Grandparentsreturn to school<br />

Grandparents travelled from<br />
far and wide to attend a<br />
special morning at Kaiapoi<br />
<strong>North</strong> School recently.<br />
Principal Jason Miles said<br />
the school held asuccessful<br />
grandparent’s day with more<br />
than 250 grandparents<br />
attending the annual event.<br />
They visited classrooms,<br />
and attended aspecial<br />
assembly and morning tea.<br />
‘‘We started holding<br />
grandparents day around 15<br />
years ago and it has become<br />
an important annual event<br />
that the children, staff and<br />
grandparents look forward<br />
to,’’ Mr Miles says.<br />
‘‘It is heartwarming to see<br />
grandparents visiting<br />
classrooms and sharing<br />
school stories with our<br />
children of their childhood,<br />
such as warm milk and using<br />
blackboards.<br />
‘‘I even heard one<br />
grandparent talking about<br />
inkwells,’’ he said.<br />
The assembly featured<br />
performances from the<br />
school’s kapa haka group, as<br />
well as pasifika and items<br />
from learning teams.<br />
The morning finished with<br />
ascone and acuppa kindly<br />
provided by the PTA, Mr<br />
Miles said.<br />
