Charity of the Year
The machinery, which was collected over many
years by the late owner of the farm, was fired
up in a rare event which saw visitors come from
far and wide to catch a glimpse of the vintage
gear in action.

Citylife in Lichfield is delighted to have chosen
the We Love Lichfield Fund as its Charity of the
Year for 2020.
It is the first time that Citylife has had a
nominated charity to support and this year will
see several events taking place by the Citylife
team to raise money for this worthy cause,
including the Great North Swim and a 10-
kilometre run through Snowdonia National
Park!

Campaign
The judging panel recognised that LDC’s work
has been instrumental in demonstrating that
gains could be delivered through development
and has shown how local planning policy could
be designed to enable this. And in doing so has
played a significant role in influencing the
introduction of a mandate for biodiversity net
gain in England.

What the
Postman Saw
Get rid of the January blues and sample more
than 30 beers and ciders on 17th-18th January
at the Lichfield Winter Beer Festival, held at the
Guildhall. Besides the real ales you can also
enjoy the legendary pork pies and, if you are
really lucky, get a taste of the Rhubarb Chutney!
Two bands, ‘Punch the Air’ and ‘Over & Out’,
will be performing on Friday and Saturday.
Doors open at noon each day and admission is
£2, or £3 after 6pm. Tickets can be purchased

Vintage Machinery
Charity Day
Tuppenhurst Barn, a luxury B&B and café
located on the outskirts of the village of
Handsacre, opened the doors of its museum on
30th November by holding a Vintage Machinery
Day, and raising £165.94 for the British Heart
Foundation.

Specsavers Lichfield branch, on Market Street,
teamed up with local road safety charity, Brake,
to encourage people to ‘step up for safer
streets.’ Optometrist, Praful Patel (pictured),
got involved by visiting local schools and groups
(including the Cathedral School, Streethay
Primary School, Willows Primary School and
Gentleshaw Brownie Group) to hand over the
safety gear.

Council Wins Ecology
Award
Lichfield District Council (LDC) has won the
Local Government Changing the Way We Work
award for its biodiversity model at a ceremony
held on Tuesday 3rd December by The
Association of Local Government Ecologists.
To help protect, restore and enhance its local
biodiversity, LDC’s ecology team created a net
gain Lichfield model that formed part of its
planning process. The model ensures developers
commit to off-set any potential loss of natural
habitat by creating or protecting natural spaces
within the development, or funding work to
enhance existing local natural habitats within
the district.
A local exhibition of Edwardian Christmas
postcards, entitled What the Postman Saw, will
be on display at the History Access Point at The
Hub at St Mary’s on Market Square, until 11th
January.
