Day Bros Painters and Plasterers has been<br />
serving the <strong>North</strong> <strong>Canterbury</strong>community for<br />
more than 30 years.<br />
The family business was established by<br />
brothers Graham and Kevin Day back in the<br />
1980s, with Graham’s son Brett joining the<br />
business as ateenager.<br />
Company directors Brett and Jemma took<br />
over in 2005 and now employ nine loyal staff,<br />
including two apprentices, who live locally.<br />
“Wehave managed to retain our staff through<br />
Covid-19 and we are thankful to our loyal clients<br />
that we have been able to do that,” Jemma says.<br />
“Wewere able to go back to work at Alert<br />
Level 3and we followed all government<br />
guidelines whilst doing our best to support our<br />
staff through averydifficult time.<br />
“Wetakehealth and safely veryseriously for<br />
our guys and making sure they have the right<br />
qualifications.”<br />
The couple works in closely with general<br />
manager Davitt Joslen, who has been with the<br />
company for two years, and since the lockdown<br />
have added aprofessional plasterer,Sam van<br />
Hulten,tothe team.<br />
“Painting is the last thing that gets done in a<br />
house, but if the plastering hasn’t been done<br />
right it can ruin the finish, so having control<br />
over the plastering helps us with our quality<br />
control,” Brett says.<br />
Day Bros takes on jobs between Christchurch<br />
and Kaikoura and has done anumber of<br />
insurance and earthquake work in recent years<br />
in the northernpart of the region.<br />
“Brett has worked closely with clients and<br />
insurance companies to make sure clients are<br />
getting what they are entitled to,” Jemma says.<br />
This experience has allowed Brett to see a<br />
gap in the market in helping clients to manage<br />
the overall project, whether that is kitchen or<br />
bathroom make-overs, repair or maintenance<br />
work and building work.<br />
“A lot of clients don’t know where to start,<br />
so we can sit down with them and talk them<br />
through it,” Brett says.<br />
“Weoffer the full package and take the hassle<br />
out of aproject and we deal with other tradies<br />
and contractors so we can arrange<br />
for the work to getdone on<br />
time.”<br />

Day Bros takes on both<br />

spraying, water blastering, roof<br />

project if are stuck for ideas and Brett can sit<br />
down and help you with you colour selections,’’<br />
Jemma says.<br />

New Zealand and the team goes out of its way<br />
to ensure they leave awork site clean and tidy.<br />
