Fun challenges for children<br />

Budding young farmers are set<br />

to feature at this year’s<br />

Kaikoura A&P Show.<br />

The Harcourts Future<br />

Farmers’ Competition is being<br />

introduced this year to<br />

encourage school­aged<br />

children to get involved in the<br />

show.<br />

‘‘The idea is to have aseries<br />

of challenges such as asack<br />

race, an egg­and­spoon race,<br />

gumboot throwing and bestdressed<br />

farmer, which will be<br />

added together to give the<br />

competitor aseries of points,<br />

designed to choose the best<br />

future farmer,’’ secretary Laura<br />

Page says.<br />

The competition will be open<br />

to local children across three<br />

age groups: under 7years, 7to<br />

9, and 10 to 12.<br />

The event will run at 10am<br />

next to the main marquee.<br />

For those who fancy<br />

themselves as Robin Hood,<br />

Bullock Road Bows from St<br />

Anaud in the Nelson region will<br />

be back at the Kaikoura A&P<br />

Show this year. Bullock Road<br />

Bows proved popular at last<br />

year’s show, giving participants<br />

ataste of archery.<br />

Gates open at 8am for the<br />

108th annual Kaikoura A&P<br />

Show at the South Bay<br />

Racecourse, with tickets $5 per<br />

person, with children under 5<br />

free. Parking is free.<br />

4pm: Produce shed closes,<br />

exhibitors to collect items.<br />

Prize money to be collected<br />

fromthe secretary’s office<br />
