Date set for
Hororata Highland Games
ANOTHER MAJOR event
in the district will go ahead
as normality starts to return
following Covid-19.

confirmed
for the region

“Planning
an event with
constantly changing Covid-19
levels and guidelines is a challenge
but our community has
never backed away from a challenge.
“A decade ago, we designed
the Hororata Highland Games
to help our community recover
following the Canterbury
earthquakes. Now 10 years on,
the games will once again be a
shining light as we overcome the
trials of Covid-19.”
The announcement follows
the confirmation of other major
events for the district.
Selwyn Sounds will return to
the Lincoln Domain on March
6 next year and the Selwyn
Spring Show will take place on
October 17 at the Ellesmere
Showgrounds.
Ms Driscoll said the support
of their suppliers and sponsors is
what gave them the confidence
to move ahead with the games.
“There is a real feeling from
every aspect of ‘we will do what
it takes’ to make the games a
success.”
The Hororata Highland
Games attracts 10,000 people
each year with about 500
competitors in Scottish events
including the caber tossing,
highland dancing and pipe band
competitions.

for Hororata but all of Canterbury.

New Zealand to the Hororata
Highland Games and we
can’t wait to celebrate its 10th
birthday.”

ANNUAL PLAN ADOPTED
District councillors have unanimously
agreed to sign off on the
2020/21 Annual Plan, giving the
go-ahead for $156 million in projects.
The district council adopted
the plan with no changes to the
draft at a meeting last Wednesday.
Major projects planned for the
coming financial year include
the $14.8 million Selwyn Health
Hub and Springs/Marshs Rds and
Shands/Blakes Rds intersection
upgrades.
NEW DARFIELD DOG PARK
Darfield will soon be the home
of a new dog park. The offleash
exercise area will open at
McHughs Forest Park later this
month. The park will include a
fenced area at the southern end
of the forest. A district council
spokesman said the dog park or
off-leash exercise area received
strong support during a public
consultation day about future
developments at the park.
CRAFT AND CHAT GROUP
In the community events section
last week, it read a craft and chat
group would meet at the Lincoln
Library on Monday. This was
incorrect, the group runs every
Thursday from 10am to noon.
