Sure, some people make spontaneous purchases.<br />

We buy lots of things with very little advance<br />

planning. Small items or gifts, snack<br />

food, for instance. Sometimes the right price<br />

can trigger a perceived need – move it from the<br />

subconscious to the conscious. Windfalls, like<br />

tax rebates and a jackpot in Las Vegas, can<br />

trigger spontaneous spending. The rich spend<br />

less time considering purchases than those<br />

people of moderate means. But most people<br />

respond to “perceived needs” by planning purchases;<br />

they know if they wait long enough,<br />

most things go on sale.<br />
