Selwyn Times Wednesday September 16 2020 14 NEWS No graduation ceremony for Lincoln uni students LINCOLN University graduands who had their ceremony postponed earlier this year due to Covid-19 will now miss out altogether. The university has decided to cancel its graduation planned for October 8. Lincoln University acting vice-chancellor Professor Bruce McKenzie, said it was a decision reached with a heavy heart and after much deliberation. The graduation was initially postponed in April, with all students receiving their parchments through the mail. “Having already postponed the April ceremony we very much wanted to provide our graduates with an event recognising, and celebrating their achievements.” “However, there was just too much uncertainty around what Covid-19 alert level we would be on at the time. There are also currently risks associated with holding such a sizeable event. Rolleston Drive/Dryden Avenue intersection works Works beginning on new intersection and Markham Way extension Work to create a new intersection at Rolleston Drive and Dryden Avenue and to extend Markham Way will begin on Monday 21 September. This work is expected to be completed by February 2021, depending on the weather, or other work restrictions. The new intersection and extension will help with traffic flow and congestion on Rolleston Drive, help with access to the Selwyn Health Hub and new town centre and improve pedestrian safety. Rolleston Drive and Norman Kirk Drive will remain open throughout the upgrade, although there will be short periods where each street needs to be reduced to one lane with a stop/go system in place.
