The world of the R+T is
becoming more digitalised
VÖGELE: With the announcement of the postponement of the R+T 2021 at the end of July last
year, a concept was immediately proposed to present the innovations and new products developed
to a worldwide trade audience on a digital platform, the R+T digital. Do you see parallels
to digital trade fairs that have taken place so far, such as glasstec or BAU?
MUND: Parallels can be drawn – but my assessments are quite different: The previous digital versions
of established offline fairs were primarily characterised by one principle: “We are a sticking plaster until
the next time we can meet again at a trade fair!” But I don’t have that impression with the R+T Digital:
The Stuttgart Exhibition Centre’s approach comes very close to a real digital marketplace. You actually
get a feel for a trade fair event at your desk. And the industry is rewarding us with a high level of
participation – after all, more than 300 exhibitors are expected in the virtual exhibition halls. Do you
think that users can find their way around the R+T digital?
VÖGELE : I think so, or rather I am convinced they can. The R+T digital project was conceived
and developed from the visitor’s point of view from the very beginning. The old saying “bait must
attract the fish, not the fisherman” applies here. This applies right from the design of the R+T
digital homepage: The content is short and crisp and easy to navigate. This will continue on the
trade fair platform. With the concept of exhibition, presentations, innovations and live events,
there will be interesting content for everyone.
MUND: The trade fair emphasises that the Innovation Award is more important than ever for the R+T.
When will the industry find out what particularly impressed the jury this year? As a jury member, can
you give us a glimpse through the keyhole?
VÖGELE: The companies nominated for the Innovation Award have been listed on the R+T
digital homepage for some time. Corresponding press releases or advertisements in this issue
point out the nominated products in more detail, as the case may be. We have highlighted articles
of nominated companies with the logo of the Innovation Award. That’s all I’m allowed to say.
In any case, all visitors to the R+T can experience the award ceremony digitally this year. What
is particularly interesting for you?
MUND: What is particularly interesting for me is the high level of thematic participation from other
sectors that have an interface with the sun protection industry. Obviously, some companies have
been drawn in by a certain marketplace vacuum so they can address their potential customers and
report about their new products. Providing information has always been a central element of specialised
media in times of a pandemic and, of course, beyond. In this respect, we wish you a relaxed visit
to the fair from the comfort of your sofa – the perfect reading material for the complete spectrum of
sun protection is already at your disposal. Stay healthy and cheerful!
SERVICE
SONNENSCHUTZWELT INTERVIEW
IN AN INTERVIEW WITH STUTTGART EXHIBITION CENTRE
Connecting real and digital
worlds in a meaningful way
The industry’s response to R+T digital is very positive in the first interim
result with over 300 exhibitors. During the live period of the new
industry platform from 22 to 25 February 2021, visitors will be offered
an extensive supporting programme. On each live day, visitors can
watch interesting live lectures on the topics of hospitality, innovations,
trades and architecture and ask questions interactively via chat. Anyone
who has missed a presentation can still access it afterwards as an ondemand
video. Our editorial team spoke to the makers of R+T digital.
GLASWELT – Mr Bleinroth, where do you see
yourself as Stuttgart Exhibition Centre in the field
of tension between digital trade fairs and their
competitors such as BAU or Fensterbau Frontale?
Roland Bleinroth – At this point in time, we see
digital trade fairs as a necessary solution to stay
in touch with our community and to offer attractive
content online via topics such as the Innovation
Award, match-making, live lectures and virtual
exhibitions. It is not enough just to organise
the above-mentioned points individually. Visitors
must also be able to find information that they
were not looking for. That is the challenge.
GLASWELT – Do you see R+T digital as a bridge
to R+T 2022 in Stuttgart?
Bleinroth – That would be too short-sighted,
and is not our intention. Now it’s first of all a matter
of picking up our customers with R+T digital. The
question that then arises is, where do we go from
here? The world, and with it the trade fair world,
will change as a result of the pandemic. Our differentiator
will be to extend the reach of the upcoming
R+T 2022 in Stuttgart through digital components.
We want to learn from the digital event in
order to be able to offer our visitors tailor-made
content as a trade fair in the future, completely regardless
of whether it is real or digital.
Schmid – A very interesting point is that exhibitors
have registered for R+T digital who have never
been to R+T before. This shows us that our offer
is coherent. This will certainly have a similar effect
on visitors. Here, too, we will reach employees of
manufacturers and specialist companies (clerks,
craftsmen, trainees) who have not had the opportunity
to visit R+T so far. Of course, a digital
platform will not be able to replace a real trade
fair, because multisensuality is a key factor that
only the real world offers in unison.
Bleinroth – In the future, digital supplements to
real trade fairs will become increasingly important.
It thus becomes relatively easy for a company
with a manageable amount of effort to get a
taste, for instance, of the world of R+T and, if successful,
to exhibit at the real R+T in the future. But
even with limited travel options, the digital version
will be a useful addition for exhibitors and visitors
in the future.
GLASWELT – Mr Schmid, over 300 exhibitors
sounds very positive. Are you satisfied?
Sebastian Schmid – I am very impressed by
the great response from the industry. With regard
to R+T digital, it was particularly important
for us to be able to meet the expectations regarding
internationality and product diversity of
a R+T. We are all the more pleased that we can
keep this promise to our visitors. Exhibitors from
over 30 countries are taking part. 37 % come from
national exhibitors, over 63 % result from international
participation. Besides Germany, the top
exhibiting countries are Italy, China, Spain and
Turkey. But there are also some exhibitors from
France, Poland, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria,
the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and South
Korea, among others. From that point of view, I
am very satisfied.
GLASWELT – Will there be a “big” R+T Alliance
industry platform in the future?
Bleinroth – That would undoubtedly be an
advantage that the digital world offers. Creating
multilingualism here is relatively simple. Of
course, we are also planning in this direction to
connect the entire R+T network in a meaningful
way.
GLASWELT – Thank you for the interview, and
good luck with R+T digital.
The interview was conducted by GLASWELT
editor Olaf Vögele. —
Roland Bleinroth, Managing Director and Spokesman for the Board of Management, and Sebastian Schmid,
Head of the Technology Trade Fairs Department, were on hand to answer questions about the digital activities of
BIERMANN LEAVES, ESTÈVE TAKES OVER
Alulux sets the course
for the future
Alulux has many exciting topics
on its agenda for the next 3
years, focusing on service, products
and digitalisation. At the beginning
of 2021, Alulux will set a
new course and restructure itself.
This demonstrates the company’s
commitment to implement
its plans and achieve its targets.
Gregor Biermann, authorised signatory,
General Sales Director
and Head of Marketing, is leaving
the Alulux company after
Astride Estève takes over as
Head of Sales and Marketing
worldwide.
30 years. He will be replaced by Astride Estève, who completes
the management ranks as a second managing director alongside
Managing Director Colin Reoch.
She has extensive experience as CEO in both Europe and the Middle
East for Legrand, where she was most recently responsible for
sales in excess of 150 million euros. She will take over responsibility
for sales and marketing in Germany, France and the rest of the
world with immediate effect. Alulux is delighted about the reinforcement
of its team by Astride Estève and has its sights firmly
fixed on the future.
IN DIALOGUE WITH THE INDUSTRY
Folgner at R+T digital
As all Folgner events, including the Folgner Technology Day,
had to be cancelled last year, we are delighted that we can
now present the family business as a full-range supplier of
window products to customers via the newly created digital
platform of Messe Stuttgart. The focus will be on the innovations
in Forsa external Venetian blinds, roller shutters
and ZipScreens.
An absolute highlight is the new PreMo K compact system
- the optimum product solution for installation in extremely
confined spaces. Another highlight is the Speed Motor,
Sebastian Folgner
looks forward to R+T
digital: “Here, we can
present ourselves and
our products despite
the ongoing contact
restrictions.”
which opens the external Venetian blinds twice as fast as conventional standard solutions.
Especially with high patio doors, this is an invaluable advantage that offers great
convenience. Folgner roller shutters feature a new glass fall protection system - integrated
in the roller shutter front element - which takes into account the large floor-toceiling
window fronts. Another innovative detail is the new design closing strip, which
closes the gap between the curtain and the box cover when the roller shutter curtain
is retracted, thus achieving a significantly better appearance. In the case of the Zip
Screen, too, it is the many small, detailed innovations that demonstrate Folgner’s extensive
know-how, which offers customers a wealth of advantages and individual solutions.
At the digital trade fair stand, in addition to the presentation of the product innovations,
visitors will also gain an insight into the complete range. Furthermore, they will
have the opportunity to get to know Folgner as a family business and contact the company
via chat or video. In addition to the sales department, Bernd Folgner and Sebastian
Folgner will also be available as representatives of the management.
New tasks and a stronger focus on strategically important sales areas: At the
turn of the year 2020/2021, Warema Renkhoff SE is strengthening its management
team with skilled experts from its own ranks. The ability to respond
quickly to market changes and current trends has a high priority at Warema.
In order to meet these requirements and the resulting customer wishes even
better, some personnel changes took effect as of 01 January 2021. All employees
have many years of experience at Warema and proven expertise in their
new area of responsibility. As a new member of the Executive Board, Mr. Andreas
Lindau will assume responsibility for National Sales. An industrial engineer,
he joined the group as a sales trainee in 2008 and has since been responsible
for various sales areas, including managing the customer centre in Marktheidenfeld
and Limbach-Oberfrohna. Most recently, Andreas Lindau successfully
led the South-West region in his function as Sales Manager. Mr. Lindau
succeeds Stephan Kliegl, who is taking over the management of the strategically
important and growing Outdoor Living segment after seven years as Head
of National Sales. Mr. Kliegl is an acknowledged expert on the market and the
subject matter and brings more than 20 years of professional experience in the
solar protection industry to his new area of responsibility. His activities will focus
on the strategic further development of the Outdoor Living segment and
thus on providing powerful support for our customers and partners. Furthermore,
Mr. Christian Richartz will take over the management of International
Sales. He has already held several responsible positions at Warema, for example
as Deputy Managing Director of National Sales and most recently as Head
EXPERIENCE SELVE INNOVATIONS AT “R+T DIGITAL”
Close up & live
There is no question that this fair will be completely
different from the usual. But this constant
remains: At “R+T digital”, Selve will also be
delivering plenty of innovations that stand out
and move many (things). The Lüdenscheid-based
company comes up with a full package of product
highlights. The range extends from the patented
MAN Rescue emergency operating system
and powerful escape route solutions to the
intelligent Selve Home home control system, into
which IP cameras can also be integrated. The
brand new commeo Multi Send will be presented
for the first time, providing even more functional
diversity. This and much more will be shown at
the virtual booth. There is also plenty of information
in sound and vision at daily live events, including
chat
A lot has been developed for R+T, not only in
terms of new products. “A lot of work has gone
into our virtual trade fair presence,” says Marketing
Manager Alexander Vogt. “Our goal is to get
everything possible out of this format and to
reach as many trade customers as possible.” Different
contents and product trump cards are played
to address them. Because: “Even in times of a pandemic,
we are fully behind the leading trade fair
in Stuttgart and have initiated many things for it,”
Alexander Vogt emphasises. From 22 to 25 February,
we will confidently fly our flag on the globally
accessible (trade fair) platform. “Here, too,
we prove that we are very close with our modern
product solutions – to the market and to customer
demands,” says Vogt.
FUTURE-ORIENTED EDP ORGANISATION AT ODV
Active interface determination
The maxim of the software specialist ODV from Stuttgart is “We supply software for
the skilled trades”. With the modular tradesmen’s software, ODV supports the optimisation
of business processes pertaining to Managing Director Ralph Biegelmaier.
A future-oriented structure of the organisation should save time and costs, and
above all offer process reliability. The daily work from the quotation to the preparation
of measurements and invoicing is no longer a challenge, mobile functions facilitate
communication at the construction site and offer good approaches to a paperless
office.
“The special challenge here lies in the interface to the upstream supplier of our
tradesman customers,” explains Biegelmaier, “and here every manufacturer has
his own solution, which can also change quickly.” ODV relies on a simple interface
solution here. “We don’t think that integrating the complex software solutions
/ configurators into our software is the right solution. Each manufacturer has
his own specialists for his products and their configuration options. They check
and maintain product data with great effort in order to make it available to the
tradesman for use in their configurator. We do not think it makes sense to keep this
expertise across manufacturers in order to maintain this data redundantly in our
system. Furthermore, the effort of ongoing data
maintenance would also be far too costly for the
tradesman,” he adds.
The Stuttgart-based company therefore relies on
a clear interface definition in which only relevant
data is transferred to the tradesman’s ERP system.
In this way, the familiar software of the respective
manufacturer with all its advantages is to be
used optimally. In addition, changes in the manufacturer’s
programmes will then no longer result
The special challenge lies in
the interface to the upstream
supplier of our tradesmen
customers, explains Ralph
Biegelmaier.
in updates in one’s own system. “Everyone does
what they do best” is the simplest way to describe
it according to Biegelmaier’s definition of working
in a truly customer-oriented way.
and sun protection sector, offers building element manufacturers
and their trading partners a quickly implementable solution for calculation,
quotation and ordering with MyPricer. The focus is on selling: a
simple and reliable calculation, time savings in the quotation process
as well as a consistent presentation of product benefits are some of
the advantages for manufacturers and their trading partners.
Quotation generation and order transmission take place with just a
SOLAR PROTECTION NEWS
MARKILUX WITH TURNOVER INCREASE OF 25 MILLION EUROS
A challenging year
In 2020, Coronavirus turned the world upside down. From one moment to the
next, companies were forced to completely reorganise their work processes.
Markilux was no exception. The awning manufacturer transformed its production,
introduced mobile, digital working for its employees and mobilised end
customers via a “social distancing campaign”. Though markilux says this was a
tour de force, at the end of the year the company reported an increase in turnover
of 25 million Euros compared to the previous year, thus achieving a turnover
of around 122 million euros.
“Initially, securing the flow of goods when supply chains were interrupted was
a major challenge for Purchasing and Scheduling. In spring 2020, within just
one week, we also had to switch the entire production to separate three-shift
operation in order to ensure physical separation of the employees,” says Michael
Gerling, Managing Director for Technology and Production, describing
the impact of the pandemic on the awning factory.
“We had to hire more than 300 external workers to absorb the highly fluctuating
utilisation of production capacity and the enormous increase in orders.
That was a logistical tour de force,” says Head of Human Resources Heike Reinermann.
