Michael’s Celebrates 10 Years The Hart School <strong>in</strong> Rugeley is celebrat<strong>in</strong>g the success of one of its pupils <strong>in</strong> a national public speak<strong>in</strong>g competition. The contest, which was open to all Sixth Forms <strong>in</strong> Creative Education Trust schools across the country, saw 18-year-old Eddie Jenk<strong>in</strong>s make the f<strong>in</strong>al. Prelim<strong>in</strong>ary rounds were held at <strong>in</strong>dividual schools and the f<strong>in</strong>al, held at Nott<strong>in</strong>gham Guild Hall, saw contestants tasked with deliver<strong>in</strong>g a 10-m<strong>in</strong>ute speech on the theme of “People get ready”. Eddie was the proud runner-up and received high praise from the panel of judges, who commended the teenager’s “wit and <strong>in</strong>genuity” <strong>in</strong> deliver<strong>in</strong>g his speech. Follow<strong>in</strong>g 40 years at Taylers, Michael had set his heart on open<strong>in</strong>g his own <strong>in</strong>dependent outfitter, a dream which was realised <strong>in</strong> 2009 when Michael’s Menswear first opened its doors on Market Street. Now, 10 years on, the bus<strong>in</strong>ess is still flourish<strong>in</strong>g. Festive Charity Tractors The Staffordshire countryside saw 82 festive tractors take to the road <strong>in</strong> a charity Christmas convoy on 8th December which raised more than £3,600 for WaterAid; Staffordshire Young Farmers Clubs and The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution. Arranged by South Staffs Water and Staffordshire Young Farmers Clubs, the cavalcade of tractors was lit up with Christmas lights and travelled a 20-mile route through the villages of Hamstall Ridware, Abbots Bromley, Blithfield, Hill Ridware and over Blithfield Reservoir. <strong>Lichfield</strong> District Council has unveiled a series of Visit <strong>Lichfield</strong> promotional boards, highlight<strong>in</strong>g the best th<strong>in</strong>gs about <strong>Lichfield</strong> District, to improve the look and feel of the Birm<strong>in</strong>gham Road site hoard<strong>in</strong>gs. From district-wide attractions, restaurants, shops and festivals, the artwork will promote a range of local dest<strong>in</strong>ations and events to residents and visitors pass<strong>in</strong>g by this gateway to the city. This is the first part of the short-term works to improve the area while the long-term city masterplan is developed. The group meets weekly on Tuesday at 9.30am at Curborough Community Centre where members pick litter for an hour and then have a coffee and chat.
