Amberley show body presses on<br />

The show must go on in Amberley. The<br />
Amberley A&P Association has decided to<br />
proceed with its annual showonSaturday,<br />
<strong>October</strong> 31, under alert level1.<br />
‘‘There’s no stopping us country folk.<br />
Underlevel 1it’s all go. It’sreally exciting,’’<br />
secretaryAmy Broomhall says.<br />
With other <strong>Canterbury</strong> showscancelled<br />
because of Covid19, includingthosein<br />
Rangiora, Selwyn,Ashburton and<br />
Christchurch, Amberley could be in for a<br />
busy day.<br />
‘‘We’ve have areallygood response from<br />
exhibitors. Nooneseems to be deterred.<br />
‘‘We are certainlyexpectingabig crowd as<br />
long as thesun shines on the day and, with<br />
the horse section,thereisqualifying for<br />
Horseofthe Year,sowe have riders coming<br />
from all over the South Island.’’<br />
The show committeewill meet thisweekto<br />
work out some of the details, such as Covid<br />
19 regulations andmanaging the crowd.<br />

can be made via the internet on<br />

Lincoln dairy event set for <strong>October</strong> 15<br />
The Lincoln UniversityDairy Farm is<br />
gearing up for its first onfarm eventfor<br />
farmers sinceFebruary.<br />
It will run its spring focus day on<br />
Thursday,<strong>October</strong> 15, from 10.15am to<br />
1pm, in its first onfarm event since the<br />
lockdown. Covid19 forced the farm’s<br />
managementtogoonline for six months<br />
to keep farmers up to date.<br />
The focus day willbeachance for<br />
farmers to get an update on the <strong>2020</strong>/21<br />
seasonsofar, progress on the farm’s<br />
matingand calving programmes,and get<br />
tips on springfeeding, keeping cows at<br />
peak milk production, and pasture<br />
monitoring and feedbudgeting tools.<br />
The new cap of 190kg of nitrogen per<br />
hectare willalso be covered.<br />
Participants willdiscuss what it means<br />
for the dairy industry, and tipsonhow to<br />
interpret and comply with the rules.<br />
Should the regionreturn to alert level2,<br />
the eventwill be limited to the first 100<br />
RSVPs and willbestreamedonline.<br />
