WWhen was the last time you set out on amission to attain a long-sought aftergoal, only to find you were no closer toachieving it that when the idea itselfwas first conceived? Though that waslikely a frustrating experience, it is no legitimateexcuse to avoid setting new goals and charting newpaths to turn your dreams into reality. Since we allcan use a boost getting from the base of ourfigurative mountains, these tips will prove useful inmaintaining firm footing during our C.L.I.M.B. toensure we reach the top.C.onfidence: The first step on your mostimportant journey takes place in your mind; youmust believe in your ability to achieve your goalbefore you can truly start working towards it. Froman early age, we are taught to doubt ourselves, to fearthe unknown and to limit our dreams. Such defeatistthinking functions like quicksand or a tarpit; it is atrap that will slow you down significantly and mayeven bring your trek to a premature end. Avoid it atall costs. Instead feed your mind on a stream ofhealthy, reinforcing thoughts that will guaranteeyour arrival at the destination of success.L.earning: We are born into this world withminds that are blank slates, but during our lives eachday affords a new opportunity for cognitivedevelopment. Just think of it! Anyone can become amental giant if they first have a love of knowledge.Just as skilled athletes will experience muscularatrophy if they refuse to continue to train, our brainsare in danger of melting into useless goop if we fail toexercise them daily. Always remember you are whatyou eat; feed yourself positivity and stay far awayfrom naysayers that discourage you from pursuingknowing more today than you did yesterday.I.nspration: Much like a car needs fuel to run,we must have genuine inspiration to keep striving toreach our goals. Fortunately, it is available in avariety of forms and often appears when you leastexpect it. It is vital that you identify what lights yourfire; many find that nature can be stimulating:golden sunsets and cotton-candy sunrises, majesticwaves crashing into sandcastles as the tide comes in,star clusters that twinkle like diamonds up above orthe fiery crimson and orange-hued dizzying flights offall foliage. Others discover their creativity is sparkedafter meditating on life’s myriad wonders and dwellon past experiences and conversations to generatenew aha moments.M.otivation: Given the inevitable bumps in theroad, not to mention the unprecedented challengeshumanity is facing, staying motivated has becomemore important than ever before. Imagine if a toddlerafter taking his first steps, moodily plopped to thefloor and refused to ever walk any further! While ourfirst steps are to be treasured, it is the final stepsupon arrival that are truly celebratory. Don’t give upand never give in; remain focused on your why.Should you begin to feel the end seems nowhere insight, glance briefly behind you as a reminder of whyyou chose to move forward in the first place, then“just keep swimming!”B.linders: Do not fall prey to the common myththat the road to success is paved with gold. The harshreality is there will be obstacles and challenges galore.Relegate these to their proper place by viewing themfor what they truly are: distractions. No matter whattries to hold you back from attaining your goals andreaching the vey pinnacle of life, you mustprogressively train yourself to ignore negativity. Takea lesson from winning racehorses and keep yourblinders on. Giving a moment’s attention to dreamkillers – even internal monsters such as fear ordoubt – could cause lasting damage or cost you therace. Instead choose higher ground and stay thecourse until your aspirations become manifest.There’s no denying that 2020 has been fraught withnumerous difficulties, but when the going gets tough,the tough get going. Persistence will pay off so neverstop reaching higher and further. Rest assured theclimb is always worth it.
