DISTANCING IN CLASSROOMS • Classrooms - seating is arranged so that students are facing the same direction, • Classroom desks are placed so that 6’ distancing can be maintained. In addition, acrylic partitions will be placed in all desks and tables for increased safety. In those cases where CPS cannot abide to the strict adherence of the 6-feet distance recommended by the CDC, CPS will employ alternate risk mitigating measures (ex. acrylics partitions) as recommended by the American Pediatric Academy. • Seating records are kept to aid in contact tracing in the event this is necessary SHARED SPACES AND ITEMS • Lockers will not be used. Students will have access to needed resources online. Any other belongings will be kept by the student throughout the day. • At PKS – student will continue to access their individual cubbies in the classrooms. • Snacks and Breaks will be staggered and managed so that student mixing is minimized • Hallway Transitions - staircases will be designated as either up or down (except in the case of emergency evacuation), to facilitate distancing. • Students will not share supplies, books, materials, or other resources. Any shared school computers or other classroom devices will be disinfected between classes. Parents should ensure that each student brings the adequate supplies so that no one has to share and reduce possible means of contagion. LIBRARY We will maintain our Library service with the following modifications: • Class groups will be scheduled to visit at specific times. • Protocols will be established for cleaning returned books before going back into circulation. • The furniture will be reconfigured, with and capacity limits and distancing protocols enforced, to allow students to continue to use this space for study/research safely. Acrylic partitions will be placed in each table for additional safety. CAFETERIA Parkville Campus - Our cafeteria employees have been certified in reopening post-COVID-19 and provided the company’s certified COVID-19 safety protocol. The employee will have their temperature taken and follow CPS protocol. Each one will have their mask, gloves and face shields. We will change cafeteria services on campus to accommodate physical distancing, staggered breaks, and hygiene protocols by: • Providing limited meal choices that can be pre-ordered, pre-paid and pre-trayed to minimize queueing and handling of cash. • Prohibiting all outside food deliveries apart from food brought from home by the student in the morning. 16
• Having students in grades PK-3 eat in their classrooms. • Setting up desks/chairs in cafeteria to ensure physical distancing. Acrylic partitions will be installed in the desks for added protection. • Additional handwashing stations will be installed in the cafeteria for washing hands at mealtime and throughout the day. Commonwealth Campus - Our cafeteria employees have been certified in reopening post- COVID-19 and provided the company’s certified COVID-19 safety protocol. The employee will have their temperature taken and follow CPS protocol. Each one will have their mask, gloves and face shields. RECESS AND PLAYGROUNDS: Parkville Campus Our playground use will be adapted as follows: • Class cohorts will be divided into small “play bubbles” of 3-4 students. • Only one “play bubble” per apparatus at any time. • Additional handwashing before and after breaks will be implemented. • Playgrounds will be disinfected at the end of each day. • Playground equipment and zones will be delineated to separate activities. • Play breaks will be staggered to reduce the numbers at any one time. PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS We will enhance the safety of our physical education program by: • Revising PE lessons to include only activities that can be carried out with proper distancing (e.g. cardio activities, personal fitness, etc.) • Implementing protocols for use and cleaning of sports equipment • Continuing skills training, where possible and appropriate, for sports teams AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM: PARKVILLE & COMMONWEALTH A limited After School Program may be offered as follows: • Study and Homework sessions may take place in assigned, supervised areas after school. 17
