SRI VENKATESWARA UNIVERSITY Academic Calendar 2008-09 Academic Calendar 2008-09 SRI VENKATESWARA UNIVERSITY DIRECTORS ON THE CAMPUS There are Six Directors in the campus to facilitate coordination between the univesity and the principlas & constituent colleges, the Heads of the Departments, the Chairmen BoS, the Faculty and any other functionary to ensure smooth administration, quick and efficient delivery of services to the student community. The duties and responsibilities of the six Directors are mentioned below against each. Director, Academic Affairs 2289-470 i. To take steps necessary for the preparation and finalization of the revamping of the curriculum under the Choice Based Credit System by involving the concerned Chairmen of BOS and the faculty members from time to time since CBCS demands continuous updating of the syllabi from Semester to Semester. ii. To identify the Subject Papers which are being offered in duplicated form in different courses and suggest remedial action to optimize the use of human resources. iii. To act as an effective liaising official between the University and Principals of all the Seven ‘Colleges in the implementation and continuous monitoring of the Choice Based Credit System and initiate effective measures for its effective functioning. iv. To identify the snags etc., if any, well in advance and take effective steps to resolve the same. v. To interact with the faculty members, Heads, Chairmen BOS, Principals and University officials etc., in the matters relating to the CBCS. vi. To Co-ordinate with the Academic Calendar Committee as and when it meets. Director, Coordination 2289-521 i. Monitors various responsibilities assigned by the Honorable Vice-chancellor ii. Updates various developmental activities in the University. iii. To oversea the improvements of infrastructural facilities like Seminar Hall, Library facilities, Computer facilities and such others. iv. To deal with the problems requiring coordination between different departments and University administration. v. Examines students representation on various matters. vi. Conveys to the University authorities suggestions and inputs for developments and act as a liaison between the University and the University Community at large. vii. Coordinates with the University authorities, Principals of various constituent colleges and other officials depending on the issue, matter, or problem concerned. Director, Students Welfare & Cultural Affairs (Prof. B.V. Muralidhar) 2289-334 i. Runs a HELPLINE for the students of the constituent colleges of S.V. University Campus. ii. Directs the letters of the students who have specific grievances, problems, complaints and issues relating to class work, attendance, teaching, award of marks, hostel problems and other such campus issues to the Officers of the sections concerned. Director, Community Development (Prof. R.C. Hanumanthu) 2289-384 i. To involve the departments /Centers of University more actively in the community development programs. ii. To identify the villages for adoption by the University for overall development of the villages. iii. Criterion has been formulated for selecting a village for adoption includes socioeconomic backwardness, basic education, health awareness, agricultural problem, communication problem, ,sanitation, old age rehabilitation of old age physically handicapped widows, violence against women, utilization of resources etc. iv. Coordinates with the district revenue administration for effective implementation of the rural development programs designed by the Government. v. Coordinates with Principals of the constituent Colleges of S.V. University, University Officials and Affiliated College Principals. vi. Interacts with various service organizations - both governmental and nongovernmental - and obtains some funding projects. vii. Designs and formulates a major research project involving various departments / centers relating to the community development and to submit to the DST (Science and Society Wing) for Financial support. Director, Research Affairs (Prof. S. Buddhudu) i. To identify the potential research areas of various departments and coordinate with the Principals of all constituent Colleges of S.V. University in applying for different research projects approaching various funding agencies. Also coordinates with faculty and the University authorities to submit project proposals for funding. 144 Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships By perseverance the snail reached the ark 145

To monitor the progress made in research projects sanctioned to the faculty members and research scientists from time to time. iii. To encourage and motivate the research scholars to secure fellowship from the UGC, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DST and other funding agencies. To train them to get qualified in the NET, JRF, GATE exams. iv. To coordinate with faculty members for MoUs from prestigious Universities/ Centers/ Organizations both in the country and abroad. Director, Human Resource Development (Prof. V. Chandramouliswar Rao) 2289-372 i. Coordinating between the University and the Heads of the Institutions relating to the maintenance and updating the centralized data bank pertaining to the faculty and non-teaching staff of the University Constituent Colleges including the P.G. Centre, Kavali. ii. Proposals relating to the training needs and up-dating of skills of personnel (Teaching & Non-Teaching). iii. Recreational opportunities to the personnel like planning half-yearly social meets with the Vice-Chancellor providing personal audience and scope for social interaction. iv. Any other work that may be entrusted by the Vice-Chancellor from time to time. Director, Hostel Affairs i. To coordinate between the three campus hostels. ii. To maintain, uniformity in respect of policy decision covering the campus hostels in respect of hostel charges collected from boarders and infrastructural development. iii. Director, Hostel Affairs shall be the member of the hostel purchase committees of all the hostels of the constituent colleges. The wardens will bring to the notice of the Director, Hostel Affairs any problems if his coordination is required. Director, Hostel Affairs will be the convener of the wardens council headed by the Rector. iv. To attend to disciplinary problems involving students and/or hostel staff. v. To maintain peace in the campus hostels by effective intervention between the boarders and college / university authorities whenever there is disturbance. vi. To keep in continuous contact with the wardens / chief wardens to promote a healthy academic and social life in the campus. vii. To see that transparency is followed in accounts and expenditure chart for every month is displayed in the notice board at the messes. viii. To encourage sports, games and cultural activities in the hostels. The Director, Hostel Affairs will make use of the office of S.V.U.C. Hostel for women, for his correspondence, meetings, if any, with the help of the warden, S.V.U.C. Hostel for women. SERVICES ON THE CAMPUS NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS) Sri Venkateswara University carries rightly the pride for being one of the pioneering institutions in implementing the N.S.S. in the country. It was introduced during 1969-70. Starting with 300 volunteers, it has grown into a mighty programme with about 40,000 Volunteers for regular NSS and special camping programmes. Objectives ✦ To promote personality development among students through community service. ✦ To instil a sense of discipline among students ✦ To make students physically fit for nation building activities. ✦ To direct students energies to right causes. ✦ To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude. ✦ To practice National integration. NSS Centre The NSS Bureau and NSS Seminar Hall are located at NSS Bhavan near the Administration Building (Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy Bhavan). NSS Programme Officers 260 NSS Programme Officers are there in Engineering, Degree and Junior Colleges of S.V. University area. Admission Students who wish to join NSS should apply to the Programme Officer concerned in their respetive Colleges. Activity NSS volunteers will have the following activity ❃ 120 hours of service during an academic year ❃ They have to work on Sundays and evenings to complete this target service. ❃ One special camp in a year during vacation. ❃ Volunteers are provided with refreshment whenever they work. 146 Responsibility is the price of greatness No army can withstand the strength of an idea whose time has come 147
