TRAILERS AND Toyotas are
the latest targets for thieves in
the district.
Senior Sergeant Dean Harker
said about 10 trailers have been
stolen over the last few weeks.
They have been taken from
West Melton, Darfield, Rolleston,
Lincoln
and Prebbleton.
“Some have
had the chain
locks cut off
and taken.
Trailers have
been taken
from up people’s
driveways
and also from commercial yards
and from farmers’ paddocks.”
Harker said the offenders are
also stealing Toyota Hiluxes and
Toyota Land Cruisers across
Canterbury. Three were taken
from the district in the last week.
“They were taken from Rolleston
and Prebbleton. These have
been taken from the roadside
and up people’s driveways.
“I would suggest that people
with these makes of vehicles
look at other security measures
other than just locking their
vehicle.”
Harker said he thinks the Hiluxes
are being taken as they are
worth a lot of money, even old
ones, and the parts can be easily
changed around.
In January last year Selwyn
Times reported there had been
an increase in the theft of Toyota
Hiluxes in the district.
At the time, police in Rolleston
said the theft of Hiluxes had
been a constant issue.

now are taken during the hours
of darkness.
“I would suggest that people
with these makes of vehicles
look at other security measures
other than just locking their
vehicle.
“If you park up a driveway
make sure you box the vehicle
in, and if it’s on the roadside
look at a form of steering lock,’’
Harker said.

see or hear anything.
“If you see any suspicious
vehicles in your neighbourhood
note down the vehicle and occupant’s
descriptions and also
try and note the registration
number.”

FIRE
Firefighters battled a 70 x 100m
scrub fire in Rolleston on Sunday.
Crews were called to the blaze on
West Melton Rd at about 3pm.
Chief fire officer Cam Kenyson
said it was an out of control burnoff
which they extinguished in
about 30min. He said if anyone
plans a burn-off, they should have
a fire break around the fire. He

DAFFODIL DAY SUCCESS
Six businesses have won the
paint the town yellow initiative
organised by The Cancer Society
Selwyn Centre. The winners for
each township are – Harcourts
Lincoln, Robert Harris Rolleston,
Leeston Pharmacy, Darfield
Bakery, Affinity Beauty and
Body Care West Melton and
Marks Automotive Prebbleton.
The initiative was a part of the
planned events for Daffodil
Day on Friday. The idea was
for businesses and organisations
to decorate their facilities in
yellow.
RUGBY CLUB PATRON DIES
Gavin Barclay, patron of the
Lincoln Rugby Football Club, has
died after a short illness. Barclay,
who had been a long-standing
and much-liked club member
for many decades, died in
Christchurch Hospital.
