1.2. CHILDREN CLUB ENTERTAINMENT
GENERAL
We offer a big variety of kids orientated entertainment
programs.
Children can participate in our activities – but they do
not have to. They can join and leave at any time (Minis
(3-6 years) have to dropped off and picked up by the
parents/guardians).
TUI MAGIC LIFE has international guests and emphasises
on individuality. Each child is an individual, which is
precious and loving, but nevertheless has its certain
particularities. It is our duty, to make each child happy.
We do not differentiate between background and
language. Each child will get our fullest attention.
We impart holiday feelings, affection, joy, trust and
MAGIC Moments, but also limits.
What are the characteristics for a good Kids entertainer?
Happy, friendly, creative, these are only a few characteristics
for a good Kids entertainer.
Obviously we are responsible, always helpful, spontaneous
and a little crazy. We discover the child in our
inner self. We are children ourselves, but take care of
them at the same time. We are there for the children,
but also for the parents. Most important, we maintain
the overview at all times.
A really good children’s entertainer is characterised by
many features.
What do children parents and maybe also the hotel
expects from me?
n Capture the children, i.e. approach them in an open
and spontaneous manner
n Arouse the children’s curiosity, motivate the children
and respond to their needs
n Changing phases
m Searching – lingering
m Excitement – relaxation
m Individual – group
m Movement – quietness
n Listen to the children and take them serious
n Respond to the children’s interests
n Follow the recurring theme at highlight days –
create an exciting program for the complete day
n Always talk to the children on eyesight, particularly
when welcoming them (maybe in a squat position)
n Explain time to children not in minutes but in activities
n Establish group typical actions such as a battle cry,
a secrete language, a secret greeting or secret signs.
n Be attentive and give the children the feeling that
they are important to you.
n Be trustworthy to the parents.
n Radiate self-assurance and security.
n Radiate reliability and trustworthiness.
n Consider children’s diversity and age.
n Always be friendly and funny!
n Address the children personally.
n Create rituals (Tidying up song, snack time song,
morning circle, dance, and many more).
n Trust in the children and let them work independently.
n „Hilf mir, es selbst zu tun“ – (a quote by Maria
Montessori)
Enjoy what you are doing, then the children and
parents will enjoy it, too.
IMPORTANT:
Children entertainment is of great importance
at TUI MAGIC LIFE. The well-being of the
child is top priority.
A happy child is synonym for happy parents. It is
very important, that the entertainer is dedicated
and responsible when carrying out the day program.
However please do not forget that preparation
work is required, too.
n Arrange the Children Club in a friendly, practical and
child suitable way.
n Decorate your programs accordingly
n Prepare all required material before the program
starts.
n Craft material is prepared in advance, not only when
the children arrive.
n We know what we wish to do during the program,
but also have alternatives. There is always a plan B
in your head.
n We know some games to fill gaps in-between.
n The location for the program has been determined
and checked beforehand (I.e., is it available, are
there any safety defects? Can we be easily found by
parents and children?)
n Do I have drinks for the children available? Where
can we get a drink?
n In order to attract attention, events should take
place outside, but most of the time, in a shaded
place.
The better you are prepared the more secure you are
and the more you will enjoy it!
Kids & Teens Club Manual 9
1.3. SUPERVISORY DUTIES AND
LEGAL ASPECTS
General information relating to supervisory
duties:
During the programs you automatically take over the
supervisory duties for children and teenagers. Liability
exclusion is not possible. Declarations of consent and
registration forms will not exempt from the supervisory
duties, however they are proof for a responsible handling
of afore mentioned and thus are essential.
Transferring the supervisory duty from the primary
carers (parents) to the entertainer is confirmed with
the registration form. Differentiation between Minis,
Kids, Youngsters and Teens is required.
Supervisory duty includes the following
aspects:
1. Do not create any dangers yourself
2. Remove any existing dangers
3. A preventive instruction and warning relating to
potential risks that cannot be removed.
4. Supervisory shall be appropriate to the situation
and the child /children
5. Interference from case to case
This specifically means: Do not create any dangers for
those to be supervised!
Supervisory duty includes two protective
purposes:
n Protection of those needing supervision (child), in
order to prevent that it hurts itself or will be hurt by
third parties.
n Protection of the community, in order to protect
third parties from any harm that might be caused
by the children.
