TRAVEL

DREAM DESTINATION

UZÈS, Gard

Sunny Mediterranean climate, beautiful

medieval towns and earthy natural wines

without the pricetag or pretence of Provençe

STAY LA PIERRE VERTE

is the most beautiful oasis

nestled in the middle of the

Garrigue (Mediterranean

forest). Run by a charming

English couple whose family

has owned the land for 3

generations, there are several

yurts with outdoor kitchens

and a Mazet. The pool, yoga

deck and communal dining

are the hub of the retreat

here and with the town only

10 minutes drive away, the

markets and restaurants are

yours for the picking.

EAT For a special meal, look

no further than La Table d'

Uzès. Ask for a table on the

terrace. On the main square,

it's Le Ten. For coffee,

pastries and healthy lunch,

visit Aust Café. Just off the

main market square, escape

the hustle and bustle and

grab yourself a table and

wait for the friendly sister

duo to take your order. Just

outside Uzès in Montaren is

La Table 2 Julien which is

highly recommended.

Booking advised.

In Nîmes, Le Carré d'Art

has an affordable lunch

menu and is set in a

beautiful house.

DO There are so many

things to do in the area and

a visit to the tourist office

will give you lots of ideas.

Pont du Gard is a must as

are walks in the local

vineyards stopping at

independent wine cellars -

Malaïgue, Les Collines de

Bourdic, Les Lys are

favourites. River swimming

spots in Collias, La Baume

in Sanilhac will help you

cool down and enjoy the

beautiful scenery of the

Gard. Further afield, you

can horseride in the

Camargue and visit

Marseille and it's beautiful

Calanques. But if you're

staying in Ed and Ella's

yurts, likelihood is the pool

and a market trip to Uzès

will be just enough to make

your holiday in Southern

France unforgettable. You

might just decide you want

to move out there! We did...

Fly to Nîmes or Avignon and rent a Fiat 500 Convertable
