Community Funding<br />
available<br />
Voting in theMainPower Community Fund will be open Monday<br />
14 <strong>September</strong>.<br />
The$30,000 fund willbedistributedbetweenthe group of finalists<br />
that receivethe most votesfrommembersofthe community.<br />
This is the seventh round of funding thathasbeendirected into<br />
the <strong>North</strong> <strong>Canterbury</strong> communitythough theinitiative.<br />
Fundingfrom past roundshas beenusedin arange of ways.<br />
Community Wellbeing <strong>North</strong><strong>Canterbury</strong>Trust hasusedtheir<br />
funding to support the mental and emotional wellbeing of local<br />
families by providing arange of freesocial and community<br />
services, including family counselling,social workersand the<br />
Kaiapoi communitypantry.<br />
“Wewillcontinue to useany fundingwereceive to respond to<br />
the needsoflocal families.Across Waimakaririand theHurunui<br />
there are familiesseverely impacted by Covid-19and the virus-led<br />
downturn,”says Trust Manager,DeirdreRyan.<br />
Anotherorganisation,the Chris Ruth Centre, hasreceived funding<br />
through the last tworoundsofthe MainPower Community Fund.<br />
CarolineSpollen,the centre’s manager,says“As acharitabletrust<br />
we value andappreciateany extrafunding we receive”.<br />
Thecentre offersoffersaday service forclientsover the age of 21<br />
who have veryhighneedsdisabilities.<br />
Previous funding rounds have helped the Community<br />
Wellbeing <strong>North</strong> <strong>Canterbury</strong>Trust support local families<br />
with a range of free social and community services.<br />
Thecentrehas used theirfunding to create an outdoor space at the<br />
centre for clients, saying it’s“Aperfect place forlunchortojustchill<br />
in the shadeinthe summertime”.<br />
Thecentrehas also been able to addasensoryroom.Carolinesays<br />
“Our Sensory room createsaquietrelaxing spacefor thepeople<br />
that attendour daybase. We wereable to purchase avariety of<br />
tactile and visual itemsincluding alarge bubble columnwhich<br />
changes colors andhas fish that move throughthe water.This<br />
has proved very popular with ourClients,alongwith othertactile<br />
objects people canhold”.<br />
