This month, I'll show you how to tie dye with naturaldye you've probably already got in your kitchen cupboard.TURMERICKnown for giving curries a rich golden colour,turmeric has incredible dyeing properties. You'll need3 tbsp of the stuff so go for the big packet you willfind in the world foods section of your local shop.T-SHIRTNew or old, make sure it's had a good wash to removeany dirt or starch from the fabric. This will ensure thedye adhere better. Once you have had a go tye dyeing,you could be more adventurous and try dyeingunderwear sets, pillowcases and other garments.Once you get more confident with tiedye, you can try other items ofclothings such as tracksuits, or bedlinenand pillowcases or blankets. Make surethe materials are natural, the won't takeas well to synthetic materials.30____2 1 Soak the t-shirt in cold water for 30 minutes.3__4__5__6__METHODBoil 1 litre of water in a kettle and add it to a pan with 1 tbsp ofturmeric. Let it cook on medium heat for 30 minutes.Time to tie up your t-shirt. You can use elastic bands or stringfor this. Decide which design you want. You can look updifferent tying techniques online. An easy one is to twist andscrunch in several places. This is what makes a sunburst effect!Let it soak for 8-10 hours. The colour will intensify the longeryou leave it. But if you take it out too early, you'll find the colourfades quickly as it dries. If you want a lighter look, leave for ashorter time.Rinse in cold water and ring out. Soak in 1 tbsp bicarb for 10minutes to help the colour set. Rinse thoroughly.Leave to dry. I would recommend only washing on lowtemperature in case the colour runs onto light fabrics.