However, due to the long lockdown in the catering and hospitality industry,
it was in the large-scale shading segment that the awning specialist recorded
the sharpest declines. But sales figures stabilised, as the outdoor trade
has never been as important for catering and hospitality businesses as it is at
present. According to Head of Marketing and Business Development Christiane
Berning, the fact that the order situation was able to recover so quickly
The management team from left to right Klaus Wuchner, Managing Director for
Sales and Marketing, Christiane Berning, Head of Marketing and Business Development,
Heike Reinermann, Head of Human Resources, and Michael Gerling, Managing
Director for Technology and Production
was also due to a timely “social distancing campaign”. “Our customer relationships,
marketing and advertising campaigns have become even more digital
in the process,” she emphasises.
Looking back on the year 2020, the two managing directors, Klaus Wuchner
and Michael Gerling, agree that it was thanks to the high level of commitment
of its employees and good cooperation with customers and suppliers
that the company was able to cope so well with the pandemic. The duo now
plan to capitalise on the positive trend in home and garden investments in
2021: “This year, we will again be offering the end customer attractive products
and product enhancements in response the increased interest in attractive design
for the home. And we will be presenting the innovations at ‘R+T digital’,”,
says Klaus Wuchner. In addition, according to Michael Gerling, the company
plans to place even greater focus on the expansion of digital and automated
processes. The investments of the past years have proven to be correct, so that
markilux looks forward with confidence to the year 2021, even though the economic
situation is still difficult to assess and Coronavirus will continue to accompany
the company.
REVIEW WITH AN IMPRESSIVE RESULT
Reflexa thanks employees
Photo: Reflexa
The year 2020 was a challenging but at the same
time very satisfying year for Reflexa. In the midst of
the Covid-19 crisis, it was necessary to adapt to constantly
changing conditions. To protect the health
of its employees, hygiene concepts were established
at the company’s business locations and are
constantly being further developed. In many areas,
a functioning and innovative working model has
been established through the possibility of mobile
working. The company was able to make an important
contribution by using 3D printers to produce
face visors, which were distributed to social institutions
and clinical facilities in the Günzburg district.
Important trade fairs such as the Fensterbau Frontale
in Nuremberg had to be cancelled in 2020. For
Reflexa, however, this was reason enough to further
expand its digital sales channels. Among other
things, a new B2B online shop was set up for the
specialist trade and established itself as a popular
ordering medium in the customer base within just
a few months. With the newly developed
product designer app, Reflexa
is adding a clear exclamation
mark after the word digitalisation.
Augmented reality technology allows
several sun shading products
to be visualised on the house at the
same time via smartphone or tablet
- which is unique in the industry.
Reflexa also celebrated the opening
of a showroom at its subsidiary
plant in Oederan. It was designed
as a platform allowing the specialist
trade to experience the entire Reflexa product
world up close. Reflexa was named “Germany’s Innovation
Leader 2020” for its convincing innovative
strength. In 2020, Reflexa closed with a 10% increase
in turnover. The company achieved growth across
all product areas. It is particularly proud of a turnover
increase of almost 30 % within the insect screen
In such extraordinary times
as today, it is all the more
important for Managing
Director Miriam Albrecht both
that employees can rely on
the company - and vice versa.
division. Managing Director Miriam
Albrecht emphasises that the
company is extremely grateful and
proud of the trust placed in it by retailers
and end customers. In 2021,
the company can look back on a
60-year tradition, which began in
1961 with the production of Venetian
blinds in the Bavarian-Swabian
town of Rettenbach. It is therefore
not surprising that the company
continues to invest in the site
and is adding a total of 6200 m 2
of production space for the blind, asymmetry and
shipping/logistics divisions. Construction is scheduled
to start in spring 2021. “We are really looking
forward to the upcoming anniversary year,” says Albrecht.
“With the extension, we plan to meet the increasing
demand for high-quality sun protection
products.”
THE ARCHIKON ARCHITECTS’ CONGRESS WILL BE HELD DIGITALLY
AT R+T
Designing living spaces
for the future
How can small and medium-sized towns in
rural regions in Baden-Württemberg be designed
in a way that makes sense and appeals
to many different target groups in the
future? What should our living space of tomorrow
look like? What are suitable solution
concepts and planning methods?
The participants of ARCHIKON 2021 will
deal with these and other questions relating
to the topic of “Rethinking our country”.
The State Congress for Architecture and Urban Development will take
place on 25 February 2021 in parallel to the R+T digital and for the first time
as an online congress. As a comprehensive, inspiring networking, further education
and discussion platform, the event offers representatives from (landscape)
architecture, urban planning, politics and business the opportunity to
exchange individual points of view, listen to exciting presentations, develop
visions and, with a view to the upcoming state elections, jointly develop
solution concepts for the urban planning future of the “Innovation State of
Baden-Württemberg”.
Current studies show: Baden-Württemberg will remain a growth region in
the future. Municipalities that offer good jobs and infrastructure are experiencing
steady growth, regardless of their size. The more scenic regions of our
country will also remain attractive for many people – under fundamentally
changed framework conditions: What are liveable, stable living environments
in an ageing, individualised society? How can local supply function in the long
term? Which municipal facilities will be important in the future?
“Demographic change, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, digitalisation – there is
a shake-up in the worlds of life and work all over the world. The current pandemic
is accelerating key transformation processes. Baden-Württemberg will have to
change fundamentally – a challenging design task that needs to be solved,” says
Markus Müller, President of the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects.
The ARCHIKON 2021 is organised by the Institute for Further Education in the
Building Trade of the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects in cooperation
with the Stuttgart Exhibition Centre. The programme of the conference
can be downloaded from www.archikon-akbw.de.
R+T DIGITAL
R+T INNOVATION AWARD FORMS THE CORE OF THE HYBRID EVENT CONCEPT
The R+T digital is eagerly awaited
The Stuttgart Exhibition Centre is breaking new ground with the first R+T digital. R+T – the world’s
leading trade fair for roller shutters, doors and sun protection – is extending its range of products
and services into virtual space and, in this context, is designing a hybrid event format: From 22 to 25
February 2021, the participants of R+T digital will have the opportunity to present newly developed
product innovations on an international platform and to transfer knowledge across the industry. More
than 300 exhibitors from 25 countries are taking part in the R+T digital. 105 registrations, i.e. 37 per
cent, come from German exhibitors, more than 63 per cent result from international participation.
_
Besides Germany, the top exhibiting
countries are Italy, China, Spain and
Turkey. But there are also some exhibitors from
France, Poland, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, the
Netherlands, the Czech Republic and South Korea.
The format will be supplemented by hybrid
fringe events that will be streamed digitally online
on the R+T platform as well as held on site in
Stuttgart. “With the R+T digital, we want to give
our exhibitors and partners access to our worldwide
visitor network, so that the new products
developed for 2021 can be presented in detail
within this framework. This is our overriding goal
for the R+T digital. For this reason, the presentation
of the R+T Innovation Award is at the heart of
the event concept,” says Sebastian Schmid, Head
of the Technology department at the Stuttgart Exhibition
Centre. “Digital event formats will not and
complement the physical gathering
at the R+T 2022 in Stuttgart,
the industry together virtually
Over 3
final judging
of the international
Innovation
Award.
In the Conference Area of the R+T digital, hybrid events such as the Gastronomy Day, Smart Home Forum,
Torforum for gates and the presentation of the Innovation Awards will also take place.
Platform based
on three pillars
Will everything be different or
is much already known? The
concept of the R+T remains the
same: Exhibitors present their
new products to the international
trade fair visitors
while a varied programme of
presentations will create knowledge
transfer. In addition, the industry can exchange
information and network online. The
platform for the R+T digital is based precisely on
these pillars:
The Expo Area is home to the exhibitor showroom,
which is divided into different product categories.
In the respective theme halls, visitors can
get an overview of the diverse innovations and
new products in the industry at virtual trade fair
booths, for example with information materials
available for download, detailed product videos
or, in the case of premium participations, with
their own workshops or live lectures. In addition,
exhibitors can contact visitors directly via text or
video chat.
Moreover, there will be an Exhibitor Forum on
the platform. Here, exhibitors can post 15-minute
web sessions in which visitors can find out
about new products and the current global market
situation.
In the Conference Area, specialist presentations
will be broadcast live throughout the event with
reference to current key topics in the industry
(gastronomy, innovations, building trade, architecture),
most of which will be implemented as
hybrid events. This enables participants to follow
the conference programme live from anywhere
in the world – without necessarily having to be
on site.
Even after the live event from 22 to 25 February
2021, the entire platform of the R+T digital,
including the exhibitor booths and the programme
of presentations, will be available for another
year – until the R+T 2022.
Extensive supporting
programme for the R+T digital
In the live period of the R+T digital from 22 to 25
February 2021, visitors will be offered an extensive
supporting programme. On each live day, visitors
to the platform can watch interesting live
R+T Alliance Forum
In addition, an English-language conference programme
will be broadcast live over all four days
located in the R+T digital foyer. Here, the current
trends, developments and challenges that the
international R+T markets are continuously facing
will be presented and discussed. On 23 February
2021, for example, the “Discover Italy Forum”
invites German architects and specialist dealers
to discover the latest developments from a total
of 54 Italian exhibitors. The Stuttgart Exhibition
Centre is supported in this by long-standing,
international partner associations from the
sun protection and door industry. In addition, detailed
information on the R+T Alliance trade fairs
is available at this booth: R+T Asia, R+T Turkey,
Opinions on the R+T digital
Dr. Theresa Schöne, Marketing Manager at heroal,
confirms the concept of the R+T digital: “Participation
in the R+T – whether as a face-to-face
event or in digital form – was never out of the
question for us. As an important
industry get-together, the
R+T offers us the ideal opportunity
to present new approaches
with regard to our product portfolio
and our range of services.
As a solution provider in the
field of sun protection, we are looking forward
to presenting innovative new products from this
product area in February 2021 and to exchanging
ideas with our customers and interested parties
on this subject.”
Helmut Friedrich, Managing Director of ASO
GmbH Antriebs- und Steuerungstechnik, is also
convinced by the R+T digital: “From our point of
view as a component manufacturer, the importance
of the R+T is also high on a digital level,
which is why taking part represents a no-brainer
question for ASO Safety Solutions. People should
not be kept waiting long for a real-time perception
of current market movements and equally
that of our innovations.” Christian Dietl, Head
of Technology for the German speaking countries
(DACH) at Deceuninck Germany, shares this
view: “Our new PROtex 2.0 product is now available.
Therefore
we don’t want to wait until the R+T 2022 to present
it to a wide audience. We want to show a digital
presence at R+T and cultivate regular customer
relationships, but we also clearly want to make
new contacts.”
Sully Briskomatis, Marketing & Communication
Manager at the Italian outdoor manufacturer
Corradi, also emphasises the importance of the
world’s leading trade fair: “The R+T has always
been one of the most important international
trade fairs and we
trust that the digital edition will
WHO AND WHAT ARE THE DRIVERS OF SMART HOME?
Where is the trend in Smart
Homes heading?
Photo: C4MICE
_
What are the trends of the future,
how will the trade deal with the
Smart Home requirement in the future? If plug
& play really is possible, users will in future only
need a corresponding hub that supports the
common wi-fi protocol. Does Smart Home simply
mean plugging in a device and the system
automatically recognises that a new device is
in the home wireless network? How are the ever-popular
voice assistants developing? Are data
protection concerns becoming less important?
Questions about questions that will certainly be
raised or discussed at the R+T Smart Home Forum
at the R+T digital. The R+T Smart Home Forum
is already familiar from the previous physical
edition of the world’s leading trade fair for this
industry, the R+T 2018 in Stuttgart. At the trade
fair booth of the Federal Association of
Roller Shutters + Sun Protection (Bundesverband
Rolladen + Sonnenschutz)
last year, approx. 2 hours per day were
devoted to a particular theme, with
presentations and a discussion round,
involving similar topics.
“Connected life, living and working - opportunities
for the trade” is the main theme of this year’s Smart
Home Forum at the R+T digital on 24 February 2021.
From 2p.m. until 6p.m., the participants will speak and
discuss live at the international Congress Centre in
the Stuttgart Exhibition Centre. On this occasion, the
audience will be sitting in their office or home office
for this hybrid event, and can actively participate
in the question and discussion rounds online.
Same name, new format
At the R+T digital, the Smart Home Forum
will now be held on the Building
Trade Day, and will take place in a hybrid
format. This means that moderators,
speakers and discussion participants
will appear on an 18 m wide stage in the
ICS at the Stuttgart Exhibition Centre, while visitors
will participate exclusively online from their
offices or home offices.
On this day, seven exciting presentations and an
extensive discussion round will enable visitors
to gain a comprehensive overview of the many
possibilities and advantages of Smart Home. The
event consists of four blocks. The first three presentations
will be followed by the first round of
discussions with interesting experts on the topic
of “Connected life, living and working – opportunities
for the building trade”. This will be followed
by another four presentations. The second
discussion round will conclude the day. The exact
presentation programme can be viewed digitally
Real format again in 2022
At the R+T 2022, the Smart Home Forum will
again take place as a real format over the entire
duration of the fair. This means different and interesting
thematic blocks for each day with presentations,
which will be complemented by a discussion
round to suit the topic. —
As in 2018, presentations and panel discussions will take
place in Stuttgart with all speakers in real life. An 18 m
wide stage ensures social distancing and compliance with
Corona rules.
At the R+T digital, the audience will not be sitting at the
trade fair booth of the Federal Association for Roller Shutters
Advertorial
The easy introduction to the Smart Home world
“The little sister of the HomePilot®” -
Smart Home control centre Bridge
from RADEMACHER
Smart Home specialist RADEMACHER now
makes it even easier for interested customers
to make their home smart: The RADEMACH-
ER Bridge, the little sister of the HomePilot®, is
now available. “Many customers are looking
for an inexpensive and, above all, extremely
uncomplicated way to enter the Smart Home
world,” explains Benjamin Hitpass, Smart
Home Product Manager at RADEMACHER:
“With the new Bridge, we have just what they
need.”
3,2,1 - Done! Smart sun protection
installed in a flash
Raising and lowering the blinds yourself every
day at different times and in different rooms
can quickly become annoying. This is where
the RADEMACHER Bridge plays its trump card.
The Bridge is particularly suitable for those
who want to control their Smart Home components
such as roller shutters, awnings, heating
and lighting with their smartphone and, if necessary,
check the status of the devices while on
the move or on holiday. All the RADEMACHER
Bridge needs is an Internet router, which is
connected to the device via a LAN cable.
The control unit works via the free, intuitive
HomePilot® app for smartphone and tablet,
which is available for both iOS and Android.
