ACADEMIC CONTINUITY LEARNING GROUP MODELS FACE-TO-FACE Grades PK, K, 1, and 2 and all Horizons classrooms These are students who may learn on campus on all days. These classrooms are designed so that either the class population is small enough to provide adequate distancing, and/or acrylic dividers have been installed to provide protection for students and teachers. • Masks will be worn at all times. • For each classroom in grades PK-2 students will learn, play and eat with their individual classroom groups, but maintaining proper physical distancing. • Snack and Lunch will be eaten in the classroom. Meals will be delivered to classrooms. • The furniture will be arranged to increase physical distancing. • Acrylic partitions will be placed for protection of students. • We will have revised break protocols to reduce the number of students in common areas. • There will be limited, controlled movement to other learning spaces for specialist activities. • The use of learning resources and materials will be managed to minimize sharing. • Any shared toys and learning materials will be cleaned after each use. • Students will be permitted to play games that comply with physical distancing. • Teachers will make thoughtful choices to engage learners in collaborative work without compromising distancing guidelines. • Teachers will encourage students to stay home if feeling sick and will monitor absenteeism as well. • Each student must have wipes, tissue paper and hand sanitizer in their assigned desk/table. • Each teacher and student must clean their work area between classes upon exiting the classroom. 4
The campus is open, but distancing guidelines require us to reduce student density on campus. Students are divided into two cohorts, with one group attending classes on campus and the other off campus on alternating days. Students who are not on campus will continue learning via synchronous and asynchronous activities on/off campus groupings are changed at set times in the calendar, with advanced notice to parents. HYBRID ALTERNATING COMETS Grades 3-12 • These student groups will attend classes on alternating days, learning on campus one day, and from home on the next day. • Students at home will learn through a combination of synchronous participation (via Zoom) and asynchronous activities (via SeeSaw, SIS, and Teams). • Students will follow their regular schedule, with some modifications to accommodate changes in non-core academic classes, electives, cafeteria protocols, etc. • Students grades PK-6 – Students stay in their classrooms and will rotate only for specials. The only other time students will rotate is when 5th-6th graders go to the Science Lab, following an internal rotation schedule prepared for them. • Additional precautions will be added regarding cleaning when students move to specialized learning spaces. • All classrooms will be equipped with Zoom-capable video equipment, so that students may participate in live class sessions from home when needed. • Students will be assigned to East and West groups at the start of the school year. To accommodate parent transportation planning, siblings will be placed in the same group unless otherwise requested. These groups may be changed approximately every 6-8 weeks. • Masks will be worn at all times. • The furniture will be arranged to ensure physical distancing. • We will have revised snack/break protocols to reduce number of students in any common areas or cafeteria. 5