Playing on a playground with unsecured play equipment
or playing hide and seek directly on the beach are
examples for negligent behaviour.
n One needs to be able to realise and assess foreseeable
dangers and undertake all reasonable efforts in
order to avert damage.
n The particularities of the local environment need to
be known, including safety of building and grounds,
emergency exits, safety of play equipment, first aid
material etc.
n Depending on the age, stage of development,
characteristics and personal condition of the child
the corresponding risks that might occur related to
the individual event need to be discussed once or
several times with the children and you need to
make sure that the children understand it.
n The kids entertainer always need to be informed
about personal conditions of the children – swimmer
or non -swimmer, allergies, illnesses, handicaps,
physical skills etc. (directly stated in the registration
form)
n The Kids Club entertainer needs to know at all times
where the children entrusted to them are.
n Keep the overview of the amount of children participating
(i.e. determine with the children, that they
inform you before they leave, when they do not
wish to participate in the program anymore, i.e.
by giving a high five.) Should the parents of a kid
(7−12 years) do not want that the child walks by
itself through the club grounds (see registration
form), have a special look at this child.
n For special events, mainly outside the hotel facility,
parents need to give their explicit approval for the
participation of their children in this event (see form
written approval)
n The amount of supervisors will be increased for
beach events for the Mini group (maximum 10 children
for 1 entertainer). Events outside the hotel can
only be offered for kids only if the amount of supervisors
can be granted and risks can be excluded.
Please confirm with entertainment manager / supervisor
– who might consult with the head office. In
TUI MAGIC LIFE we are not allowed to offer Events
outside the hotel except our Teens Mountainbike
Tour.
Control questions referring to supervisory
duty:
1. Do I have sufficient information, where the children
entrusted to me are?
2. Did I take sufficient precautions in order to protect
the children?
3. Did I do everything in order to prevent any damage?
This means, a changing situation has to be reassessed
and the control questions need to be asked again.
10
Kids & Teens Club Manual
Size of groups:
All relevant and important information with respect to
the group sizes and the entertainer to child ratio might
be obtained by your Kids Club Chief or supervisor.
Participating at the Mini program:
It might happen that parents ask you if an under three
year old might participate at the Children Club program.
Unfortunately, this is not possible for insurance reasons.
You can use this explanation for the parents. However,
you can offer as an alternative that one parent comes
together with his child to the Children club and either
plays with the child himself or joins the program. It
is important though, that the program will not be disturbed.
Rules for bathing with children:
It always has to be considered which age group (Minis
or kids) is concerned:
1. We are never bathing with kids in the sea. For beach
events like Olympic Games at the beach it is ok to
have the feet in the water, but maximum until the
knees. All circumstances at the beach need to be
considered in this case, i.e. a gently shelving beach
or a steeper beach. Of course, bathing or swimming
in the sea is possible when the corresponding
parents participate in the event.
2. Kids can only go in the pool when accompanied by
an entertainer. At the best the entertainer is outside
the pool and oversees the situation. Should any
dangerous situations arise, which might be caused
by carelessness or not listening of the children, the
bathing fun can also be ended by the entertainer.
3. Safety first! Security questions:
m Can all children swim?
m Have rules been determined clearly with the
children?
m When does it get too much? How much fun is
being tolerated, when is getting dangerous?
m Where can I get help?
m Is a mobile phone available, if a doctor is needed?
4. All Minis go only swimming in the kids’ pool. They
need to be able to stand in the water.
5. If possible, organise water wings for all Minis. Especially
at this age group jealousy is quite big, when
the more experienced swimmers do not need to
wear water wings anymore. Additionally it offers
some more safety, as the children are often not
completely reliable swimmers yet.
6. It is always necessary that one entertainer is
standing outside the pool having the overview.
7. Same security questions apply, as determined in
point 3.
8. The parents should be informed, and individual
swimming skills should be considered. How strong is
the child, how far can it swim?
Liability:
According to §828 BGB (civil code) minors are not liable
for a damage. From the age of 7 onwards it depends on
the responsibility of the child / teenager in each individual
case. In case of intent or gross negligence a children’s
entertainer might be made liable for damage. In
case of slight negligence, the operator generally takes
over liability, as the entertainer is entrusted with a very
hazardous duty, namely the supervision of minors.