The desired components can then be set up
in no time at all. Especially convenient: The
RADEMACHER Bridge can be combined with
the voice assistants Amazon Alexa and Google
Assistant and can thus also be activated
using voice commands. Via Amazon Alexa,
additional routines which are either linked to
self-defined times or to sunrise or sunset can
be set. And it can be connected to already installed
smart components in no time via voice
control. This allows uniform operation and
automation of RADEMACHER privacy and sun
protection solutions together with other Alexa-
or Google Assistant-enabled devices.
Customers who acquire a taste for even more
comprehensive Smart Home applications can
later switch easily to the HomePilot® and thus
the complete solution with all automation
options. The Bridge makes the changeover
easy for users: The backup copy of the Bridge
can simply be imported into the HomePilot®
allowing the immediate use of even more options
such as scenes and automatic sequences
- for example, turning down the heating as
soon as a window opens.
“Swiping” in the app
instead of pulling on
the belt
RolloTube S-Line DuoFern - the smart
premium roller shutter motor with numerous
equipment features
The RADEMACHER premium drive model
S-Line DuoFern is the perfect complement
to the RADEMACHER Bridge. It is a self-learning
radio tubular motor with soft stop. It
has an integrated interface for simple and
quick integration into the RADEMACHER
DuoFern radio system. And it has much
more to offer: e. g. reliable reversal when an
obstacle has been detected during a blockage.
An integrated fly screen ensures that
the roller shutter movement is stopped
if a fly screen door is not properly closed.
The S-Line DuoFern also offers maximum
flexibility when it comes to control: it can
be easily activated via the RADEMACH-
ER Bridge and the HomePilot® app or via
hand-held transmitter and multiple wall
buttons from RADEMACHER.
SOMFY RECEIVES TAHOMA CERTIFICATION FROM APPLE
HOMEKIT
The home is now even smarter
Somfy is not only the
world market leader for
drive and control solutions
for roller shutters
and sun protection, but
already connects over
five million devices worldwide
in a comprehensive
Smart Home ecosystem.
As a pioneer of automated
living, the company’s
products are installed
in any number of buildings
worldwide, and it has
stood for an interoperable
and secure Smart Home
world for many years. Today,
Somfy already integrates
numerous partner
Oliver Rilling has been with Somfy since
1995 and Head of Strategic Product Marketing
since 2015.
solutions in addition to its own products. This means that around 200 devices
can currently be connected to the TaHoma.
For Apple fans, the Smart Home world of Somfy is now even more interesting:
following the successful integration of the indoor and outdoor
cameos, Somfy has rounded off HomeKit compatibility from the
majority of the outdoor sun shading motors with I/O radio via the Ta-
Homa Premium Smart Home control panel, which will be certified at
the end of 2020.
In future, it will be possible to control roller shutters, external blinds,
vertical awnings (screens), patio awnings and pergolas conveniently via
voice recognition with Siri. The necessary software update for the TaHoma
box has been available since December 2020. In addition to Google
Assistant and Amazon Alexa, Somfy thus creates further options for
voice control.
Somfy’s declared goal is to continuously develop new solutions that enable
every user to have a comfortable, safe and energy-efficient home.
The focus of the “So Open Initiative” launched in 2018 is the customer
experience – as well as the possibilities for clever networking of different
devices. In addition to expanding its own product portfolio, Somfy
cooperates with leading international brands such as Philips Hue, Velux
or Sonos.
Another essential factor is the gradual expansion of compatibility with
Apple HomeKit as an internationally popular and secure software framework.
Oliver Rilling, Head of Strategic Product Marketing, will not only speak at
the Smart Home Forum about new products like TaHoma switch and the
technical features associated with them, such as a solution that has been
registered and nominated for the Innovation Award, but will also use his
presentation to show the advantages that the Smart Home sector offers
to the specialised trade. In the subsequent discussion round, it will be
very interesting to see whether anyone picks up this ball and runs with it.
COOPERATION BETWEEN HOMEE AND WAREMA
Managing sun protection
optimally
In the 4th quarter of 2020,
Warema acquired a 33 % stake
in the Smart Home provider
homee with its wholly owned
subsidiary Novaco Invest. With
this, the sun shading manufacturer
wants to strengthen
the further development
of the homee system for solutions
relating to smart control
systems.
For Warema, digitalisation
has been a major topic for its
own sun protection systems
for some time. “We have already
been involved in this
for years and bring extensive
experience in the development,
production and sales of
Stefan Ruf comes from Warema’s technical
support department and is now product line
manager for wireless technology.
smart solutions in the areas of indoor climate and sunlight management to
homee GmbH,” explains Steffen Konrad, Digital Business Manager at Warema.
“Our product knowledge represents a win-win situation for both sides with
homee’s digital expertise,” adds Konrad.
The cooperation itself is not completely new territory for both sides. In the
Sun & Living Spaces division, for example, the Marktheidenfeld company is
already relying on homee technology with the development of its own red
cube with a WMS radio system. The participation is intended to capture market
share and further strategically expand in the growing business of Smart
Homes.
To actively drive this win-win situation forward, homee also relies on the
strength of other partners. For example, the Stuttgart-based company Codeatelier,
with its expertise in the field of IoT (Internet of Things), is on board,
as is the Austrian energy service provider Energie Steiermark, based in Graz.
The objective for this cooperation is clear to those involved: “With this concentrated
experience, we are creating strong synergy effects in the areas
of Smart Home and energy – especially through our new business unit.
stromee. This gives us the optimal prerequisites to become one of the leading
providers of Smart Home systems in Europe,” explains Mario Weißensteiner,
Managing Director of homee GmbH.
Stefan Ruf, Product Line Manager Wireless at Warema, will present the synergy
effects of homee and Warema’s products in his talk at the Smart Home
Forum, in order to demonstrate the optimum use of sun protection in conjunction
with energy efficiency as well as thermal and visual comfort, for example
the Venetian blind solution nominated for the Innovation Award. The
possible integration of third-party suppliers, e.g. from the garage door sector,
will also play a role.
The online viewers will thus experience another interesting presentation on
the topic of digitalisation, which will also address the connections between
the different worlds in the Smart Home. It is bound to be a topic for the two
discussion rounds at the Smart Home Forum at the R+T digital.
NICE GROUP WITH NEW BUSINESS UNIT FOR SUN PROTECTION SOLUTIONS
Elero participates in the Smart Home with two entries
Effective and state-of-the art sun protection is
more important than ever for many builders, planners
and architects today - and demand in the corresponding
market segment will continue to rise
in the future. The Nice Group is reacting to this
development and positioning itself even more
strongly in this important area with the new business
unit “Sun Shading Solutions”.
The new business unit is responsible for all sun
protection operations of the group with the
brands elero, Nice and TTGO. It includes the applications
roller shutters, textile sun protection,
Venetian blinds, interior shading and façade. Head
of the business unit is Enzo Viola, Managing Director
of the renowned German drive and control
manufacturer elero. As of 1 January 2021, the business
unit will use its combined expertise to drive
the topic of sun protection forward worldwide. In
his expanded role, Viola will continue to report directly
to Roberto Griffa, CEO of Nice Group.
Elero has long been known for its innovative and
reliable drive solutions for roller shutters and sun
protection systems “made in Germany”. Most recently,
the company set a new standard in roller
shutter automation with the quiet
RolMotion roller shutter drive
and the solar-powered RolSolar
M-868 DC.
The well-known drive manufacturer
is a wholly-owned subsidiary
of the Italian Nice Group,
one of the leading suppliers
of a wide range of products in
the fields of home automation,
home security and smart home
solutions. Innovative concepts
for light management and sun protection for private
households as well as industrial companies
are an important pillar within the versatile, integrable
product portfolio.
“Our goal is to develop potential market segments
globally even more successfully while always being
there for our customers locally. With the market
proximity and experience of a traditional German
company and the strength of a globally active
player, we have everything we need to do this,” explains
Enzo Viola. The advantages of the new business
unit are manifold: In future, product innovations
can be driven forward even more strongly,
and strategies can be adapted more precisely to
the respective markets and their needs.
At the Smart Forum, Enzo Viola will also be giving
presentations for elero and Sun Shading Solutions.
The presentation will also include the RolMotion
drive, which has been entered for the Innovation
Award. Thanks to its optimised running behaviour,
it has an almost noiseless slow speed which
can be activated by the user at the push of a button.
Automatic commands are always executed in
whisper mode.
HOMEPILOT AND BRIDGE OFFER ALTERNATIVES FOR SALE AND USE
Rademacher relies on cloud and local data storage
Photo: Rademacher
Managing Director Ralf Kern is the spokesman for the
management of the company and is primarily responsible
for the company’s product strategy and technology.
Rademacher’s motto is simple: A lot of technology does
not make a smart home, and only the needs-based interaction
of the various devices in desired scenarios will inspire
users. “Our claim is relatively simple to formulate.
We want the digital journey which the customer embarks
on when exploring smart home solutions to end at
Rademacher and with a decision in favour of our Smart
Home system. No matter whether he or she is still in the
information phase or has already had contact with other
smart home products. It is important to integrate our professional
partners into these processes in order to be successful
together,” explains Managing Director Ralf Kern.
With the HomePilot, the company, which is based in Rhede on the Lower
Rhine, has been successful in the smart home sector for many years and has
recently introduced the third generation of the HomePilot and the Rademacher
Bridge. The Bridge is the easiest way for manufacturers and end customers
to control or automate their privacy/sun protection via app & voice (Amazon/
Google). This offers convenient on-site privacy/sun protection, building automation
without committing to a smart home system and integration
into the IoT (Internet of Things).
The development of the Bridge is a result of our market research,
says Kern. In the age of Dropbox and other online storage
options, cloud solutions are generally accepted and simplify
many things when it comes to minimising the effort required
for installation and, for example, the issue of updates.
Ultimately, the customer always has the choice with HomePilot (local) and the
Bridge (cloud). For Rademacher, with an entry price of less than 100 euros, this
also means access to new markets, e.g. the tenant market. For the specialist
trade, it is a lead-in to the customer. Later changeover to the HomePilot is possible
at any time due to the DuoFern modules used. The Bridge was nominated
for the Innovation Award in the category Building Automation.
BECKER FOCUSES ON THE END USER BENEFIT
Smart living made easy
Anyone who wants to live smart should be able to rely on
systems that take personal preferences and individual living
circumstances into account. To meet these requirements
with maximum flexibility, intelligent control systems and
powerful drives are needed, which Becker will once again
be presenting to the trade public at the first virtual edition
of the R+T.
This year, Becker looks back on 100 years of company history.
During this time, there have been many further developments
in the area of roller shutters and sun protection. “We would
have liked to present our current product developments to
our customers in person. Since this is unfortunately not possible,
we are happy to use the digital path that the Stuttgart Exhibition
Centre offers us,” says Frank Techncal, Sales and Marketing
Manager at Becker.
BoxCTRL is one of the many new products that Becker is
presenting. All that is needed for the Smart Home integration of the new generation
of drives is a suitable FRITZ!Box. This intelligent solution was so convincing
that it has been nominated for the R+T Innovation Award 2021.
With the new CentronicPlus radio system, the company from the town of Sinn
in the Hesse region demonstrates the advantages of bidirectionality. CentronicPlus
automatically forms its own mesh network, in which the individual
and Marketing at Becker, and is
considered a proven Smart Home
specialist.
drives and receivers are interconnected. Together with the
new CentralControl CC41 home control unit, it forms a system
for the Smart Home that can also be conveniently operated
on the move using the new Becker app.
The EVO drive series provides moments of tranquillity.
Thanks to brushless DC motor technology, they are particularly
quiet in operation. In addition, they offer clever additional
features such as individually adjustable driving profiles,
fly screen protection function and protection against
freezing solid.
In addition, there is a drive series with integrated EnOcean
radio as well as the SolarKit SK460, which supplies the drive
with power with the help of a solar panel and thus enables
roller shutter and screen automation independent of the
mains.
At the Smart Home Forum at the R+T digital, Frank Techncal
will participate as a speaker for Becker drives and present the latest developments,
as well as the possibilities that arise from them. Becker’s clear focus
is on the benefits for the user of the Smart Home. If the customer is satisfied,
the specialist retailer will have more success with sales thanks to connection
to the FritzBox. A development that should be good news for manufacturers
and retailers.
www.becker-antriebe.de
HELLA FOCUSES ON VERSATILITY
Simply keep control
Photo: Hella
The Austrian manufacturer Hella from East Tyrol is
considered a specialist in the roller shutter and sun
protection sector. This also includes a Smart Home
system of its own to be able to conveniently operate
the sun protection or to leave it if the user does
not want to worry about it. The Onyx.Home control
system was therefore specially developed for
the operation of sun shading products. Awnings,
or for instance products such as external Venetian
blinds, ZIP systems or roller shutters, have been
nominated for the Innovation Award, and are conveniently
controlled via smartphone, tablet or automation.
All shading elements are graphically
displayed in the free Onyx app.
The position of the sun protection is already visible
during control. All products can be visually
identified by colours in the app. In addition, it is
possible to assign names to each individual hanging
for easier identification and operation. The sun
protection products can of course
also be controlled via normal buttons.
This means that children or
guests who do not have access to
the Onyx.Home system can also
operate the sun protection.
New products are easy to integrate.
The QR code is the link between
the devices. The app simply
scans the code of a control
unit to add it to the system. Assign
names and a colour, and you
have full control.
Light and shade can also be selected at home
through gestures. The centrebox serves as an interface
between the smartphone and the individual
control units, and communicates via a wireless
radio link. It passes on radio commands bidirectionally,
thus the exact current position of the
Manuel Stanglechner, Head of IT
Development at Hella, also deals
very intensively with data protection
and data security.
sun protection is displayed via
the live feedback in the app.
Voice control via Amazon Alexa
is available for commands such
as “Extend the awning” or “Set
the external Venetian blind to
70%”. As long as the device is
nearby, you control the shading
elements with your voice
and thus hands-free. These are
just a few of the features that
Onyx can map. At the Smart
Home Forum, chief IT developer
Manuel Stanglechner will explain the essential
points for the manufacturers of Smart Home systems
and their specialist partners as distributors of
these components to the actual users, and also refer
to the topic of data security in Smart Home systems.
As co-founder and head of engineering
and digital home integration at DaVinci
Domotics, José Miguel Rubio Varas works
with Cherubini.
Cherubini is an Italian manufacturing company
founded in 1947. With branches in 6 countries
- Italy, Spain, France, Germany, China, China
- the company has been producing accessories
for manual operation for solar protection for
40 years and devices for automatic operation for
20 years.
