CPS ROADMAP TO REOPENING
INTRODUCTION
The COVID-19 pandemic presents the most
serious public health crisis the world has
experienced in generations. Looking forward to
the 2020-21 school year and beyond, CPS is
committed to do everything it can to reopen our
campuses because we believe doing so is in the
best interest of our students. And yet we
recognize that CPS needs to find a pathway for
reopening its campuses safely with the health
and wellbeing of our entire community in mind.
Our CPS Roadmap to Reopening is guided by the
assumption that a vaccine will not be available for
at least 6 months, which means CPS needs to be
able to respond quickly to circumstances
in our own school community as well as to
conditions in Puerto Rico. Even as we plan to
reopen our campuses in August, we know that
circumstances beyond our control may
necessitate closing them again with very little
warning. This means CPS must be prepared to
shift between our three learning models.
In order to ensure as safe a start to our school year as possible, we are postponing the start of
school by one week - to August 18. This will provide sufficient time to receive and install our
safety supplies, prepare our classrooms and campuses, provide additional training to faculty, and
orient students and parents to both the new safety protocols and our academic programs.