Anyhow in case of damage a form prepared by the travel
guides of the TUI Service AG needs to be completed
(damage report). Breech of the supervisory duty might
involve disciplinary measures (reminder, warning or
notice).
1.4. FIRST AID FOR CHILDREN – CORRECT
BEHAVIOUR IN EMERGENCY CASES
Set the case that despite all precautions an emergency
occurs, you should be well prepared. Even though it is
difficult: First of all keep calm!
Under no circumstances hesitate to render first aid. Do
not be afraid to make a mistake. The following measures
are always correct, no matter which emergency occurred:
n The permanent control of vital functions: Check
breathing, pulse, conscience and responsiveness of
the child.
n The emergency call: Hotel doctor
n Keeping the warmth: Take care that the injured child
does not get too cool.
n Psychological support: Make sure the injured child
feels not alone.
Continue these actions until emergency services arrive.
It is important that these measures are carried out in a
certain order. The rescue chain developed by specialists
ensures a quick rescue and treatment of the child. If
Kids & Teens Club Manual 11
you keep up to the individual steps you will make
every-thing right.
Lifesaving emergency measures
n Secure the scene of accident, the child and yourself
in order to prevent any further damage
n Get the victim out of the danger zone
n Stop life threatening bleeding and treat the shock
(shock position)
n In case of respiratory arrest apply rescue breaths to
the child
n In case of a heart attack give cardiopulmonary
resuscitation
Emergency call
When you call emergency services you should provide
the following information to the control centre:
n What happened?
n Where did it happen?
n Which injury respectively illness can be recognised?
n How many injured or ill persons are there?
n How old is the child?
Do not hang up immediately when you have given
this information. Wait for possible questions from the
control centre.
Swallowing
Should a child choke from swallowing do not pat its
back. Hold its arms high, in order to stretch the upper
body. The gorge will open automatically and the swallowed
up items becomes free. Should a bigger piece get
stuck in the throat, try to carefully take it out with your
fingers. Immediately inform a doctor. Suffocation risk!
Recognise respiratory dysfunctions
Respiratory dysfunctions at infants can be recognised
by an irregular respiratory rate or unusual breathing
sounds. Also retracting the chest and a blue coloured
skin, in particular the lips are clear signals for shortness
of breath. The reason for this shortness can have many
reasons.
Swallow: A foreign object in the respiratory tract
Reason: Child choked on something, a drop, small fruit
or nuts or other small parts.
Symptoms:
n Coughing, retching, vomiting
n No airflow despite strong breathing activity
n Disturbed consciousness
First aid in case of choked foreign objects
Tapping technique
n bring the child’s upper part of the body in a low
position
(i.e. lie the child over your knee)
12
n tap several times with the hand between the shoulders
n regularly check the vital functions
n emergency call if required
(tapping technique for infant and child, also see
www.kindernotfalltraining.de)
If the tapping technique is not sufficient, apply the
secret handgrip:
n Bring the infant in head down position, look for
pressure point
(lower third of the breastbone) and press 2 cm
deep, 5x, 2 seconds
n Child: bend the upper part of the body to the front,
and hold from behind with both arms, put the fist of
one hand in the upper part of the body and grasp
with the other hand, now suddenly press 5x upside
backward
(if necessary change between 5x tapping method
and 5 x secret handgrip)
n Important: The hand grip can hurt the child and
shall only be applied in acute danger of suffocation
and if there is no residual breathing anymore. Then
have the child examined by a doctor immediately.
Infection in the oral cavity
Reason: Infections might lead to swelling of the mucous
membranes in the oral cavity and thus to shortness of
breathing. Typical is the Krupp syndrome (swelling of
the mucous membrane in the larynx and the upper trachea
area, often diagnosed at children under 3) and the
infection of the epiglottis. Infants can be vaccinated
against this infection.
Symptoms:
n Shortness of breathing
n Whistling breathing noises
n Pale to bluish colour of the skin
n Rapid pulse
n in particular for the Krupp syndrome: hoarseness,
barking cough, temperature, cold
n in particular for the infection of the epiglottis: very
sudden appearance, influence on speech, high temperature,
problems with swallowing, salivation
First aid measures for infections in the oral cavity:
n position the upper part of the body in an upright
position
n provide cool, humid air (i.e. from the fridge or
bathroom with running shower)
n keep the child’s warmth
n possibly cortisone suppository (prescribed by the
doctor)
n in case of high temperature and swollen neck
emergency call
Asthma attack
Reason: An asthma attack can be caused by allergies,
typically by pollen or animal hair. But also infections or
Kids & Teens Club Manual
physical or psychological efforts can cause an asthma
attack.