By 2018 Cherubini decided to take a step forward
into the Internet of Things Universe via the number
one Smart Home radio protocol Z-Wave.
The Open ZRX drive, for example, is equipped with
two radio interfaces and a module for controlling
the communication. The first interface is based
on the Z-Wave protocol (Multipoint) and is able
to communicate with all gateways on the market
that use this standard. The second interface
uses the Cherubini radio protocol CRC (Point-to-
Point) which allows to control and adjust the actuator
in the traditional way with Cherubini handheld
transmitters. Since then, relevant achievements
have been made. First the acquisition and
integration of Widom and Widom Z-Wave devices
ecosystem, a dual 433/Z-Wave tubular motor development
and a new dual 433/Z-Wave gateway
and APP development METAHome together with
the development of new collaterals devices.
like Z-Wave opened an amazing new range
of opportunities to Cherubini Group. For instance,
by now these systems are the brain of such game
changer house as Sunthalpy. The first solar house
that works in the Atlantic climate.
Sunthalpy has developed and patented a technology
that has allowed us to create the first 100 %
solar/offgrid building in Atlantic climate, covering
all the needs of a family of 4 members (including
an electric vehicle and heated outdoor swimming
pool). Sunthalpy has solved the two technical limits
to achieve 100 % solar self-sufficient buildings,
with no CO 2 emissions.
So it can collect sufficient heat even in cloudy
winter days, and it can store heat efficiently at
structure or swimming-pools. But a body without
a brain it is nothing. Cherubini Smart Home systems
are now the brain of the first working Sunthalpy
prototype and will be for new projects and
developments.
The project will be presented as part of the Smart
Home Forum at R+T digital by Mr. José Miguel Rubio
Varas, partner of Cherubini for Smart Home
projects.
INNOVATION AWARD
32 COMPANIES IN THE FINAL JUDGING OF THE R+T INNOVATION AWARD
Every year again
The best entries will be selected at R+T digital and presented
with their prizes at the official awards ceremony on 22 February
2021, which will be broadcast in a live stream, with the R+T
Innovation Award. For the first time, several award winners
per category can be honoured at this award ceremony with the
Innovation Award in gold, silver and bronze. All winners will be
presented on the Tuesday of the fair on the Day of Innovations
during an event moderated by jury members with video entries.
This is the coveted trophy of the Innovation Award, which
will be presented online at a hybrid event on the evening
of 22 February 2021 at the ICS,
_
The submission phase for the R+T Innovation Award ended at
the end of October. This will form the heart of R+T digital in
2021. On the first live day, 22 February 2021, the winners will be determined in
the final judging and awarded in the evening at an exclusive hybrid awards
ceremony. A total of around 100 submissions from 13 countries were accepted
for pre-judging in all eleven product categories. This means that the submissions
have been at a very high level.
Sebastian Schmid, the head of the department responsible for R+T, is
pleased with the response from the industry: “The number of applicants
shows the demand of the industry, which would like to present their developed
innovations to the trade audience online at R+T digital. For this reason,
the presentation of the R+T Innovation Award is at the centre of the
digital event concept.” The preliminary judging was held at the beginning of
December, during which the applications are sifted through by the expert
jury and the nominated products are determined. For the first time, several
award winners per category can be honoured at this award ceremony.
Among the applicants are again well-known companies that have already
participated in the Innovation Award several times, but also some new
companies. In addition, there are long-standing R+T exhibitors who have
submitted their products for the R+T Innovation Award for the first time.
INNOVATION
AWARD 2021
NOMINATED
“Overall, we have a great mix in terms of registrations! We are pleased that
companies are accepting and using the opportunities we offer with R+T
digital. Innovations will again play an important role at R+T 2022, because
the physical presence trade fair will continue to be the trend barometer and
highlight of the RTS industry”, adds Sebastian Schmid.
The process of the final judging
For the judging, the nominated companies submit film entries from the fair,
limited to 5 minutes, which can be viewed online by the jury. Together with
the application documents when registering for the Innovation Award, the
jurors can thus get a precise picture of the submissions. In the time frame
from 15 to 17 February, the jurors will individually make their decisions online
for the nominees in the 11 award categories.
On the Monday morning of the trade fair, the final judging will take place at
the ICS of Messe Stuttgart. The special prizes will then also be determined
here. The jury’s award ceremony will of course take place in strict compliance
with the relevant Corona regulations.
DOORS & GATES FORUM
TOP TOPIC R+T DIGITAL
DOORS&GATES FORUM WITH INTERESTING CONTENT
Gate and more
At R+T digital, too, the Tor Forum on the Wednesday of the
fair will be an integral part of the fair. In short presentations,
experts from BVT – Verband Tore, BAS.T Bundesverband Antriebsund
Steuerungstechnik.Tore, Fachverband Türautomation
and ift Rosenheim will discuss current challenges and
developments in the industry. The BVT Chairman Dr. Claus
Schwenzer will take over the moderation of the Tor Forum.
_
What challenges do the revised standards pose for door manufacturers?
What’s important for the CE marking of gates? What does
the classification of burglar-resistant doors mean? What does Industry 4.0
bring to the door industry? These are just a few of the topics of the Tor Forum
at R+T digital on 24 February 2021, which runs from 9:00 AM until probably
11:30 PM. In short presentations, experts from BVT – Verband Tore, BAS.T Bundesverband
Antriebs- und Steuerungstechnik.Tore and ift Rosenheim dealt
with current challenges and developments in the industry. After each lecture
there are approx. 5 minutes available for questions and answers, so that the
online audience can also participate in the event.
Classic preparation
The lead in the planning of the Tor Forum lies with the BVT – Verband Tore,
which is a nationwide association of gate and barrier manufacturers and suppliers
to the gate industry. Emerging from the Metal Rolling Gate Association,
which was re-established in 1947, it serves around
170 predominantly family-run companies from the Lectures
industrial SME sector. Internationally active industrial
groups with their German subsidiaries and
branches as well as members from abroad complete
the profile of the association. “Even though
this time the event is being held as a hybrid event,
TOP TOPIC R+T DIGITAL GASTRONOMY DAY
PROFESSIONAL SUN AND WEATHER PROTECTION IS IN DEMAND
The perfect whole
The terrace is becoming an increasingly
important part of the catering industry.
However, getting the most out of it
is a challenge because guests want
to sit outside as long and as often as
possible. Therefore, solutions must be
found from the first rays of sunshine in
spring to the showery days in autumn.
Especially in holiday regions, the aim is
now to use the terraces all year round.
Consequently, there are plenty of topics
for presentations and discussions on
the Gastronomy Day at the R+T digital.
_
Whether at a city café in a parade of
shops, on a lakeside terrace, for an appealing
beer garden or outside a mountain hut,
attractively designed outdoor spaces have become
an important meeting place for people,
because the first rays of sunshine draw people
outside. But even in windy weather, guests want
to be out in the fresh air and let the wind blow
“lightly” around them in a sheltered atmosphere.
For the catering and hotel industry, this means
creating new customer potential and additional
sales opportunities. Therefore, decisions have to
be made as to which concept and which products
are suitable for outdoor operations. This is
precisely where the Stuttgart Exhibition Centre
concept comes in, namely to bring together the
worlds of INTERGASTRA and the R+T with the
concept of OUTDOOR. AMBIENTE. LIVING.
Already a tried and tested concept
The special exhibition OUTDOOR. AMBIENTE.
LIVING. has already been successfully integrated
twice (2018, 2020) at the INTERGASTRA hotel
& gastronomy trade fair in the Rothaus Park
on the grounds of the Stuttgart Exhibition Centre.
Top industry players recently presented their
high-quality sun and weather protection products
on more than 750 m 2 in the outdoor area
of the Stuttgart Exhibition Centre. From slatted
roofs and awnings to pergolas and sunshades –
Unfortunately, we will have to do without an outdoor exhibition this year, as we did in 2020. But
from 19 to 23 February 2022, the special show OUTDOOR. AMBIENTE. LIVING. will be held once again.
trade visitors could marvel at it all in the lower
and upper sections of Rothaus Park.
In addition, a 150-metre long and colourful avenue
of parasols with high-quality parasols from
renowned manufacturers invited visitors to linger.
More than 100,000 fair visitors took advantage
of this offer – regardless of whether it was
20 degrees in the sunshine or raining. In this way,
the other solution systems could also be examined
directly on site under real conditions.
The concept will be
further developed
“The feedback from visitors shows that we have
accurately gauged the times with the special
show,” says Sebastian Schmid, Head of the Tech-
As early as 2020, there was a series of presentations at
the R+T on the subject of sun and weather protection
Centre and initiator of the format. “With this success,
we are taking an important step towards
strengthening the brand OUTDOOR. AMBIENTE.
LIVING. and to further establish it in the market.”
INTERGASTRA project manager Markus Tischberger
is also convinced by the concept of the
special show: “The increasing demand for outdoor
solutions in gastronomy and the hotel industry
is clearly noticeable. This has encouraged
us to hold OUTDOOR. AMBIENTE. LIVING. again
at the INTERGASTRA 2022. I am pleased that we
have used the synergies in-house, that we have
been able to develop this project so successfully
and we will continue to do so in the future.” At
the upcoming INTERGASTRA from 19 to 23 Febru-
There are suitable solutions for every individual
requirement, whether individual parasols or parasol
REFLEXA NOMINATED FOR THE INNOVATION
AWARD WITH TWO PRODUCTS
The world is becoming
more digital
Photo: Reflexa
As the Covid-19 crisis continues, the exhibition industry is
betting on the success of new digital concepts. When it became
known that the R+T would not be held as usual in 2021, but as
a virtual experience fair, Reflexa’s enthusiasm for this format
was immediately aroused. The company from Rettenbach sees
itself as well prepared with the participation and nomination
for the R+T Innovation Award and many product innovations.
_
“For us, customer proximity and personal
exchange are two very important
building blocks for success that enable us to
specifically orient the development of new products
and services to the requirements of our customers,”
says Marketing Manager Markus Haltmayer.
“Accordingly, it was also immediately clear
to us that we would participate in this innovative
format, the R+T digital.”
The B2B online shop has been able to establish itself
in the specialist trade and is constantly being developed
further.
Bella Lamella available from April
Reflexa will inform the trade about the new
products for 2021 in virtual form. Among other
things, they will present a new sliding system in
the insect screen area, which from now on ensures
quick and easy operation with a recessed
grip built into the frame all around. The new handle
profile also eliminates the previously necessary
crossbar and thus creates sufficient stability
with a full view of the outside.
The focus of the new products presentation is
the Bella Lamella, the new terrace canopy from
Reflexa with slats that open up to 110 degrees.
The outdoor living trend is becoming increasingly
popular. The Bella Lamella slatted roof is
made of high-quality aluminium and has a roof
with slats that can be adjusted to the desired
incidence of light for an optimal atmosphere.
Customers should be excited about the 100%
waterproof properties and, with a permissible
snow load of 112 kg/m 2 , an absolutely solid and
all-weather terrace solution. The slatted roof will
be available from April 2021.
With the package height calculator (available at
PERGOLAS
THE “PERGOLA STRETCH” FROM MARKILUX OFFERS WEATHER PROTECTION WITH IMPRESSIVE DIMENSIONS
Greater size through new
drive technology
Photo: markilux
Patios in private gardens have developed into
lounge areas which people like to use all year
round. Large awning systems offer the right
protection from sun and rain. They are also
very popular in the gastronomy and hotel
industry. This is because these systems create
an outdoor hospitality area that can be used
at almost any time of day or year. For this
reason, markilux has expanded its product
range to include the “pergola stretch”.
_
The pergola stretch stands for size and a larger weather-protected, shaded area. For
the catering industry in particular, this offers a wide range of opportunities to fulfil
guests’ desire for experience-oriented catering in the open air.
Thanks to a special gear transmission, this model can be increased
in size once again, thus creating additional application
options. In combination with waterproof fabrics, it also offers protection
from rain.
Single or multi-panel system possible
“Our ’pergola’ has been a very popular product with both private users and
commercial customers for years. Whether in the standard version or the
Options for atmospheric lighting, the installation of radiant heaters and a large
selection of fabric colours offer a wide range of variants for individualisation and
comfortable furnishing.
smaller, compact version. With the ’pergola stretch,’ we now offer a superlative
model,” explains Michael Gerling, Managing Director for Technology
and Production. It impresses with a maximum area of 7 × 7 m in a single-panel
installation. The awning can be coupled with several panels to allow
a total size of 25 × 7 m and thus shows true greatness, according to Gerling.
Each panel has its own radio-controlled motor.
Gear transmission with high driving force
The special feature of the “stretch version” is its innovative gear transmission.
According to Gerling, it transfers the driving forces optimally to the fabric
cover. The gearbox is housed in the front casing together with the electrical
components for light and heat options. The drive is connected to toothed
belt pulleys in the guide tracks and is pre-tensioned at the factory. It can be
easily re-tensioned by your specialist partner on site if necessary. And even
replacing the motor is quick and easy, as it is easily accessible through an
inspection shaft in the housing.
Canopy keeps rain and dirt out
The sunshade is available with two or three guide tracks, depending on the
width. To allow easy mounting of the rails on the housing, the wall brackets
can be fixed at an angle of 5° before setting the actual tilt angle. A wall connection
profile ensures a clean transition to the protective roof. It protects the
fabric against rain and dirt. The roof consists of individual profiles, the number
and size of which are tailored to the extension of the awning. Silicone seals
between the profiles and the housing prevent the scattering of rainwater.
made of UV- resistant,
waterproof and flameretardant
tarpaulin
fabric or markilux perla
Thanks to the stable protective system roof harmoniously integrated into the
awning frame, the fabric is protected from the weather and dirt in the retracted
position.
Cross profiles transport the fabric
“Our waterproof and flame-retardant fabrics sunvas perla FR and Soltis Proof
502 are used to ensure that you can sit in the dry under the awning,” Gerling
emphasises. Cross profiles move in the lateral guide tracks, ensuring a good
fabric fit, and retract and extend the awning fabric like a canopy. They can
also accommodate LED-Lines as accent lighting.
All electrical cables run, starting from the housing, in lateral cable ducts in
the outer guide tracks. Lighting systems or radiant heaters can also be attached
to a crossbar. In multi-panel systems, they can be controlled separately.
Equipped with new rain gutter
Another new feature of the “pergola stretch” is a rain gutter. It is connected
to the front posts, allowing rainwater to drain off at a slope of as little as five
degrees. The posts can be moved in or out and also contain cable ducts for
the electrical components. There is the option of integrating vertical awnings
with panorama windows as privacy screens, protection from wind or
rain from the side.
