Algal bloom
warning lifted
The algal bloom health warning issued
for Lake Pegasus on November 30 has
been lifted by the Canterbury District
Health Board’s community and public
health unit.
Recent water testing at LakePegasus
has shown the quantity of potentially
toxic bluegreen algae (planktonic
cyanobacteria) has reduced and
concentrationsare now below levels that
would be of concern to public health.
Canterbury medical officer of health
Dr Cheryl Brunton says sampling of Lake
Pegasus will continue weekly in summer.
“The public will be informed if testing
shows thatconcentrations have
increased and there is arisk to public
health again,” she says.
