remain the obstacle in the
development of these
cars in India. The metals
used in the manufacture
of lithium-ion batteries
will have to be imported
on a large scale to India.
The metals used in the
manufacture of these
batteries, such as lithium,
cobalt, manganese and
nickel, are stored in many
different countries.
Bolivia and Chile account
for 60 per cent of the
world's reserves, while 60
per cent of the cobalt
reserves are in the Congo.
All of these metals do
some important work in
lithium-ion batteries,
such as lithium charging
the battery, while cobalt
protects the battery from
overheating. Lithium-ion
battery prices are heavily
affected due to the low
availability of these
minerals.