The “format slide” or “format triangle” products can also be combined with
the awning. As part of the “pergola family”, the “stretch model” now offers
a further option to protect outdoor spaces from wind and weather over a
large area and in a variable way almost all year round. —
A SOLUTION INSPIRED BY ARCHITECTURAL TRENDS
Clear messages
Imago is the latest project by Corradi from Bologna. Born out of a vision to redesign the
outdoor living space. Inspired by architectural trends, the solution is equipped with adjustable
slats in the roof area and other features. Imago is intended to go beyond the concept of an
outdoor product, and thus aims to redefine the dimension of the space to be inhabited.
Photo: Corradi
Photo: Corradi
Imago was awarded the Red Dot Award, Product Design 2020.
Different roof structures for different needs can be created very easily.
32 GLASWELT | Sonnenschutzwelt 2021

_
The “Domino” module combines the continuous
linear aesthetics and functionality of the construction.
The roof drainage is thus routed under the supporting
structure. Individual modules have a size of up to 500 cm wide
and 627 cm long, with a height of 300 cm.
Experience is in the forefront
The “Private” module, designed to create an interior space in
the structure, provides a private area that can be used as a
changing room. Storage space for chairs and loungers, wardrobes,
table supports can also be created in this way. A room
that can be set up entirely according to need. “Private” consists
of a partition of fixed and sliding Brise-Soleil panels mounted
on an additional intermediate beam and with a fixed transparent
Plexiglas cover, which can be supplemented by lighting
from above. It is also possible to integrate LED lights into
the gutter profile inside the “Private” module. “Look at the Sky”,
consists of a 12 mm thick, compact transparent polycarbonate
sheet that is UV and weather resistant and integrated into the
The lighting options and the design of lighting scenarios are very diverse at Imago.
overall structure. The fastening is done by a system of gaskets
and stainless steel plates to ensure the required rain tightness.
In addition to the mono and bicolour versions, where the upright structure
and slats can have different shades, Imago is also available in a special Cocoon
format. The innovative bicolour Cocoon version is characterised by the
different colouring between the outside and inside of the elements.
Numerous furnishing options
The new slat design is perfectly complemented by LED lights. The newly developed
sealing system prevents the passage of light, wind and water when
closed. The columns are designed in such a way that, thanks to the new
drainage system and the integration of the downpipes into the columns,
the water can be disposed of without any problems. The motor, as well as
all screws, are invisibly hidden, creating an appealing aesthetic. Imago also
demonstrates its high level of integration and flexibility with its many configurations,
including, e. g. Imago “Gourmet”, Imago “Feeling” Good and Imago
“Dreaming”. E. g. outdoor wellness areas, kitchens and bedrooms, enriching
the living space can thereby be created.
Italian design: Imago wins Red Dot Award
After a very careful selection, an international jury of 40 experts awarded
the renowned Red Dot Award in the category Product Design for its elegant
design and creative concept. “A very important award for us for this
innovative solution in the area of ‘living outdoors’ ”, explains Corradi Sales
Manager for the DACH and Benelux region Jan Van Moerkerke, and has
already become a real trendsetter. “We are particularly pleased that Imago
has been nominated for the R+T digital innovation award in the outdoor
category.”
Ease of assembly included
During the development of Imago, attention was naturally also paid to the
ease of assembly of the product in order to keep assembly times as short
as possible. Maintenance and service work should also be easy. “During the
development of Imago, we also considered the issue of training for specialist
dealers in order to create optimal conditions for consultation, planning
and installation”, adds Jan Van Moerkerke, “with our field staff distributed
throughout the region, we can thus create optimal conditions in the support
of our specialist dealers”.
Thanks to the adjustable slats, the play
of light and shade can be adjusted individually
according to the mood and
wishes of the user. The possible accumulation
of heat under the slats can
also be regulated by opening the slats.
LED lights can be integrated in the
frame module and the slat to realise
aesthetic and effective lighting. Laterally,
e. g. sliding shutters or wind resistant
screens can be integrated.
Dealer support through advertising campaign
To support the retailers, Corradi has developed a campaign in cooperation
with the Hoop advertising agency, with Imago at its centre. The flexibility,
adaptability and embodiment of infinite possibilities to create Imago are the
concept of the campaign “The best view Yours”. “The choice of communication
based on an unconventional narrative has always been a distinctive
feature of Corradi. In this campaign, too, we have specifically placed our focus
on our founder values: Creativity, exclusive tailoring and the flowing vision
of the outdoors: not just a space, but rather a place where everyone
can express themselves as they wish, without any restrictions, where the dimension
of the dream takes on meaning,” explained Sully Briskomatis, Corradi’s
Marketing & Communication Manager. —
SHADE SHADING SYSTEMS
One system, many solutions
With the Shade product, the Shadesign company from Bruckmühl brought a completely new
type of rollable sun awning onto the market in 2012. In addition to its dynamic design, it is
intended to appeal to customers with its simple operation and installation. The mode of operation
is as simple as it is ingenious; the fabric shaft is the heart of the system, with shaft the rollup
of the sail and the required fabric tension can be combined in an efficient manner.
_
“If the sail is unwound
from the fabric shaft,
through the rotation of the rope taper
the tension ropes are rolled up.
In this process tension ropes and
sail remain tensioned in every position.
Operation is quite easy and
within seconds the Shade can rollout
autonomously, roll-in via an operating
rope is accomplished just
as quickly and easily,” explains the
CEO Frank Reisenauer. “It should offer
an elegant solution for the quality-conscious
consumer with an affinity
for design who is looking for
smart shading,” he adds.
Up to 34.5 m² shaded area
Furthermore, the rollable sun awning
appeals to customers with its
versatile application possibilities. It not only
serves as a classic sunshade on the terrace, on
the balcony or in the conservatory (under-glass
version), but is also ideally suited as rain protection.
The system-related excellent wind stability
allows comparison with classical awnings,
possible maximum dimensions of 6 m in width
and 5.75 m projection; it thus provides additional
advantages when advising customers. The sun
awning has CE certification according to DIN EN
13561 and can withstand loads up to wind resistance
class 3. The requirements for rain protection
class 2 were far exceeded in the test procedure.
Last but not least, the system scores not only in
terms of design and range of application, but also
with its easy installation on almost any surface.
Whereas with a classic awning, massive leverage
forces are at work, making it considerably
more difficult to mount the awning on substrates
that are only just able to withstand the loads, this
is not the case here even with a 5.75 m projection.
In addition to the standardised column
for the stainless steel Shade variant, an
offset column and a height-adjustable
column are also available at extra cost.
Individual design
In addition to the standardised column for the
stainless steel Shade variant, an offset column
and a height-adjustable column are also available
at extra cost. This allows the membrane to be
lowered by up to 75 cm, which is a considerable
advantage when the sun is low in the sky and also
serves to control water run-off – even in the
heaviest rain. The range includes nine carefully
RENSON OFFERS THE EPITOME OF COMFORT, BOTH INDOORS AND OUTDOORS
Well protected in all situations
In sunny Bordeaux, indoor and outdoor life merge almost seamlessly.
But this also means that there is an additional risk of overheating in
the house. As Renson’s expertise covers both “outdoor living” and sun
protection, all measures in both areas could be perfectly coordinated in
this new-build villa: This resulted in a uniform appearance, but above all
in ultimate comfort for the residents, both indoors and outdoors.
_
Given the geographical orientation of the house, sun protection
was simply indispensable here, which the residents know
after three months in their new home.
But even with a living room facing directly south, it is still pleasantly cool in
the house even on very warm days thanks to suitable sun protection. Thanks
to the pergola in the garden, residents also have the choice of spending
their time indoors or outdoors, where it is most comfortable, all year round.
Effective sun protection
“We actually installed the entire Renson sun protection range here,” explains
installer Frederic Lacoste from Renson Ambassador Portaix Loisirs: “from Panovista
Max textile sunshades on the corner
sliding window (with zip fastener
without disturbing profiles or ropes
on the corner without support posts)
to loggia sliding shutters in front of
the windows to a fixed Sunclips canopy
over another window.” But however
different the measures may be, they
prevent the sun from making the interiors
of this well-insulated villa unbearably
hot in the same efficient way; by
blocking the sun’s rays even before they
reach the glass. According to the residents,
the result is impressive. The great
advantage is that both the screens and
the sliding shutters can be opened or
The Sunclips canopy above the windows
blends harmoniously into the
closed as required, depending on the
ensemble.
comfort or desired incidence of light.
Photo: Renson
Comfortable stay outdoors
The same goes for the garden, because in this area that’s where the owners
spend a lot of their time. To be able to continue doing this during heat
waves, the Camargue pergola is a godsend for them.
Thanks to the integrated screens and the rotatable slats in the roof, shade
and temperature can still be controlled. Another advantage is that in the
future you can spend time outdoors very comfortably even in the transitional
seasons.
“By the way,” the residents add. When using the whirlpool, the loggia sliding
shutters not only provide the necessary shade but also additional privacy,
which is another plus point.
“From the very first design of their
new house, the owners had a pool
house in mind. The Camargue terrace
enclosure with rotating slats by Renson
is completely in line with how
they had envisioned the pool house.
And the builder also likes the various
solutions for keeping out the sun.
The fact that the owners immediately
felt at home in their new house is the
best proof for me to be able to speak
of a successful project,” says architect
Christine Bouchard. —
SOFTWARE HOUSE ORGADATA AT “R+T DIGITAL”
Innovations in staccato style
Orgadata exhibits digitally at the first online version of Stuttgart’s R+T. Of
course, because at the software company, digital is in the company DNA:
For decades, Orgadata has been digitising window, door and façade construction
via the Logikal software. The all-rounder supports the processors
in all work steps.
Sebastian Bode emphasises the “new simplicity in CE marking”. He talks about the
Datasafe by the software company Orgadata, which the moderator will present together
with his colleague Dora Schneider during the online trade fair “R+T digital”.
The Datasafe is a brand new product by Orgadata that is not even available
on the market yet.
“The Datasafe has so much potential that we are dedicating a separate event to it
during R+T”, explains Bode. Another event is called “Logikal-Basics” and deals with
the basic skills of the software: Constructions of windows, doors and facades. For
example, it shows how easy it is to trigger offers directly from Logikal. The controls
of the CNC machines are just as much a topic as the interaction of Logikal
with other programmes. “Logikal-Basics” is aimed at processors who do not yet
use the programme.
Experienced users will get their money’s worth in the event “Logikal for experts”.
And they will be amazed: Because at the “R+T digital” it’s all about the upcoming
version Logikal 12, which will surprise with a completely new look and feel.
As a duo, Dora Schneider and Sebastian Bode
present Orgadata’s events at “R+T digital”.
Orgadata’s developers to come up with creative
solutions. Good for the LogiKal software.
Of course, update 12 also brings innovative tools to the offices and workshops
of the window construction industry. In staccato style, Orgadata will bring
these features to the screens. One after the other, there are innovations such
as supports for frame drilling or for all-glass corners on lift-and-slide doors.
The Logikal makers have also achieved a convincing feat with the new 3-D representation.
Particularly lively will be the presentation of Logikal MES, the production control
system that controls, digitalises and optimises production as an ideal complement
to the Logikal software. Lively because various window, door and
façade manufacturers report on their positive experiences with the solution in
front of the camera. Two of the focal points will be the topics “paperless production”
and “factory production control (FPC)” with Logikal MES.
The 15-minute events will run from morning to evening on all four days of the
fair. Orgadata will publish the exact schedule on its R+T platform. In addition,
online guests can contact Orgadata via chat at any time and make appointments
for further consultations.
SUN PROTECTION
LARGE UMBRELLAS
POPULAR LARGE UMBRELLA BY CARAVITA WITH NUMEROUS EXTRAS
The whole world of Big Ben
Photo: Gabion
The attractive professional Big Ben umbrella
by Caravita is a real all-rounder. In addition to
a wide selection of fabrics and colours, it offers
an equally diverse range of extras that enhance
its functionality. Whether on the terrace, in
the beer garden or by the pool, Big Ben meets
all the requirements for modern sun and
weather protection for the catering and hotel
industry or, if required, for the private sector.
_
Big Ben by Caravita transforms any outdoor space into a stylish
and atmospheric retreat. With more than 140 fabric designs and
over 200 frame colours, various shapes and sizes, it can be optimally adapted
to the ambience and becomes the unobtrusive focal point of the terrace
and garden. A contribution to sustainability is made possible by the acrylic
ProNature umbrella cover, which frees the air from pollutants. As the Big
Ben Freestyle model variant, the umbrella can also be individually tailored to
any structural challenge, even as a rhombus or star. In urban environments,
the shape can be adapted to wall projections. Large open spaces, on the
other hand, are covered by the umbrella with a span of up to seven metres.
Photo: Caravita
The mechanism of acrylic ProNature has been scientifically confirmed. Just 4 sqm of
the fabric eliminates the NOx emissions of a car with a mileage of 20,000 kilometres
per year.
Robust and wind-stable
Caravita grants a warranty of five years for its products over and above the
statutory requirements. Thanks to its robust frame made of high-quality aluminium,
it is also very wind-stable. An optional wind roof with its own
frame not only scores points with its interesting design, but also makes the
umbrella even more resistant to gusts of wind. The integrated telescopic
mechanism allows crockery and table decorations to simply remain standing
when closing, as the umbrella grows in height in the process and thus
closes above the patio furniture. The set-up aid is also particularly practical,
as it makes it much easier to set up the large umbrella. To do this, simply
screw the set screw into the ground sleeve, bring the umbrella into position,
put on the set-up aid and push the umbrella up. Now just screw it on
and the umbrella stands securely and firmly.
Many features possible
But Big Ben’s many qualities go far beyond its ability as an imposing
shade-giver. In hot weather, an optional misting system ensures pleasant
temperatures under the sunshade. The water pipes are inconspicuously integrated
into the mast and frame. With the optional Elegance lighting system
installed in the struts, it brings a gentle glow to the terrace. The LEDs
can be dimmed by remote control. Removable infrared radiant heaters provide
cosy warmth within a short time, even late in the year.
Motorised or stand-alone operation
There are two options for particularly convenient opening and closing of
the umbrella. With the optional WMS radio motor, operation
is convenient via hand-held transmitter. This means
that several umbrellas can be opened and closed at the
same time at the touch of a button. Alternatively, Big Ben
can also be equipped with a solar panel on the top of the
umbrella. After just three hours of sunshine, the lithium
battery is fully charged, thus ensuring independence from
the mains via remote control.
