UGC - SVU CENTRE FOR MST RADAR APPLICATIONS
The Mesosphere, stratosphere and Troposphere (MST) Radar is established as
a National Facility at Gandanki, about 35 Km from SV University. The Radar is a
sophisticated, state-of-the art ground based instrument for middle and upper atmospheric
research. MST Radar provides unique observational data to carry out frontline research
in atmospheric sciences. The MST Radar can be used to study middle atmospheric
dynamics, turbulence, jet streams, gravity waves, troposphere - stratosphere exchange
process etc. Considering the importance and potential of MST Radar for atmospheric
sciences, UGC created a Centre for utilisation of the MST Radar Facility by all the Indian
Universities through S V University, Tirupati. The Centre is known as UGC - SVU
Centre for MST Radar Applications. The centre is accessible to scientists and researchers
from Indian Universities working in the area of atmospheric sciences especially with
references to MST Radar. The centre is also supported by the Department of Space,
Government of India.
UNIVERSITY SCIENCE INSTRUMENTATION CENTRE
The Centre was started as a Central facility for hobbies (Hobby Centre) and
Workshop practice (Central workshop) in the year 1959. The status of the Centre was
elevated to Central Instrumentation and Services Laboratory by the UGC. The present
status of USIC level II was attained in 1984. University Science Instrumentation
Centre(USIC) is a non-vacation academic department functioning as a centralized
Instrumentaton facility for the benefit of various departments on the Campus and at times to
the needy local educational institutions outside the campus also.
Friends of SVIMS Society honoured the Centre for the fabrication of a cautery tip
suitable for an important Brain Surgery unit of SVIMS. The centre also conducts national
level training programmes in Instrumentation in collaboration with the Western Regional
Instrumentation Centre, Mumbai.
A Self Supporting M.Sc., course in Instrumentation has been sanctioned for the
centre during the year 2005-06.
‘‘Every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life are
based on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I
must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I
have received and am still receiving.’’
‘‘I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought,
but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.’’
‘‘The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.’’
‘‘The ideals which have lighted my way, and time after time have given me new
courage to face life cheerfully, have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth. The trite
subjects of human efforts, possessions, outward success, luxury have always seemed
to me contemptible.’’
‘‘Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life
on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet.’’