Symptoms:
n Acute shortness of breath
n Fear, unrest
n Problems breathing out
n Different breathing noises
n Blue coloured skin (lips)
First aid measure in case of an asthma attack:
n Position upper part of the body in an upright,
slightly bend forward position
n Ask child to slowly breath out with pointed lips
n Apply asthma spray if available
n Let the child breath humid, fresh air
n If required emergency call
Sunstroke
Direct sun on the unprotected head can lead to a
sunstroke. Avoid direct sun with children, mainly in the
time from 12.00 until 15.00. Never forget head and sun
protection.
Symptoms: Strong headache, sickness, light sensitivity
Measures in case of a sunstroke:
Guide the child into the shade. The upper part of the
body should be positioned slightly higher; due to the
headache lying flat might not be convenient. Place cold,
wet cloth on the forehead.
The child needs a rest between 1 and 3 days. If it is still
in pain, you need to call a doctor in order to bring relief
for the pain and infection. Should there be really serious
symptoms like disturbed consciousness or cramps
call the emergency.
ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES
Bruise, contusion or fracture
If you realise a strong swelling, strong pain and limited
mobility at the injured child it might be a fracture.
Cool the swollen part of the body and immediately go
to the hotel doctor.
Small bruises: need cooling
Laceration: Stop the bleeding with some pressure and
immediately go to the doctor.
With which injury of the head do you need to go to the
doctor?
It can generally be said that if one of the following symptoms
are determined you should go and see a doctor
or take the child to hospital:
n Unconsciousness after the accident
n Disturbed consciousness
n Strong headache or vomiting
n Bleeding out of the ear
Shock positioning & co
First aid are measures that are applied on place before
the injured or ill child gets medical treatment.
Please have in mind that there are some situations
where it depends on you, if a life can be saved. Please
be prepared for the following measures:
Shock positioning
If the child shows symptoms of shock like:
n Rapid, flat pulse
n Paleness
n Cold, sweaty skin
n Shaking
n Disturbed consciousness or unconsciousness
there might be the risk of lack of oxygen which can
be fatal.
Try to remove the reason for the shock, i.e. stopping a
bleeding. Position the child in the shock position, laying
it flat on the back and positioning its legs up the air,
the head needs to be in a head down position. This is
extremely important for infants.
Pressure Bandage
For a pressure bandage you need normal and gaze
bandages. Another bandage can serve as pressure pad.
The bleeding is stopped with the pressure of the pad
on the injured vessels.
n Open the bandage packaging.
n Place some layers of gaze on the wound.
n Fix them rolling the gaze twice or three times round
the wound.
n Put the pressure pad on.
n Then continue rolling the gaze over the pressure
pad, avoiding stowage.
The bandage needs to be rolled evenly, which creates
the required pressure on the pressure pad. If possible
position the injured part of the body in a high position.
If blood drains through the bandage place an additional
pressure pad on the first one and fix with another gaze
bandage. Do not put too much pressure on the part of
the body, in particular for small children or infants.
Rescue breathing
For infants and toddlers up to 3 years mouth to mouth
or mouth to nose breathing is the first choice. If the
mouth of the person breathing is too small to cover
mouth and nose of the infant at the same time, mouth
to nose breathing is recommended. In order to do so
cover mouth (and nose) of the child firmly with your
mouth, for babies slightly breath every 2 seconds, for
Kids & Teens Club Manual 13
small children every 3 seconds.
Children 3 years and older get mouth to nose breathing.
Hold the nose of the child and cover the child’s nose
with your mouth. Slightly breathe in 2 times subsequently,
and then let some air out. If this is not possible
due to cold or similar, provide mouth to mouth breathing.
Always consider: Check movements of the chest and / or
abdominal wall if you are successful.
Heart-lungs resuscitation
If the injured child suffers a heart-attack, and there is
no breathing and pulse anymore a cardiac massage is
required. Place the child on a solid surface, i.e. table.
At children under a year you can feel the pulse of the
inside of the upper arm, between shoulder and elbow.
