Purpose:<br />

The Refugee Settlement Support Service isanewly established service in<br />

<strong>Ashburton</strong>. Its purpose is to provide support and assistance toquota refugee<br />

families who are resettling in <strong>Ashburton</strong>. This service will assist with the early<br />

settlementneeds of former refugees,asthey slowly establish their new lives in<br />

<strong>Ashburton</strong>. Ouraim istoassistfamilies to achieveindependenceand become<br />

active participants in our community. In this role you will be working with<br />

Afghan/Hazara refugee families as they embark ontheir new journey and life<br />

in New Zealand adjusting to anew cultureand environment. This is an exciting<br />

opportunitytobepartofthe Refugee SettlementSupportTeam.<br />

TheIdeal candidate will have the following key attributes:<br />

• Experienceincoordinating volunteer programs<br />

• Knowledge and understanding of refugee resettlement, or other relevant<br />

cross cultural experiences<br />

• Abilitytobuild,sustain and actively manage relationships and networksof<br />

people<br />

• Excellentoraland written communication skills<br />

• Excellenttime managementand people managementskills<br />

• Ability to learn and relate appropriately with different cultures (this<br />

includes dress codes,religious practices etc.)<br />

• Empathy with humanitarian causes<br />

• Haveknowledge of confidentialityand privacyact practices<br />

• Haveadvanced computer skills,including Excel, Word, email and database<br />

systems<br />

• Hold acurrent motor vehicle driver’s license and willing to travel tofulfil<br />
