BLUE OCEAN

DERMATOLOGY

Every aspect of Blue Ocean

Dermatology is designed with the

patient in mind. From the soothing

ocean-themed office décor to the respect

and concern the Blue Ocean

Dermatology team offers, the focus

is on the patient.

Maintaining three Central Florida

locations, Blue Ocean Dermatology

has been in business for more than

seven years, with the Winter Park

location opening in 2016. Its staff

includes two board-certified dermatologists,

two board-certified

dermatopathologists, two boardcertified

plastic surgeons, and five

board-certified nurse practitioners.

The practice offers general, surgical

and pediatric dermatology services.

These include treatments for skin

cancer, atopic dermatitis, acne, psoriasis,

pigmentation disorders and

excessive sweating. Blue Ocean also

offers cosmetic treatments, including

Infini radiofrequency microneedling

and laser treatments with the

Aerolase laser.

The Aerolase is a unique, gentle

medical aesthetic laser that can

achieve unrivaled results for skin rejuvenation

and anti-aging. It works

effectively on all skin types while minimizing

the chance of discomfort or

burning. It is effective for acne, hyperpigmentation,

fine lines, facial hair removal,

rosacea and spider veins.

Infini radiofrequency microneedling

involves using very tiny needles

to induce collagen production for

smoother, more refined skin. With

an Infini handpiece, Blue Ocean

Dermatology’s experts deliver radiofrequency

energy in predetermined

Offering Patient-Focused Care

amounts through almost-microscopic-sized

needles to treat a variety of

skin conditions, with minimal to no

discomfort to the patient.

Blue Ocean also has the latest

advancement in the treatment of

hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating.

MiraDry is a nonsurgical,

FDA-cleared treatment that uses electromagnetic

energy to painlessly reduce

the number of underarm sweat

and odor glands. The advanced miraDry

system offers an 80% cure rate

for excessive sweating and odor of

the underarms.

The greatest focus of Blue Ocean

Dermatology is the prevention and

treatment of skin cancer. Basal cell

carcinoma is a common, locally invasive,

nonmelanoma skin cancer.

While basal cell carcinoma is slowgrowing

in many cases, it can cause

disfigurement if treatment is delayed.

PROMOTIONAL FEATURE

tonyrappa@capturevideo-photo.com

Each year in the U.S., about

700,000 cases of squamous cell carcinoma

are diagnosed. This skin cancer

tends to develop on skin that has

been exposed to the sun for years,

such as the head, neck and backs

of the hands. While squamous cell

carcinoma can spread to other parts

of the body, it is highly curable with

early diagnosis and treatment.

Melanoma is the most serious type

of skin cancer. Allowed to grow, melanoma

can spread quickly to other

parts of the body. This can be deadly.

However, when found early, melanoma

is highly treatable. It’s one of

the most common cancers in young

adults, especially young women.

Communication is key when choosing

treatment options.

“We strive to make sure we have

addressed all of our patients’ concerns,

so they know what’s going

on,” said Nitra Welch, a boardcertified

nurse practitioner with Blue

Ocean Dermatology. “Education is

important. We give patients their

options, so they can make educated

choices.”

An option used by Blue Ocean

to treat skin cancer, Mohs surgery

offers a unique benefit: During surgery,

the surgeon can see where

the cancer stops. The ability to see

where the cancer stops gives Mohs a

high cure rate and allows the patient

to keep as much healthy skin as possible,

since the surgeon only removes

the skin with cancer cells.

Another treatment performed

by Blue Ocean is photodynamic

therapy, a two-stage treatment that

combines light energy with a photosensitizer

drug that is designed

to destroy cancerous and precancerous

cells after light activation.

Photosensitizers are activated by a

specific wavelength of light energy

from a laser. After light activation,

the photosensitizer becomes toxic to

the targeted tissue and eliminates it.

Blue Ocean’s most valuable service

is the individual care and attention

the staff provides to every

patient.

“We provide quality care with a

personal touch,” Welch said. “We

treat our patients like they are a part

of our family.”

Blue Ocean Dermatology’s Winter Park practice is located

at 1840 Greenwich Ave., the Port Orange practice

is located at 3951 S. Nova Road, and the Okeechobee

practice is located at 1004 N. Parrot Ave. For more information,

tower features dedicated floors for cardiac, neuro, rehab and ICU, with specialized

procedure rooms and significantly larger patient rooms that more

easily accommodate the multidisciplinary teams and necessary equipment required

to offer patients the highest level of care. The tower was designed from

the patient and family perspective, and it features dedicated quiet spaces,

including family retreat areas, physician/family consult areas, and comfortable

waiting areas — all helping to ease the anxiety many experience when
