How many times
these past seven
months have we
been disappointed,
blaming COVID for
the cancellation or
postponement of a
club event or outing?
Well Saturday,
October 3, a date to
remember, was the
day we pulled off the
unthinkable.
Let me set the stage
for you. It started with a crazy idea that we should
try to reach our members in some far reaching DFW
communities. With a little research we picked Wichita
Falls as one of those areas. It became our first in this
new experiment called “Mavs Mittagessen!”
Doug Jacobson took on the task with the help of
Tom Spitzer from WF to make this meet up happen. It
wasn’t easy – as a matter of fact, due to COVID, it took
us three tries to get it on the calendar.
So the guys persisted and we picked the first Saturday
in October. What a perfect day we picked.
The day started out sunny and a cool 59 degrees
as we did our pre-meet up in Denton where 18 cars
showed up to make the 90-minute drive. We took off
at 8:20 am with a parade of cars headed north. Ninety
minutes later we arrived at Duck Coffee to be greeted
by 12 local cars. We believe that is most likely a Wichita
Falls record of Porsches in a single location.
With some 40 members meeting together for the first time
the fun began with - what else – COFFEE, and hanging out
with our CARS. After about an hour we walked about two
blocks to Highlander Public House with a patio waiting for
us with some of the best food imaginable.
After a great lunch and even better conversation,
we headed back over to our cars to say our goodbyes,
and long goodbyes they were. We made sure to give
our new friends lots of Porsche goodies including car
decals, a Maverick glass, and our infamous matchbox
Porsches for our littlest Mavs.
Something tells me Wichita Falls just got a whole
lot closer.