Photo: Caravita
Mounted in a row, can easily shade large areas in the
gastronomy.
Easy to move with a pallet truck, the outdoor area
can be transformed in just a few steps by using the
gabions for events.
Variety of seating
An original idea for creating additional outdoor seating are
the Multicube Gabions, which double as mobile umbrella
stands and seating to create a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
The robust steel baskets with freely selectable
filling – for example stones, wood or empty bottles – and
comfortable wooden support are the perfect advertising
medium. —
SUN PROTECTION
KE APPEALS TO CUSTOMERS WITH A MODULAR DESIGN
Visually successful
Photo: KE
Boadilla del Monte is a town located 25 km west
of Madrid on the Sierra de Guadarrama, much
appreciated for its elegant residential areas and
its proximity to the capital. The owners of a detached
house in the neighbourhood wanted to
create a new outdoor space that could be used in
all seasons and thus protect against the changeable
climate of the Spanish capital.
Advice and planning for the outdoor project was
provided by a KE specialist dealer, who suggested
the installation of the Gennius Isola 3 pergola
awning to the homeowners. The decision criteria
for carrying out the work was the modularity and
lightness of the lines and profiles of the Isola 3.
With its clear design, it can be adapted to any architectural
context.
The slightly curved roof made of waterproof PVC
fabric not only offers sufficient protection in all
weather conditions, but also high stability in rain
and wind. Operation is carried out with an app
on a smartphone or tablet, with which opening
and closing as well as the other features can be
undertaken. The Gennius Vertika
motorised vertical awnings
made of Soltis fabric provide
additional lateral protection
from the elements, while
the dimmable LED interior
lights inside the structure provide
the right atmosphere even
after sunset.
Two pergola awnings were installed
in the wall-mounted
version. With dimensions of
5.2 m × 6.5 m each, a total of
67.5 m 2 can be shaded without
any problems. The maximum
dimensions of the self-supporting system as a
one-piece version are 5.5 m width × 7 m projection
with 4 columns. The fully modular system offers
various design options, such as the construction
with indented supports. Dimmable white
LED strips in the gutter profile inside and dimmable
RGB LED strips in the gutter profile outside
Two Gennius Isola 3 pergola awnings with movable roof were used to
shade a total of 67.5 square metres of the terrace.
are optionally available. The Vertika vertical awning
with a width of up to 6 m is integrated into
the upright structure and is thus completely concealed
by the gutter profile.
Curtains inside or all-glass sliding doors are available
as a further option. The screw connections
are made with concealed stainless steel screws.
RADIUS DELIVERS SOLUTIONS FOR DIFFICULT CASES
Holds in any position
Photo: Radius
The “O-Fan” fan sail can be used wherever adaptable, flexible sun protection is
vrequired, such as with this corner solution with two awnings.
The “O-Fan” fan sail from the Swiss manufacturer Radius International AG can
be used wherever adaptable flexible sun protection is desired. If required, the
“O-Fan” can also be used as an aesthetic privacy screen. The fan sail is intended
to provide comprehensive sun protection on balconies, loggias or seating
areas of new or existing buildings, as a sectoral addition to awnings as a cantilever
or side protection, or for providing shade on mobile or fixed supports
(with or without base), etc. Due to the lightweight construction, the easy handling
and the specially designed insertion bracket, the fan sail can be used in several
places at once, if required, in order to cover different needs depending on the
shade desired or the course of the sun through the sky. Due to the good price-performance
ratio, simple installation, as well as removal without residues if required,
the installation of the “O-Fan” is also an interesting solution for the rental flat segment.
Thanks to the special holder, the fan, which weighs only 6 – 8 kg, can be easily
dismantled and used in any other location by clicking it into place.
Be it underneath a balcony, a wall or free-standing on a fixed or mobile support.
This also makes it possible to simply place the innovative sun protection in the dry
when required. The fan-shaped sail acts from a single attachment point, and
can be opened effortlessly without effort thanks to a built-in gas spring
and moved comfortably in all directions/axes with one hand thanks to the
built-in ball joint. The omega brake, which acts on the ball joint, allows the
“O-Fan” to be fixed in any position so as to shade whichever sector is desired.
The use of the fan sail is particularly interesting for awnings that have been
mounted at a 90° angle, and a classic shading gap is created. The fan can be
used here as a selective supplement to conventional awnings without much effort,
or to provide flexible sun protection in the first place.
SUN PROTECTION
MOUNTING FRAME
PERFECTLY COORDINATED PRODUCTS FROM HELLA
The zero-error system
_
Sun protection has become an essential
part of a building and is responsible
for providing well-being and comfort. Built into
the wall, however, the sun protection causes a
disruption to the usual construction method with
retrofitted sun protection systems. With TRAVIntegral,
planners can rely on a standard system that
not only delivers a clean solution to the problems
of sun protection. The interfaces are clearly defined,
the high degree of prefabrication minimises
errors during installation and shortens the assembly
time. The system saves time and money,
and significantly supports the zero-error principle.
The arguments were also convincing in the preliminary
judging for the R+T Innovation Award,
and were rewarded with a nomination.
Less time, fewer mistakes
The TRAVIntegral sun protection module clearly
defines the position of the adjacent components.
Once the mounting frame is mounted, the
façade work can begin immediately. This shortens
construction time and reduces construction
costs. The universal box offers room for various
types of sun protection, including the optionally
available insect screen. The circumferentially
insulated frame ensures that the guide rail always
drains cleanly onto the window sill and that
the window frame has a defined stop that is proof
against driving rain. It is also suitable for use with
surface-mounted and flush-mounted guide rails.
To order the TRAVIntegral, all you have to do is determine
the shell dimensions, order the windows,
and that’s it. Time-consuming planning and coordination
between the trades are minimised.
TRAVIntegral from the Austrian manufacturer Hella is the answer to a
hot topic for the installation of a wide range of components relating
to windows. This is not to say that defective components have been
installed on windows up to now. Unfortunately, however, problems
crop up time and time again due to a lack of coordination between
the different trades. In the end, weak points remain, and are ascribed
to incompatibilities of design. Appearance, costs, impermeability,
thermal bridges and the time factor all have to be reconciled.
The reveal system is supplied with integrated external Venetian blinds, roller shutters or ZIP. Optionally with pre-installed insect screen.
Second water-guiding level
The connection of the window sill in wooden
houses represents their Achilles’ heel. Therefore,
a second water-guiding level can easily be installed
on site to prevent continuous water ingress.
The window sill tested by ift Rosenheim
with the sliding closures enables professional
installation and also prevents plaster cracks on
the window sill. The two-part aluminium window
sill developed by HELLA is part of the reveal
system. The window sill, which is perfectly
adapted to the system, is supplied at no extra
cost and is part of the standard delivery. This
ensures that the installation of window sills in
conjunction with sun protection guide rails
complies with the generally recognised rules of
technology.
Precise installation of all products is guaranteed
thanks to the high degree of prefabrication at Hella.
Photo: Hella
Concentrate on the essentials
Due to the high demands placed on builders by
the BGB (German Civil Code), VOB (German Construction
Contract Procedures) or RAL guidelines, it
is all the more important today to be able to deliver
high-quality work. With the TRAVIntegral installation
frame, not only is the connection to the building
unproblematic, but also when combining windows,
roller shutters or sun protection, builders can
rely on the components supplied by Hella with a
high degree of prefabrication. This is because there
are no longer any discussions about deduction dimensions
etc., and all the necessary rules and regulations
can be complied with. This saves time, money
and reduces stress as well as, incidentally, also
significantly cutting the complaint rate. —
www.hella.info
Coordination errors between the trades are reduced to
virtually 0% through the use of mounting frames.
SUN PROTECTION
MHZ NOMINATED FOR INNOVATION AWARD
Innovations for special requirements
Photo: MHZ
Photo: MHZ
The privacy and sun protection manufacturer MHZ
Hachtel GmbH & Co. KG uses the virtual industry
meeting place to present a wide variety of modern
and high-quality sun protection systems for indoor
and outdoor use at the R+T digital.
TwinLine Venetian blinds offer a number of
advantages: As flexible privacy, glare and sun
protection, they are freely movable and thus an
alternative to pleated and honeycomb blinds.
In addition to the new vertical blind collection
and the TwinLine Venetian blind, which
is freely movable and can be operated from
above and below, the family-owned company
from Leinfelden-Echterdingen will also be presenting
insect screens, the zip_2.0 window awning,
metal blinds and the Solix battery-operated
external roller blind, which has been nominated
for the “R+T 2021” innovation award.
The Solix external blind not only reliably protects
against heat, but also inspires with its simple installation.
It can be easily inserted into the window
frame from the inside and removed again without
damaging the window - and all this without wiring.
Solix can optionally be equipped as a combination
product with a fixed fabric insect screen as well as
with a solar panel.
The external roller blind from MHZ convinces with its
simple installation: Open window, insert Solix, lock
corners, tighten screws.
The right sun protection ensures a pleasant indoor
climate as well as optimal lighting conditions and
thus contributes significantly to the quality of living
and working space. In terms of functionality
and aesthetics, products from the traditional Swabian
manufacturer are way ahead of the rest. Optical
and technical highlights make a visit to MHZ
can come
Photo: Roma
When the World’s Leading Trade Fair for Roller
Shutters, Doors and Sun Protection opens
its doors from 22 to 25 February 2021, as the
leading brand for sun protection systems,
Roma will of course also be part of the event,
The motto of the R+T digital trade fair at Roma is “The future can come”.
which will open its doors for the first time
in a purely digital format. At the virtual trade fair booth, the Bavarian-Swabian company with 40
years of experience invites trade partners and the public to experience the trade fair innovations.
_
Visitors to R+T digital can experience the new products and innovations
for roller shutters, external Venetian blinds and textile
screens conveniently and securely from their own office at the virtual trade fair
booth. The fair also offers an ideal platform for digital professional discussions.
Safety is “Priority 1”
The highlight of the innovations lies in the expansion of the application
possibilities of the integrated glass fall protection for Roma systems. Roomheight
glazing makes effective fall protection at the window essential. The
Burgau-based company has already introduced the glass fall protection system
in 2019, in which the glass mount is integrated into the guide rail for
sun protection. In addition, an insect screen can be integrated, which closes
at the top edge of the fall protection. Roma also supplies the edge protector
in the matching colour to the element.
Available for many products
The fall protection solution is available for front-mounted and top-mounted
roller shutters, front-mounted and top-mounted Venetian blinds, modular
Venetian blinds - as well as PURO 2.XR-zip/PURO 2.XRK-zip top-mounted
textile screens.
From spring 2021, it will also be available for zipSCREEN.2 front-mounted textile
screens and can thus be planned across all systems.
Personal video chats
Visitors to R+T digital can look forward to further innovations from the areas
of roller shutters, external Venetian blinds and textile screens at Roma’s virtual
trade fair booth. The innovations will be presented clearly in the auditorium
and by means of films. Even more personal is a video chat with the
expert advisors, who are already looking forward to the visitors. —
WAREMA PRESENTS EXTENSIVE INNOVATIONS
Something for everyone
Following its own “Sunlight Interactive” experience fair, the sun
protection expert from Marktheidenfeld is inviting specialist dealers,
window manufacturers, architects and the trade press to attend the
R+T digital from 22 to 25 February 2021. In addition to many product
innovations, guests can also look forward to an interactive exchange
with experts via a live chat function. Presentations in the auditorium
of the trade fair stand extend the range of what is on offer.
_
Warema is also taking part in the
extensive supporting programme
at the R+T digital, and is providing speakers
for the Gastronomy Day (22 February) and the
Smart Home Forum (24 February). On Thursday
(25 February), Germany’s largest architects’ congress,
ARCHIKON, will be supported by the sunlight
managers and will take place digitally on
the R+T platform. On 22 February, Warema will
take part in the final judging of the R+T Innovation
Award, in which it has been nominated with
the sound-optimised new-build add-on box in
modular design.
Harmonious façades:
Straightforward design
When it comes to sun protection, the focus today
is clearly on design in addition to effectiveness.
With its new Zetra Slat 80 Z, Warema is expanding
its portfolio with a product that fits
perfectly into the current cubic architecture. Its
straight slat geometry with a width of 80 mm
builds on the specifications of the proven 80
S slat and improves the properties of the previous
darkening slat. This also makes it an attractive
alternative for bedrooms. On the one
hand, it increases darkening by up to 25 percent
compared to the previous system when
closed. When open, it offers a significantly optimised
view through to the other side. At the
same time, reliable sun protection with excellent
daylight control is guaranteed by the concave
curved reflection surfaces. With its high stability,
the Zetra Slat fulfils another criterion expected
by customers. It has proven to be very robust
in tests and can withstand extreme wind loads
of up to 80 km/h.
The A 37 aluminium mini roller shutter curtain
replaces the previous A 36. The new roller shutter
profile enables improved winding and stationary
behaviour with optimum darkening
qualities. In addition to the proven standard design
with grooves, the A 37 profile will also be
available in a smooth look in the future. This is
right on trend and fits in with modern housing.
In addition, its design is very similar to that of
the external Venetian blinds with the new Zetra
Slat, and thus offers clear visual advantages
for installing both products on one building.
To complete the roller shutter portfolio, Warema
will in future also be stocking the K 37 plastic
profile as a smooth roller shutter curtain as
well as the A 44 and A 53 aluminium midi and
maxi profiles in grooved and smooth versions;
they are the perfect counterpart to the tried and
tested 80 S slat.
Warema completes the range for windows and
façades with the combination of Zetra and A 37,
so that a uniform appearance can be realised and
the highest design requirements are met.
nected by means of a magnet. This
way, the different product categories
can be shown individually or
together. The cases contain the latest
external Venetian blind slats,
roller shutter profiles and colour
samples in a high-quality presentation.
They are clearly sorted according
to price groups. The new Zetra
Slat and the new A 37 roller shutter
profile have already been integrated.
From the previous colour selection,
Warema has combined the
eight best sellers in white and
grey tones, which cover almost 90
percent of the market demand, in
the Selection category. These colours are available
for both external Venetian blinds and roller
shutters in all variants. With four matt colours
for external Venetian blind slats, Warema is also
picking up on the current “matt” design trend
on the façade, enabling an even more harmonious
combination with matt roller shutter profiles.
Rollo Pure for price-sensitive
contract business
With immediate effect, Warema’s Inside portfolio
made in Germany will exclusively serve the commercial
building sector with functional privacy,
glare and sun protection and will transfer decorative
interior sun protection for private residential
buildings within the group to the Anwis brand.