The point where to apply the cardiac massage is
approx. 1 finger’s width below the teats. Always apply
5 cardiac massages, then one rescue breathing, put
your hand 2–3 fingers beneath the point for the cardiac
massage, apply the massage with a frequency of 100/
minute.
Count aloud: “One, two, three, four, five, breathing, one,
two,..”
At children older than a year feel the pulse at the carotid
artery next to the trachea on the side of the neck or
in the inguinal region. If you cannot feel pulse anymore,
apply five cardiac massages and one rescue breathing.
Put your hand on the middle line of the breast, 2 finger’s
width beneath the breastbone; do not press on
the ribs or the outer part of the breastbone. Start the
massage with a frequency of 80/minute.
Count: “One and two and three and four and five and
breathing and one and two…”
Children over eight will get 15 cardiac massages on two
breathings. Press with the hand on the region described
above, start with a frequency of 80/minute.
Count” One and two and (up to 15) and breathing and
one and two and …”
If you can not call the emergency, take the child (especially
infants) with you. Try all the time to reanimate.
(If you assume any injury of the spine, do not transport
the child, this is too dangerous. Try to find a phone
instead!)

Country regulations always must be considered and
followed. New rules e.g. opening hours, safety rules and
the maximum number of children per session are displayed
on the notice board and at the entrance of the
Kids club. Each Parent and Child will be asked to disinfect
their hands when entering the Kids Club area.
Parents are kindly asked to leave the Kids Club area
immediately after drop off and pick up. Parents are not
allowed to stay in the Kids Club facility while the children
are joining the session. Furthermore, parents must
be reachable by mobile at all times, during the children
join the activities. Parents and hotel staff are asked to
ring the doorbell before entering the club as well as
wearing shoe protection when entering the club.
Playgrounds
Playgrounds outside of the respective Kids Clubs are
open and can be freely used by the kids. We kindly ask
the parents to supervise the adherence of their children
to the distance rules. The playgrounds within the Kids
Club grounds are part of the normal Kids Club activity
program.
Kids participating in the Kids activity program can enjoy
the playground under supervision of our Kids entertainers.
The playground inside the Kids Clubs can be
used by children under the supervision of parents when
the Kids Club activities end.

2.2. MAGIC MINI CLUB (3– 6 YEARS)
2.1.1. GENERAL
In the MAGIC Mini Club we offer an age appropriate,
exciting program full of action.
2.1.2. TO BE CONSIDERED
Supervisory duty is taken over for MAGIC Minis, which
means; parents accompany their children to the program
and complete the registration form there. As of
this moment you take over the supervisory duty.
At the end of the program children are being picked up
by their parents personally. The registration form will
be signed at pick-up time by a parent and one entertainer.
The program for the Minis shall always be varied and
exciting – also younger children wish to experience a
lot! But do not forget that you build a story round the
daily routine; this makes the program vivid, exciting and
unforgettable!
The safety aspect is of outmost importance. In particular
when going on excursions and making a tour through
the club grounds. For bigger activities there are always
two entertainers required, one is the main responsible
for the program, the other should always have an eye
on the children and count them. Especially outside the
Children Club, children get easily distracted. A funny
name game will ease it all. Always have an attendance
list with you, in order to be able to bring children who
do not want to stay anymore at all times to their
parents. For this reason it is important to always be
the chieftain for the young ones. Therefore it is also
important to have the children’s attention at all times.
Should you plan any programs that you require special
equipment for (i.e. sun cream, drinks, towels, shoes,
caps, etc.) this has to be determined with the parents
prior to the program start. You need to give them the
exact information what is required, what you are planning
etc. The parents will then know exactly what you
will be doing and do not need to worry. Also inform
parents about planned activities, they can participate
in or act as audience. Children are proud to show their
parents what they are doing or have prepared.
For excursions to the beach or similar the children are
always going in pairs, holding their partner’s hand or
you walk together from A to B, in one row in order to
keep the overview. Also consider not to come too close
to the water! Only the kids’ feet are allowed in the
water.
Always determine with the children what you are planning
to do and which rules need to be considered. Rules
offer safety to the children, as they are not able to
assess risks themselves. The group principally stays
together!
Always ask what the parents have planned for the day
and where they can be found in the club’s premises –
parents need to be reachable in the club.
