Friday 9th April 2021
The news this week is that there is no news. We had expected Nicola Sturgeon to talk about travel
but that didn’t happen. The latest information that I have from my sources is that travel within
Scotland will happen on 26th April, and more than likely to include the UK as well. We expect
confirmation of this from the First Minister on 20th April. On Monday 12th April the UK Global
Task Force will give their recommedations on international travel, but these may not be adopted in
full by Scotland. We will all be watching with interest.
Please remember that prior booking and payment is still required, and must be made along
with supplying all the names of the players in your group. You can read the full list of rules and
guidelines here.
William G “Bill” Grant
Very sadly at the end of February Bill passed away at the age of 90.
A member since the early 70’s he had enjoyed many years of golf in
Dornoch and had attained Life membership for his commitment to the
Club. Our thoughts and condolences go to his family and friends.
Captain’s Invitational
May 21st to 23rd - This will be going ahead as planned although as yet
we don’t quite know just how many of the current entrants will be able to
join in until we get clarity on national and international travel restrictions
as per my note above.
All Open events from May onwards will take place and you can find the
details on when entries open, and how to enter, here https://royaldornoch.
com/golf-competitions/open-competitions.
Annual Subscription Renewal
Payment was due by 1st April and if you have not paid then you are
no longer an active member. There is a grace period in which to make
payment and so if we receive it by 30th April then your membership will
be reinstated at the current level.
No payment by the end of April means that you will have to reapply for
membership.
You can pay by credit card or cheque, or online via the Members Area by
following the instructions here.
Our preference is CREDIT CARD as receiving and banking cheques
isn’t straight forward in the current lockdown situation.
World Handicap System
At this stage whilst we are encouraging the use of the App, it is still an
option so if you need any help or wish to enter a score or competition and
aren’t yet “App ready” please do not hesitate to contact Andrew Skinner
on andrew@royaldornoch.com
We continue to receive General Play scores, some electronically via the
App and others returned manually via andrew@royaldornoch.com. This is
good to see and we encourage more of this so that your handicap index
is relevant to your current form.
The issues are diminishing but we still come upon new ones as we get
the system, and our members, fully operational, and some of these can
be dealt with in house and others may require us to take advice from
Scottish Golf for which we appreciate your understanding and patience.
Golf Courses
Winter arrived back this week with a snow covering on Monday and Tuesday, frost on Wednesday and the
forecast for the weekend is not looking great either. On the Struie Course the team have been back to removing
whin roots and then planting Marrum, apart from the area to the right of the 9th fairway which is to be turfed. We
have also been removing a few more trees between the 5th and 6th and small areas of bushes at the sides of
the fairways have been strimmed out and collected. We have also removed some bushes to the left of the 10th
tees to open up the views of the Dornoch Firth. We did have a small break in the weather on Thursday, so this
opportunity was taken to cut the Championship Course greens, surrounds, tees, fairways, rake the bunkers,
divot the tees and the holes were also changed on both courses.
WHITE TEES - These are now back on both courses. Normal rules for their use apply.
PREFERRED LIES - The last day will be today (Friday 9th April) and therefore from tomorrow (Saturday 10th
April) you must play the ball where it lies.
PIN POSITIONS - These are now available. We will not be giving out paper copies so you can access them by
downloading the App by following this link http://www.mypinpointgolf.com/ or there will be a copy in the Pro Shop
window that you can take a photo of.
Please remember to look for PITCHMARKS on every green and repair as many as you can.
The Course Manager’s expanded report is posted on the Members Facebook page and on the Newsletter page
of the Members Area of the website.
