world first
Field Days are back – and
Victoria’s Farm World
event did not disappoint.
Andrew Hobbs dropped by
to see what was on offer
The Multi 5 will suit many
large herd applications,
feeding lots of bales and
where time and efficiency
is important.
As Victoria inched its way out of COVID-19 restrictions in
March, talk around the traps was that things weren’t looking
good for field days – that big exhibitors were pulling out and
crowds were staying away.
But for Farm World, held at Lardner Park outside Warragul in late
March, organisers were turning people away.
Literally – as capacity restrictions meant only 7,500 people were
allowed through the gates on any one day – which meant visitors
were turned away from 8:30am on Sunday when ticket sales
reached that number.
About 450 individual exhibitors set up stalls for the three-day
event. Here are some of the highlights.
LEMKEN SOLITAIR 9 SEED DRILL
Available as either a mounted rigid or folding version, the
Solitair 9 pneumatic seed drill can be used in a wide range of
applications and with various cultivation methods, and available
in 3–6m widths.
This 3.5m version of the seed drill has a Solitair 9+ 18,000-litre
hopper with an electronic metering units, meaning seed rates
can be set at between 1.5 and 300kg/ha for sowing different
types of seeds.
A double disc coulter system sits at the back with a press wheel,
meaning pressure can be adjusted easily, and a hydraulic coulter
lift means operators can lift the coulters off the ground and still
operate the power harrow.
MCINTOSH MULTI 5 BALE FEEDER
Following the award-winning Multi 4, McIntosh’s Multi 5 is
1,300mm longer than its predecessor, enabling it to feed out five
silage or round hay bales at a time.
The Multi 5 comes with McIntosh’s strong and easy-to-use bale
loading system, with its heavy duty 12,000 pound (5,443kg) roller
feed chains and high torque hydraulic motors.
Its rugged construction, dual side feeding capabilities and low
centre of gravity design mean the Multi 5 will suit many large herd
applications, feeding lots of bales and where time and efficiency
is important to them.
KUBOTA M5111 STANDARD TRACTOR
Part of Kubota’s new M5-1 ROPS (roll-over protective structures)
lineup, the M5111 has a 110hp (82kW) engine and can hit a top
speed of 39km/h, with a hydraulic pump capacity of 64L/min and
an overall weight of 3,270kg.
The M5-1 ROPS tractors are designed to fill a gap in the market,
offering higher horsepower at lower speeds to ensure greater
fuel efficiency.
Its short height – at 2,650mm – also makes the tractor more
practical for different jobs, says Kubota.
BOBCAT T76 COMPACT TRACK LOADER
The recently relaunched Bobcat R-Series of skid steers and
compact track loaders have longer wheelbases and track
