SRI VENKATESWARA UNIVERSITY Academic Calendar 2008-09 Academic Calendar 2008-09 SRI VENKATESWARA UNIVERSITY Issue of Certificates ❖ Special Camp Certificates are issued to the volunteers who have been involved in the camp for 10 days with Programme Coordinator's and Vice Chancellor's signatures. ❖ Bonafide N.S.S. Certificates are given to volunteers who have been involved in general regular N.S.S. for 2 Years ❖ For volunteers who attend National Integration Camps, Inter State Camps, Inter Camps on deputation, are given University certificate by the organisers of the camp. These certificates are given priority II and considered in P.G. admissions. Benefits In P.G. Admissions, M.B.A., M.C.A. and other courses there are reservations (5%) under E.C.A. Quota for N.S.S. Volunteers on par with N.C.C. & Sports and cultural activities. Mr.R. Srinivasulu Naidu, Co-Ordinator 2289-213, (R) 2243980 NATIONAL INTEGRATION SAMITI (NIS) The Samiti is founded to promote a sense of unity through creation of awareness and appreciation of the diversities in our country. Its goals are : ❖ to create among students an awareness of history, culture, traditions and customs of the people of various parts of India; ❖ to encourage students from other regions acquire sufficient knowledge of the region to which university belongs; ❖ to promote goals through lectures, discussions, seminars and conferences. The samiti is constituted with the members of University and local colleges in Tirupati. NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC) B.Tech. Students of S.V.U. College of Engineering can join NCC (Air Wing) which is situated in the College premises. The NCC programme consists of 40 parades each of two hous duration in a year. The programme mainly deals with 75% technical classes and 25% drill classes. The parades are generally conducted after college hours and also sometimes during Sundays and holidays. After the successful completion of training for 2 years in NCC, the cadets are eligible to appear for ‘B’ Certificate Examination and after the completion of the 3rd year of training in NCC, the cadets are eligible to appear for ‘C’ Certificate Examination. The incentives for NCC Cadets are: 1. Reservation in Jobs 2. Direct entry into the service (Army, Airforce and Navy) without prior training 3. The best cadet based on certain merits will be given an amount of Rs. 1,000/- on the Republic Day Celebrations. S.V. UNIVERSITY GUEST HOUSE S.V.University Guest House was inaugurated in the year 1973. It has all modern amenities. The Guest House was renovated during 2002. At present it has 15 AC double rooms and 6 Non-AC double rooms. It is the major supplier of consumer goods to hostels attached to the S.V. University, Agricultural College, Veterinary College and all institutions within the radius of 16 KMs to S.V.University. University Alumni Association (SVUAA), earlier known as The Old Students’ Association (OSA) of S.V. University College was founded in 1958 by the first batch students on the day of the first Convocation of Sri Venkateswara University. The S.V.U. Alumni Association is not-for-profit organization and it is registered under Societies Registration Act, XXI of1860 with registration no.474 of 2003. The Association has been granted tax exemption status u/s 12A of Income Tax Act,1961 and donations to the Association attract 50% tax relief u/s 80G of Income Tax Act (IT Commissioner’s Order:H.Qrs.I (216)/CIT/TPT/2006-07 dt.23-3-2007). The Primary purpose of S.V.U. Alumni Association is to engage in charitable and educational activities by raising funds for setting up Endowments, creating scholarships, alumni awards, and student merit prizes and extending financial and medical support to poor students, rewarding teaching and research and generally promoting the development of resources at S.V. University, Tirupati. SVU Alumni Association also aims to strengthen the ties, friendship and communications amongst former students, current students, faculty and friends of S.V. University. It provides a platform for people to stay connected with each other and S.V. University. The activities of SVUAA at Tirupati are managed by the Executive Committee elected and / or nominated to a term of two years by the statutory body of the Association. College of Engineering has an independent Alumni Association. It was started in 1965. Most of the old students of the college are members of the Association and all the out-going students are eligible to become members of the Association. The business and affairs of the Association are managed by an Executive Committee.
