Natal constitui a época mais importante do
0 ano, rosto de costumes e tradições que muito
honram o folclore e a herança do seu povo.
Tudo gira à volta da “Festa”, e o mês de Dezembro,
o mais esperado por todos. As tradições cristãs da
época do Natal e do Fim do Ano na Madeira estão
muito enraizadas nos hábitos do povo madeirense.
Durante todo o mês de dezembro e até ao dia de Reis,
a 6 de Janeiro, vive-se intensamente esta quadra. As
iluminações decorativas marcam o arranque das festas
de Natal e do Fim do Ano. No Funchal, e em muitas
outras localidades da ilha, a cidade é abrilhantada com
milhares de luzes e decorações de rua, uma visão única
da alegria geral que se sente nas ruas. Por esta altura,
as casas são limpas com apuro, alindadas e decoradas
com as tradicionais “lapinhas” (presépios) e árvores de
Natal . Confecionam-se as iguarias típicas desta época
festiva, como as broas e o bolo de mel, os licores e a
carne de vinho e alhos, compram-se flores e frutos da
época. Destes odores caraterísticos nasce a expressão:

A capital, Funchal, converte-se ela própria num
presépio de proporções reais, dadas as características
naturais do seu anfiteatro, do qual emergem
ornamentações florais e luzes multicolores.
A anteceder o Natal, as “Missas do Parto”, que
se iniciam a 16 de Dezembro, atraem os fiéis. As
festividades continuam culminando no dia 31, com um
glamouroso espetáculo de fogo-de-artifício. Estes
constituem excelentes motivos para viver a “Festa”
na Madeira. Venha daí e viva esta quadra inolvidável

c a time to celebrate customs and traditions in a
tribute to folklore and legacy of the inhabitants.
Everything revolves around the “Festa” (the Festivity), and
arrival of the month of December is most eagerly awaited
by all.
Christmas in Madeira is celebrated with joy, colour
and lots of enthusiasm. The Christian traditions,
during Christmas and New Year season are genuinely
associated with the customs of the locals. Throughout
the month of December until the Three Kings day, held
on January 6th, this festive season is lived with a special
feeling, combining religious ceremonies with the joy for
the arrival of a new year.
The placing of the decorative illuminations indicates
the beginning of the Christmas and End of Year
festivities. Funchal, as well as in many other villages
around the island, are filled with thousands of lights
and street decorations, in a unique vision of the
overall joyfulness that is felt in the streets. By this
time houses are meticulously arranged and lovely
decorated with the traditional “lapinhas” (cribs),
in addition to the making of a Christmas tree. The
typical delicacies of this festive season begin to be
prepared, for instance the “broas” (honey biscuits) and
“bolo de mel” (honey cake), liqueurs and the “carne de
vinho e alhos” (pork in wine and garlic), and flowers
and seasonal fruits are bought. A unique sweetscented
experience that is commonly designated
