020 season. Sadly the annual

show is not yet attracting a large

enough volume of entries to cover

www.trakehners.uk.com

the costs of venue hire and flying

over an international judge from

the Verband. Therefore in 2020

there will be a regional tour to

allow mare and foal inspections

to take place whilst minimising

the distance members will need

to travel their horses. Full details

of the tour dates will be available

on our FaceBook page and on the

website in due course. If anyone

has a colt or stallion they wish to

put forward for stallion licensing,

then please get in contact so

we can make the appropriate

arrangements.

We will also have graders available

to attend some dates on the

Elite Foal Tour or the Futurity if

anyone is considering taking their

Trakehner foal to either event and

would like a studbook evaluation.

Please get in contact if there are

specific dates at either of these

events that you are planning on

taking a Trakehner foal to.

There are encouraging signs that

breeders are actively looking for

Trakehner mares to add to their

breeding herd and that many are

looking at breeding pure breds from

those mares. As a small studbook it

is important that we keep breeding

and reminding competitors that the

Trakehner is their perfect option

for sport. If you are looking for a

pure bred mare to buy or lease for

the 2020 breeding season, please

contact one of the committee and

we may be able to help you find

your perfect partner.
