The <strong>University</strong> Library was started in the Year 1955 with a small collection of 6,700<br />
books taken from the <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Venkateswara</strong> College, Tirupati, administered by Tirumala Tirupati<br />
Devasthanams. The present library building was declared open in July 1964, by Dr. S.<br />
Radhakrishnan, the distinguished Philosopher and the then President of India. The <strong>University</strong><br />
Library, centrally situated and easily accessible to all the Departments in the campus has<br />
steadily grown over the years and it has today 3,43,061 documents. The Library serves<br />
the information needs of students ,research scholars, teaching faculty of the eight constituent<br />
campus Colleges of <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Venkateswara</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Non-Teaching Staff of the <strong>University</strong><br />
and Deposit Borrowers numbering around 8,000. The Library subscribes to about 382<br />
current periodicals of national and international importance.<br />
In order to provide better service to the users of the library, the huge and perennial<br />
growth of its collection has been arranged in such a manner that books and back-volumes<br />
of journals on Science and Technology are housed in the newly constructed extension<br />
building and books and back-volumes of journals on Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities<br />
are housed in three floors of the stack area of the library building. Readers will not find any<br />
difficulty in locating the documents of their choice.<br />
In order to achieve functional efficiency, the library is organized into 10 different<br />
sections. They are :<br />

The library follows Open Access System in all the wings of the library. The books are<br />
classified following Dewey Decimal Classification scheme and catalogued following Anglo<br />
- American Cataloguing rules. The library maintains three types of catalogues as follows.<br />
