In theChinese social network there has been unfoundclaims that mRNA-based vaccine could alter humanDNA. Such apprehension could adversely impacton vaccine rollout in Australia hence could deferfreeing us from Covid bondage due to developmentof vaccine hesitancy.Obviously there is a generation gap ofviewpoint among the ethnic minorities. Chinahas been keen in influencing the life of Chinesecommunities aboard with the aid of Chinesesocial media to the extent of affecting the societyand security of Australia. If Chinese here do nothave faith in vaccine locally available but preferChinese ones, would that be acceptable to the localmainstream society? Indeed this also happens inother ethnic communities. There are old ItalianAustralians who are loyal listener of radio from Italyrefused to take on Astrazeneca due to knowing thetemporary suspension of the vaccine in Italy. There are speculations that the purpose ofspreading such misinformation is to heighten thefailure of the Western world in combating thepandemic, or maybe as a further blow to theireconomy comeback by holding up wide-rangingvaccination.This may not be proved but it is asituation that Australians need to address. The Australian government need tocounteract by better informing the ethnic minoritycommunities. An attempt to do it right back onWeChat cannot be easy because the platform isunder tight surveillance/control by the Chinesegovernment with their massive propaganda team.I think it is more effective for better educationand promotion be done through local communityplatforms of the various ethnic minorities. Onlythrough this avenue the Australian government candispense uninterrupted and accurate Covid updateto the multicultural communities.ISSUE 631CONTENTS 6-10 15-18 24-26 10, 22-23 DisclaimersThe views and opinions of authors expressed inSameway Magazine do not necessarily state orreflect those of the publisher.