Through this focus, Warema intends to further
expand its core competence in the Inside segment
and continuously expand its range with innovations.
With its new Rollo Pure, the brand offers
an optimised product that perfectly meets
the requirements of the price-sensitive contract
business with high quality, flexibility and attractive
design.
The revised Rollo Pure range includes flexible
standard solutions with an excellent price-performance
ratio that are also suitable for retrofitting
commercial properties. Analogous to the Select
series, the range consists of sizes M, L and XL
with different shaft diameters. Size M has been
extensively revised and expanded. In addition to
the crank, it is now also available with the ball
chain and motor operating modes. The components
and assembly processes have been standardised
for the flexible use of different motors.
Warema has also reduced the fabric inset dimensions.
The L and XL series have been adapted
only selectively in terms of the motors used
and standard colours.
With its self-explanatory structure, the new collection supports
Warema partners even better in their consultation discussions and
focuses on design trends such as matt colours and smooth roller
For external Venetian blinds, Warema is introducing
the SenSigna early warning system to protect
against burglars, which reacts to unusual
movements of the external Venetian blind with a
loud signal. The acoustic alarm detects all movements
of the external Venetian blind and evaluates
them. If burglars tamper with the external
Venetian blind, they will cause atypical movements
that differ from those that occur during
normal use and weather influences. SenSigna
detects these and sounds a loud warning signal
of about 90 dB in the event of such an alarm.
This will prompt potential intruders to flee before
they can cause any damage to the façade.
It also alerts residents and the neighbourhood
about what is happening on the property. Sen-
Signa can be ordered as additional equipment
for new purchases of all common external Venetian
blind systems and slat geometries without
any planning effort.
On site, the signal transmitter, which functions
independently of the mains supply, can be inte grated
sabotage-proof and inconspicuously into a recess in
the bottom rail prepared at the factory.
Everything listens to a command
The flexible Smart Home system homee combines
numerous applications such as lighting,
heating or security of different
wireless standards. The user can
control these conveniently by
voice control, hand-held transmitter
or app. Warema is now
expanding the homee modular
Smart Home control centre
to include automated sun protection.
With the corresponding red
Warema cube, WMS can be easily integrated so
that users can conveniently control awnings or
roller shutters via homee.
The modular homee concept brings order to the
Smart Home world with its cube principle. The basis
is the white Brain Cube, which encrypts all data
and stores it locally. It can be expanded as desired
with additional cubes for the Z-Wave, ZigBee
and EnOcean radio standards. A new addition is the
red Warema cube for the WMS radio system, which
can control all intelligent sun protection products
from Warema. Possible applications are, for example,
outdoor blinds, roller shutters, Venetian blinds,
slatted roofs, as well as awnings with radiant heaters
and LED light strips.
Various sensors for temperature, brightness or
movement send the measured values to the Brain
Cube, which evaluates them and sends the corresponding
commands to the radio systems. The
different systems can not only all be operated via
the homee app or a voice control, but also via the
hand-held transmitters of each integrated manufacturer.
The WMS hand-held or wall-mounted
transmitter from Warema can also be used, for example,
to change the light colour or to control the
temperature of the heating. —
In addition to the proven standard design with
grooves, the A 37 profile will also be available in a
smooth look in the future. This is right on trend and
fits in with modern housing.
TECHNICAL TEXTILES
JENTSCHMANN HAS BEEN NOMINATED FOR THE INNOVATION AWARD WITH NONVI PIPING
Fabric fixation is written “big”
with the Swiss company
Jenschmann has long had a firm grasp of sewing, gluing and bonding fabric fabrics. Now,
specialists in the technical fabrication of awning covers have dealt with the mounting of the
awning covers on the awning frame. In doing so, they have developed a solution that offers
many advantages for new awnings, but also for new coverings, because the traditional fabric
fold-over at the upper and lower hem of the awning fabric can be dispensed with.
_
Since the new production technique eliminates the sewn fabric fold-over at the front profile, there are no more problems with leaking seams in this area.
The variance of piping types and the vertical awnings. Dietmar Heil, the owner of New coverings made easy
manufacturers’ philosophies regarding
which piping should be used on which awn-
team, and developed a technical innovation with
Jentschmann AG, has thought about this with his
ing are manifold. But there is one thing that all the NonVi (non visible) piping. For this purpose,
textile hangings have in common, such as awnings
etc.: There is a sewn fabric fold-over on inserted loosely into a hemstitch as is common
tabless piping is force-fitted to the fabric and not
the front profile and in most cases on the fabric
shaft. With its NonVi piping, Jentschmann AG profile that can be made of either soft or hard
today. This piping usually consists of a two-part
from Hüntwangen near the German border has materials up to a diameter of 8 mm.
created an innovation in which precisely this fabric
fold-over is eliminated, making significant improvements
possible in the area of the front profile
and the fabric shaft.
With NonVi, the
usual sewn fabric
fold-over at the top
of the shaft can be
dispensed with,
thus significantly
improving the roll-up
situation.
A completely new approach
Soft piping, hard piping, magnetic claw piping
or quick assembly piping. Many roads lead
to Rome here with a wide variety of results. All
piping shares two problems: thickenings on the
fabric shaft, which does not have a positive influence
on the winding behaviour, and a sewn
fabric fold-over on the front profile, which can
cause leaks and represents a visual problem in
Alternatively, a half piping profile can be used,
provided that the safety wrap on the shaft is
ensured. The fabric is folded over at the edge
and the piping half/halves is/are sewn onto the
folded-over edge of the fabric. The now friction-locked
piping connection disappears completely
in the piping groove of the fabric shaft
and/or in the front profile. This offers great ad-
Even with the piping sewn to the
fabric, there is a high degree of
flexibility in fabric handling. A
positive side effect of the new
covering is that the awning fabric
can be handled better.
The piping, which is mechanically
halved and sewn through the
fabric, creates a “seamless”
transition to the fabric, meaning
that the otherwise customary
fabric fold-over can be dispensed
with during fabrication.
The lack of fabric fold-over
creates significant advantages
when piping, especially in the
area of seam doubling due to the
connection of the webs, because
only two instead of four layers have
to be drawn in the piping profile.
1
vantages, especially in the area of new coverings,
when the piping has to be pulled in from the
front over the shaft. The lack of a seam fold-over
offers great advantages, especially in the area of
seam doubling through the connection of the
awning fabric webs, because here only two layers
of fabric have to be pulled through the piping
strip instead of the usual four layers of fabric.
Technical and optical advantages
Due to there no longer being any seam on the
front profile, the entire fabric is guaranteed to be
water-tight (glued in case of longitudinal seams).
Uniform transmitted light behaviour (no visible
seam) improves the look. When using the Non-
Vi piping on the fabric shaft, there are no changing
layer thicknesses. This ensures better winding
behaviour and eliminates the imprints that
are unavoidable today due to the layer jumps on
the shaft. If a hard material piping is used, this has
the advantage that a fixation can be produced
in the front profile. By precisely cutting the hard
With only one halfsewn
piping, NonVi
is ideal for use in the
area of new coverings,
because the piping is
done from the front.
material piping to length, the piping is prevented
from wandering between the end caps in the
front profile for both the articulated arm awning
and the vertical awning. Soft materials can
be stretched as required and fixed accordingly in
the piping lane. The result in both cases is a significant
reduction in wrinkling in this area.
Nomination for the
Innovation Award
The European patent application for the NonVi
piping was filed on 20.02.2019, thus also creating
the conditions for registration with the R+T Innovation
Award. The USPs of the product, such
as the uniform transmitted light behaviour (no
visible seam), the waterproofness over the entire
fabric (elimination of the seam perforation in
the visible area) and the long-term shape stability
(better winding behaviour), were convincing
points in the preliminary judging to be nominated
for the Innovation Award. —
WEINOR PRESENTS JOINT DEVELOPMENT WITH PARA AT R+T DIGITAL
New sustainable fabric collection
Sun and weather protection expert Weinor will
be presenting its latest products and services at
the digital industry trade fair R+T from 22 to 25
May. February 2021, among other things, the first
sustainable awning fabric collection: modern
basics blue. It consists of 85 % recycled PET, was
developed together with Parà
Tempotest and has already been
nominated for the R+T Innovation
Award. The modern basics blue
fabric collection is the central
innovation that Weinor is presenting
digitally to a trade audience
from all over the world at R+T.
_
It is made of Tempotest Starlight
Blue, a sun protection fabric from
Parà Tempotest certified to the Global Recycled
Standard (GRS). The major bonus: compared to
conventional polyester awning covers, modern
basics blue has a significantly better environmental
balance in terms of energy consumption,
CO 2
emissions and water consumption. 16 attractive
designs in contemporary colours make the
high-quality fabrics a modern accessory for the
popular outdoor living area. With the new collection
of fabrics, Weinor and its cooperation
partner also entered the R+T Innovation Award,
which is presented at the trade fair – with success,
as it was nominated for the final judging on
22 February 2021.
Sophisticated development
The modern basics blue awning fabric collection
from Tempotest Starlight blue delivers significant
savings potential with regard to the ecological
footprint: The recycling of disposable PET bottles
consumes approx. 60 % less energy and causes
approx. 45 % less CO 2
emissions. The spundyeing
process used saves an additional approx. 90 %
water compared to conventional yarn or piece
dyeing. With its product characteristics, modern
basics blue meets the highest standards and
thus offers the same high quality as the durable
polyester fabrics from the existing weinor fabric
collection with their permanently brilliant covers.
The recycled base material is food-grade PET, a
thermoplastic from the polyester family. The high
elasticity of polyester fabrics ensures the best possible
fabric stability. The memory effect causes the
fabric to bounce back better to return to its original
state. All fabrics in the modern basics blue awning
collection are certified according to ÖKO-Tex
SWELA WINS GERMAN DESIGN AWARD 2021
Faces: an award-winning outdoor fabric
Photo: swela
Sales Director Wouter Hof
is delighted that ‘Faces’
convinced the jury.
This is what winners look like: swela, a brand of Schmitz Textiles, has been honoured
at the German Design Award 2021 for its outdoor latex print “Faces”.
“We are delighted to receive the award and proud that we were able to
convince the jury of ‘Faces’ despite the Corona pandemic,” says Sales Director
Wouter Hof. As the decision-making meeting this year was held online, the jury
members were unable to hold the fabrics in their hands. They had to make do
with supplementary materials and photos. “We
congratulate and thank our design studio as well
as the technical development and production departments,
whose achievements convinced the
jury,” Hof praises the teams’ work.
swela is one of the leading manufacturers of sun
protection textiles, outdoor upholstery fabrics and
maritime fabrics. The Emsdetten-based company
sets benchmarks with the technical finish of its products:
They are dimensionally stable, easy to clean
as well as weatherproof, water-repellent, dirt-, grease-
and oil-repellent.
And the German
Design Award
2021 shows that the aesthetics are also convincing. According to the jury, the outdoor
fabric with the “Faces” print proves that latex prints with high light- and
weather-fastness offer new, creative possibilities for textile sun protection with
a hitherto unknown play on colours and shapes. "Faces" is one of fourteen designs
from the new latex print collection Motif, which will present at R + T digital.
The winner in detail
The “Special Mention” outdoor textile with latex print “Faces” in the Excellent
Product Design category creates a new look for awnings, parasols and sun
sails. The face motifs, reminiscent of the work of art icon Picasso, are applied
to the sunsilk filament-yarn basic fabric using the latex printing process in the
in-house print shop. The state-of-the-art process combines special UV-stable
inks with durable polyester fabrics. Explaining the reason for its choice, the jury
said: “This modern fabric exudes freshness and playfulness.”
SOLTIS VEOZIP IN DETAIL
Innovation for ZIP systems
Photo: Serge Ferrari
At the R+T Digital from 22 to 25 February 2021,
Serge Ferrari will be presenting numerous additions
to its Soltis premium range of solar protection
fabrics. With these new product launches,
the group plans to further expand its position
in the market for outdoor screens, both for commercial
construction and in the consumer sector.
The expertise from the entire process chain within
the group of companies (e.g. the development
of new yarns), an in-depth exchange of information
with external colour designers and the early
involvement of system manufacturers in the development
process, including comprehensive testing,
have been incorporated into the process. The
new Soltis range introduces solar shading materials
with a comprehensive performance spectrum
in terms of sophisticated design, outstanding convenience,
ease of use as well as reliability and durability
to meet the most demanding requirements
of planners, solar shading professionals and
end users.
Soltis Veozip is the first outdoor screen in the Soltis
range specifically designed for ZIP systems. A
new development for which the focus was on one
major goal: to create the best possible solar protection
fabric for ZIP systems, both for commercial
construction and for outdoor living - as façade
awnings or vertical awnings for roof terraces.
For this purpose, a technology tried and tested for
decades in the production of upholstery fabrics was
successfully adapted for sun protection: Batyline, a
special manufacturing method at Serge Ferrari in
Photo: Serge Ferrari
which high-strength polyester yarn is individually
coated with PVC and then woven. New techniques
were used to adapt the weaving pattern to the special
requirements for ZIP applications. Soltis Veozip
thus equips the fabric to absorb tensile and elongation
forces, while at the same time providing high
dimensional stability to ensure optimum winding
behaviour.
Sun protection and light incidence
Veozip is particularly powerful in reducing solar
energy and impresses here with superior values
across the entire colour spectrum (g e tot
≤ 5 %) and
this even in light colours (glazing type D - method
2 – g e tot
from 3 % to 5 %, depending on colour). In
addition, this new screen fabric from Serge Ferrari
combines unprecedented outward visibility with
excellent anti-dazzle properties.
Ready for anything, even the wildest storm
Thanks to a special weave structure and specially
developed and manufactured high-strength polyester
yarn, Soltis Veozip meets the most demanding
requirements placed on a ZIP system today
(homogeneous tension, absorption and stability
when exposed to wind).
Perfect tension
The fabric is impervious to wrinkles. The membrane
always adapts optimally to the system environment
by absorbing uneven forces and deformations
which inevitably occur with repeated use. The
A completely new developed sun
protection material especially for ZIP
systems
Façade awnings made from Soltis
Veozip for a library
The new fabric convinces with particular transparency
for side awnings for roof terraces as well as high light
transmission and dazzle protection
fabric retains the ideal tension - no rippling along
the lateral guides, no creasing across the running
direction. This ensures a perfect look and longer life
of the zip screen without compromising on dimensional
stability.
