SRI VENKATESWARA UNIVERSITY Academic Calendar 2008-09 Academic Calendar 2008-09 SRI VENKATESWARA UNIVERSITY The Library has four reading halls with a seating capacity for 400 readers at a time. Members are provided with tickets for borrowing books from the Library. Each Post- Graduate student is given 3 tickets and each Research Scholar 5 tickets. The borrowers can keep the books for fourteen days only. If the books are not returned within the prescribed period, a penalty of 10 paise per day for each book will be collected. Besides book lending service, the Library offers Reference Service, advice to Readers and Inter-Library Loan facility. The UGC has provided access to about 4,435 E-Journals and Databases under its UGC-INFONET Programme to SVU Library. The students, Research Scholars and Faculty members can access these E-Resources in the digital Library. The process of digitizing Ph.D. and M.Phil. theses awarded by the S.V. University is in progress. So far about 1,201 Ph.D. theses have been digitized and this can be accessed through the website http://library.svu.ernet.in. S.V. University is the first state University in the country to digitize Ph.D. and M.Phil. theses. The total automation work of SVU Library is in progress and so far databases for back volumes of 2,591 Journals and 2,970 Ph.D. & M.Phil theses have been created and the database for books is in progress. The Library is kept open for readers between 8.00 A.M. and 8.00 P.M. on all working days with transactions at the circulation counter except on Sundays and Holidays, on which the Library functions from 10.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. for study and consultation purpose only. UNIVERSITY HEALTH CENTRE S.V.U.Health Centre was established in 1962. It is a service oriented mini-hospital extending free medical service to the students , research scholars and employees of S.V.University and their dependent family members like parents and unmarried children, retired employees and their spouses and guests and visitiors to the University. The total population covered is about 20,000. The average daily out-patient strength of the centre is about 250 per day. The Health Centre (Out-patient counter) works as follows: On all working days 7.45 A.M. to 10.45 A.M. 4.00 P.M. to 6.00 P.M. Sunday and other public holidays 7.45 A.M. to 10.45 A.M. The list of all the students admitted into various courses is forwarded to the Health Centre along with their photographs. Each student is allotted a Health Centre identity number for his/her treatment as out-patient. All the commonly used drugs prescribed by the Health Centre Doctors, X-ray, ECG and Clinical lab services are given free to students. In-patient facility is also available. For in-patient students, boarding facility is made available from their respective messes. Day scholars, however, have to make their own arrangements regarding food. Besides, Specialist Consultant Services in the specialities of General Medicine, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Dental Surgery and Radiology on prior appointment are available as follows. 1. Physician : 5.00 P.M. to 6.00 P.M. (Monday & Friday) 2. Surgeon : 10.30 A.M. to 11.30 A.M. (Mondays) 3. Opthalmologist : 5.00 P.M. to 6.00 P.M. (Tuesday & Thursday) 4. Dental Surgeon : 5.00 P.M. to 6.00 P.M. (Wednesdays) 5. Radiologist : 5.00 P.M. to 6.00 P.M (Monday & Thursday) A student has to produce his/her identity card when he/she visits the Health centre for medical services. 116 A friend in power is a friend lost If we don't end war, war will end us 117

Under this fund, a student is eligible for maximum of Rs. 10,000/- for certain treatments. Blood donation campus are organized now and then with active co-operation and involvement of students. Admission Hostel accommodation is provided to the students who get admission into B.Tech. / P.G. / M.Phil. / Ph.D. / Integrated Courses subject to availability. On showing the fee receipt, the Hostel office will issue application form. The hostel authorities will allot room to the student after all formalities are completed. Each Block is provided with electricity meters and the charges will be shared by the inmates of the respective Blocks. 2. Accommodation & Dining Halls a. Admission does not automatically entail accommodation in the University Hostels. Only limited accommodation is available in the University hostels for Men. Admission to hostels will be made as per rules in vogue. b. Accommodation cannot be provided in the University hostels to any student who is a native of any area within 20 kms radius of Tirupati. c. Hostel accommodation will not be provided to those who wish to pursue another P.G. course or those admitted under self-supporting courses or payment/sponsored category. There are eleven Blocks viz. Apart from these, each block is provided with Telugu and English news paper, competitive news etc., so as to enable the students to appear for various competitive examinations. During vacation, however, all students should vacate the hostels. No electrical appliances such as heater, electric stove etc., should be used in hostel rooms.
