Rescue<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Year<br />
On January 23 this year, 14-year-old Vinnie Beecr<strong>of</strong>t fell from a cliff at<br />
St Clair prompting a rescue that then turned into a four day search<br />
involving 40 surf lifesaving volunteers and more than 500 hours in a<br />
multi-agency operation that included Police, the National Police Dive<br />
squad, Land SAR, Cliff rescue, helicopters and the helicopter water<br />
rescue team. The search was dangerous as it covered 5km <strong>of</strong> rocky<br />
coastline with the divers searching through blowholes, kelp and<br />
caves, requiring the IRB and swimmers having to negotiate<br />
the rocky shoreline in a 1.5m swell.