Design plus with colour palette
The use of “Canatex yarn” (a technology patented
by Serge Ferrari, with integrated hemp fibres) ensures
unique transparency and a particularly natural,
textile look. In addition, this technology is responsible
for outstanding properties in terms of
sun protection and light incidence, for example by
significantly reducing glare effects caused by the
reflection of sunlight. The colour palette for this
collection, with 15 shades, was also developed by
Anne Emery, partner in the trend consultancy “Aujourd’hui
ou Mardi”. Anne’s aim was to create RAL
colours which could be perfectly combined with
the most common tones in wood design and reflect
the latest trends from the home building, hotel
and restaurant industries. To facilitate colour
selection and provide inspiration for customers,
the collection is presented in five attractive colour
worlds: Tropical, Raw, Elegant, Pure and Spicy. Another
strength of Veozip is that it is easy to handle
without the risk of changes in the fabric during
processing or installation. The polyester yarn
offers greater flexibility and eliminates the risk of
nicks and stress whitening when the fabric is folded,
or reduced performance due to creasing or less
than ideal winding. In addition, the upper and reverse
sides of the fabric are exactly identical to
avoid processing errors.
PREMIUM QUALITY IN EVERY FIBRE
Valora – light, strong and waterproof
The “light and waterproof quality” among the Sattler fabrics has so much to offer
and feels at home in a wide variety of systems.
Sattler attaches great importance to a constant and lively exchange with its
customers. Understanding the needs and requirements of the system manufacturers
for the fabrics helps the Graz weaving mill to make the right decision
for a new sun protection quality right from the development phase.
This close connection to the market has led to Valora being developed for
the specific application on pergola systems: “The particularly light, spundyed
acrylic yarn ‘SPA’ (Smart Performance Acrylic) used for Valora not only ensures
a denser weave compared to the known qualities, but is also characterised by
outstanding product properties,” explains Franz Schimpfhauser, Managing Director
of Sattler SUN-TEX GmbH in Kassel. A 20% higher thread density in warp
and weft as well as the unique fabric appearance due to an increased number
of weave points and the ripstop structure provide more flexibility in the fabric.
“The weight is also impressive: This new, coated quality has a basis weight of
only 275 g/m² – an enormous product advantage when every gram that a system
has to carry counts,” adds Schimpfhauser.
The special IPC coating not only makes the fabric waterproof, but it can also be
fabricated by gluing, making the fabric more supple. Therefore, the new fabric
is ideally suited as sun protection for pergolas and parasols, but it is also suitable
for a wide range of applications where light weight, outstanding outdoor
quality and 100% waterproofness are required.
Neher sees great potential in this product in the retrofit sector.
The installer on site does not have to worry about electrical
connections/installations, but can simply and quickly
install the pre-configured element “out-of-the-box”. A new
radio-controlled 12 V high-speed motor is supplied with
power via a solar module developed by Neher. The solar
module in RAL 7021 is pre-mounted on the roller blind box and wired up to
the motor. Operation is via the new radio hand-held transmitters, which have
already been programmed at the factory. The solar module charges the integrated
battery even in indirect sunlight and allows at least 50 upward and
downward movements directly one after the other without the motor’s thermal
protection being tripped.
Pleated blind PL2 even larger
The pleated blind PL2, which is only 22 mm in width, has been one of the fastest
growing products in the product portfolio since its market launch. It is now also
Beautiful, robust and already
awarded: the coated Robustec
stainless steel mesh for light well
covers.
available as a double-leaf version with sizes up to 5 × 3 m. Further optimisations
in the design and materials reduce friction, increase operating comfort and ensure
a longer service life. With the new fabric holder (patent pending), even very
large elements can now
be realised in a durable
manner. With the Neher
PL2 pleated blind,
the fabric does not
stand on the bottom
track or rub against the
tension cords, which
ensures much easier
and longer-lasting operation.
It also increases
the fabric retention
in windy conditions.
Robustec stainless
steel mesh
The specially developed Robustec powder coating for V2A
stainless steel mesh is particularly abrasion-resistant and
matches all shades of grey perfectly. The high-quality, homogeneous
optics prevent dazzling light reflections in sunlight.
The fabric also undergoes less deformation due to higher stability.
This is especially important for products that are frequently
walked on. It also remains permanently beautiful because
it is insensitive to flash rust and contact corrosion. For
all these product advantages, the Robustec fabric was awarded
the German Design Award Special.
DRIVES AND CONTROLS
WHISPER-QUIET ROLLER SHUTTER AUTOMATION
RolMotion sets a new standard
Whether children, employees or guests in the office, hospital, hotel or conference room,
suddenly rattling shutters are often perceived as a nuisance. The drive and control manufacturer
elero provides the remedy: With the RolMotion product range, a drive for
roller shutters with particularly quiet operation has been developed. “The drive series
will appeal to customers with a whisper mode that moves the roller shutters exceedingly
quietly in slow running
mode. Especially in single-family
and multi-family homes and
on public sector properties, this
is pleasant for the users and increases
living comfort,” says
Managing Director Enzo Viola.
Like a rustle of leaves
The drive has two different application
variants. In standard
mode, roller shutters are moved
at the usual running speed.
There is the whisper mode for
times of day and situations in
which particularly quiet running
is advantageous. In this
slow running mode, the opening
and closing of the hangings
The particularly quiet running behaviour of elero Rol-
Motion increases living comfort and is a real plus in
many situations.
are barely audible: Instead of an already quiet 45 decibels in standard mode, RolMotion
only causes 35 decibels at slow speed – comparable to the sound of rustling leaves.
Whisper mode is always activated in the radio version in automatic mode, but can also
be switched on manually simply by pressing a button.
Radio or wired
The product range is available as a wired solution or with radio technology. Like the Rol-
Top range, RolMotion has obstacle and blockage detection function as well as soft start
and soft stop. As a result, the drives work durably and reliably. This is underlined by elero’s
7-year material guarantee for RolMotion.
As usual, the drives can be installed and adjusted quickly and easily. It is even less complicated
with the D+ variant with plug ‘n’ play. With the wired solution, it is possible to
select whether the whisper mode is activated via a keystroke or via a double-click. This
enables optimal use in automatic mode. The wireless version can also be integrated into
the company’s own home automation solution, Centero Home.
New “EnOcean” variant
An “EnOcean” variant has also recently been launched on the market. Thanks to the use of
the very common radio standard, RolMotion EnOcean can be integrated into a wide range
of applications in building automation and Smart Homes. The drive can be controlled via
battery-free and wireless transmitters, switches or sensors that draw their energy from
movement, temperature or light. As the control is thus independent of electricity or batteries,
it requires less maintenance and is very flexible. Elero has already been nominated
for the R+T Innovation Award for the intelligent roller shutter drive. Further information
about the innovative drive system is available from elero at www.elero.de/silentmotion.
TOP BOXES
ROLLER SHUTTERS
ALL-ROUNDER FROM DUOTHERM
Top box without compromise
Photo: Duotherm
Fresh air supply and noise protection: Up to now,
when it comes to top boxes, this has usually meant
“either/or” - especially as it is important not to neglect
thermal insulation. Now, however, having to
compromise is passé. Because with the Thermo
NB, DuoTherm has developed a box for new buildings
that does everything really well.
As a rule, central ventilation systems are used in
new buildings to ensure optimum air circulation.
Supply air often enters the living and working spaces
through wall openings or window rebate ventilators.
In recent years, however, the demands on construction
have risen continuously: In addition to a
coherent ventilation concept, thermal insulation
and soundproofing have also become increasingly
important. A topic that also comes into play when
installing privacy and sun protection systems.
Typical top boxes for roller shutters or external
Venetian blinds quickly reach their limits here,
The Thermo NB has a multi-stage
ventilation and sound insulation
system. Two sound absorbers
catch sound waves, while the labyrinthine
airflow refracts them.
This means that the top box covers
both areas well - with excellent
thermal insulation at the
same time.
because they cannot cover all the
above-mentioned areas equally well.
Therefore, if builders or owners want
privacy or sun protection, they have
to reach a decision when choosing
from standard boxes: Do they want a
permanent good supply of fresh air,
or do they attach more importance to
excellent sound insulation - with high
thermal insulation in both cases?
Multi-level approach
DuoTherm has developed the Thermo
NB specifically to achieve very
good results in all areas. With regard
to air circulation, the supplier
from Nettersheim-Zingsheim relies on the proven
fans manufactured by Aereco. The fan is installed
in a slot milled in the box. This slot also
has a shaft with a plaster cover.
For sound insulation,
however, a multi-stage
system is used. First of
all, the box is equipped
with high-quality sound
absorbers. They are
made of a special, openpored
material and positioned
at two points
inside the box in such
a way that they absorb
sound waves very effectively.
The Thermo NB comes as a complete package, can be plastered over and
thus becomes one with the façade. It is suitable for roller shutters as well
as external Venetian blinds and can be retrofitted either internally or
externally.
Optionally, the Thermo NB can also be equipped
with a labyrinthine airflow. This system ensures
that sound waves are redirected and refracted several
times, but without impairing air circulation. In
combination with the sound absorbers, an R w
value
of up to 42 decibels is guaranteed - with adequate
thermal insulation and fresh air supply. The
Thermo NB is also suitable for passive houses due
to its insulating properties.
DuoTherm has thus not only developed the first
top box for new buildings that is connected to the
window via clip technology, but also that combines
sound insulation, thermal insulation and
fresh air supply in a balanced manner and offers
excellent values, certified by external inspectors,
in all areas.
MORE SAFETY WITH MAN RESCUE FOR ROLLER SHUTTERS
Quick emergency opening in
the event of a power failure
Photo: Selve
In the event of an emergency, seconds count.
With an extremely fast and at the same time simple
solution for the 2nd escape and rescue route is
now attended to by Selve. MAN Rescue clears the
way in just two seconds: With the emergency operating
system, a motorised roller shutter can be
The patented MAN Rescue emergency operating
system is installed in the head piece of the roller
shutter box like a conventional drive bearing. In
an emergency, it clears the way for motorised roller
shutters to the outdoors - simply by pulling the belt.
opened manually by
belt in the event of a
power failure.
The installation of this
patented escape route solution
is absolutely simple, it is installed
like a conventional drive bearing
in the head piece of the roller shutter box. “The
system combines several advantages,” says product
manager Dirk Wrobel: “It is intuitive to operate,
can be reset to normal operation by the user
himself and is completely maintenance-free.” After
extensive testing and field trials, sales to the first
selected customers will start in the first quarter
of 2021. The clever concept – the combination of
an electromechanical drive bearing with a belt for
the emergency opening of a motorised roller shutter
– comes from Tobias Piening, managing director
of Rollladen Piening. Why complicate things
when they can be completely simple and self-explanatory?
This credo is followed by the new manual
emergency operating system by Lüdenscheid,
which, thanks to its installation,
handling and
convincing functionality,
is not only simple, but simply
good. MAN Rescue provides
more safety as an extremely
fast escape route solution with a har-
partnership.
The brilliant product idea came from a long-standing
Selve specialist partner who patented his innovative
invention. “Normally, Selve is known for developing
new items and special applications for its
specialist customers itself. In the case of MAN Rescue,
we have developed a technical customer solution
further and improved it even more,” reports
Georg Hein, a graduate engineer in the design and
development department. As project manager, he
was responsible for all further steps concerning
MAN Rescue: from the modification of the first prototypes
to various adaptations to the market-ready
product.
SPIRAL DOORS
DOORS & GATES
Photo: Alpha Deuren
_
New and reinforced roller holders, rollers and hinges make the current version
even more robust and low-maintenance than the predecessor model.
Thanks to the new features, Helix is now even more robust and
requires less maintenance. At the same time, customers benefit
from improved service. The new-version Helix spiral door has been available
at the same price since the beginning of September. It can be retrofitted
to the predecessor model.
Perfect combination
The Helix spiral door from Alpha Deuren in Didam, the Netherlands, has
combined two systems since its market launch in 2015: As a high-speed
door, it can be used during the day and at peak times. With opening times
of up to 1.1 m/s per second, it is a real vertical starter and thus the ideal door
system for applications where frequent operation is required, for example
in logistics centres. On the other hand, thanks to the micro-profiled 40 mm
ISO panels, the Helix door transforms into a robust and superbly insulating
sectional door for situations where maintaining temperature is important.
Helix also has a special spiral track system with very small installation dimensions.
The intelligent drive system with rotary chain technology eliminates
the need for weight compensation with tension or torsion springs, which
are also vulnerable. This makes Helix both space-saving and low-maintenance.
With its compact design, the Helix spiral door is particularly suitable
for rooms with low installation depths. Its areas of application are logistics,
the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, the metal and electrical
industries, food processing and the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
Update achieves 40 000 cycles
As part of the update of the Helix spiral doors, newly reinforced roller holders,
rollers and hinges were installed. These ensure that the current version is
now even more robust and requires even less maintenance than the predecessor
model. Whereas parts previously had to be replaced after 20 000 cycles,
this is now only necessary after 40 000 cycles. This means lower maintenance
costs. The new parts are compatible with the old version of the Helix door.
ALPHA DEUREN: HELIX SPIRAL
DOOR RECEIVES AN UPDATE
Perfect “two in one”
solution
Since its market launch in 2015, the “Helix”
spiral roller door from Alpha Deuren has
been a sought-after two-in-one solution for
a wide range of industrial sectors. This is due
to the fact that it combines the advantages
of a high-speed door with the robustness of a
sectional door. Now the Dutch manufacturer
has extensively revised the product.
Safety first
Great emphasis was also placed on safety in the new edition of the Helix
spiral door. The light barrier travelling in front of the gate edge detects obstacles
immediately and ensures that the drive stops at once. This happens
so quickly that there is no contact between door and obstacle. Telescopically
extendable sensors or light grids integrated in the track system provide
non-contact monitoring of the main closing edge. The door leaf has a
thickness of 40 mm and a U value of 1.77 W/m 2K (for door size 5 × 5 m with
ISO panels). Slender ALU sections are available as glazing elements on request.
With the service kit for quick and smooth repair of the runners, the
Dutch company fulfils a wish frequently expressed by customers. The previously
vertical running tracks on the door were replaced by split vertical
running tracks especially for this purpose. The lower section corresponds to
the height of the three lower panels, as these are often hit in the event of a
collision. The built-in plastic and metal clips can be dismantled so that the
chain guide can be removed and the repair completed in a short time. The
service kit contains plastic and metal clips, service tool, chain guide block
and the lower section of the track (left and right). The Helix service set is also
attractively priced, plus it takes less time to replace the spare parts. —
www.alpha-deuren.nl
With opening times of up to 1.1 m/s, the Helix door ensures smooth traffic flow at
busy entrances, for example in logistics centres.
