New Year, New Chapter, New You? Boxing Studio is Changing Minds ............................ ALichfield fitness centre run by a group of sports stars has opened up the world of boxing to groups who might have previously considered it as 'hostile' and 'intimidating'. Traditionally seen as testosterone-filled environments, boxing clubs can often be intimidating places to work out in. However, BeatBox boxing studios Lichfield, has brought boxing fitness to a wider audience by breaking down stereotypes surrounding the sport, and has seen a reversal to this often-held view, with 75% of memberships coming from female clients, even though the fitness concept is designed to make boxing accessible to all. The next-generation boxing fitness centre allows members to learn the art of boxing in a dark, party-like atmosphere, and get ‘boxing fit’ when the lights go out. Derby County goalkeeper and now BeatBox Director, Scott Carson, said: “We created BeatBox for anyone who wants to have the physique that boxing training provides, but without having to getting in to the ring to fight.” Carson, the Manchester City goalkeeper, believes the main attraction has been the novel ‘night club’ training facilities. “When you are dancing in a nightclub,” Carson explains, “you are less inhibited than if you were dancing away, fully lit in daylight. So, we thought, why would a workout be any different?” With all the facilities of a regular boxing gym, members work out in a nightclub environment, boxing in a dark area to urban music genres, such as hip-hop, rap, or house-themed classes.