If you leave the Children Club do not forget to leave a
note at the entrance door, where you are going with the
children. This is required for parents who might want to
visit their children or pick them up earlier.

Kids & Teens Club Manual
2.2.3. SWIMMING WITH THE
MAGIC MINIS
Set the case you want to go swimming with the Minis,
some rules have to be considered.
n Never go swimming in the sea!
n Only use the kids’ pool
n Maximum amount of children in the pool: 16 Minis
n All children wear swimming armbands
n One entertainer is at the edge of the pool and keeps
the overview over the complete group from the outside.
n The second entertainer is in the water, carries out
the program and also keeps the overview.
n Take care that none of the children is allergic to
chlorine or similar.
n Set the case the group is too large for two entertainers;
choose another wet alternative (water hose,
water bombs etc.) which is also very funny for the
children.
In the Children Club you are always confronted with
everyday situations. Many things are happening you
need to be aware of and react to. You are the model
and idol for the children, use this position and create a
real group which allies with you. You can reach this by
addressing the children directly, making little jokes and
being open.
Kids & Teens Club Manual 21
2.2.4. DAY PROGRAMMES
AND ROUTINES
Consider: Detect the children’s mood, arouse their
curiosity and win their trust.
Changing phases
n Searching–lingering
n Excitement–relaxation
n Individual–group
n Movement–quietness
Highlight days:
n Superhero Day
n Pirate Day
n Adventure Day
The first day in the Children Club
The first day in the hotel facilities is the most important
and decisive day: Children are still a bit reluctant. They
approach cautiously and do not know what to expect.
They are insecure and need you, the entertainer as
orientation guidance. Mainly in the beginning everything
is new and unknown. Please mind runaways and children,
who are crying.
Radiate tranquillity and give parents the good feeling
that you have the overview over the kids’ world and the
kids. They entrust their children to you! Minis will be
accompanied by their parents to the club.
During registration different items of the program are
possible:
n Make a tour together through the Children Club
n Tell a story
n Free play on the grounds
n Paint a picture
n Free play with a selected toy
When completing the registration form the most
important points of the Children Club are explained to
the parents.
1. Children are always accompanied to and picked up
from the club by their parents personally. In order to
do so they inscribe their children in the attendance
list and also unsubscribe them. Siblings, 14 years and
older can pick up their younger siblings with written
approval of their parents.
2. What do I do when a child is not three years old yet,
but the parents bring it to the club?
Friendly, but nevertheless determined, explain to the
parents that participation in the program on their
own is possible for children aged 3 and older. Younger
children cannot participate for insurance legal reasons.
You cannot take over the responsibility. Offer
them the alternative that child can stay together
with a parent. Not all programs are suitable for very
young children, and an adult’s support is needed. In
this case it is the parent supporting the child, as you
have to look after a group of children at the same
time. In case of problems please refer to the tour
guide; all services are determined in the catalogue.
3. Today’s program, highlights of the week, evening
program
4. Opening times, meeting points and where to find the
program information on the info board.
5. Important: The explanation that we are not offering
a kindergarten or child minding, but children entertainment.
Parents need to be available and reachable
in the club facilities during the Children Club opening
times. Do not forget, children (and parents) need to
be on your side. Try to catch them with interesting,
exciting topics!
Red thread through the program:
Example: It is your beach day – everything is focused
on the topic beach today. Building sand castles, races or
other games, all is focused on water, sea, sea shells and
the beach.
Children love stories, and they believe what you tell
them. Therefore wrap each day into an exciting adventure.
On pirates day for example you can tell the story
about pirates or tell them about the ships you saw early
that morning…You are also part of the history, i.e. you
are living the program and are part of it with your
costume, make-up etc. …
It is extremely important to create a special ambiance
that allows the children to dive into the adventure with
all their fantasy and completely identify with the story.

Kids & Teens Club Manual
Objective: The Children Club is decorated in a
friendly and colourful way.
IMPORTANT: Sometimes less is more.
New paintings or branding must be confirmed
before.
How should the complete season be organised?
n All Children entertainers are responsible for keeping
the club tidy.
n After the program ends the Children Club needs to
be tidied.
n Each Children Club has a list of materials; materials
used are to be recorded in this list, in order to be
aware if new material needs to be ordered.
n Do not forget: The Children Club is our flagship!
If guests are visiting, they shall get a positive
impression.
Course and methodology of the event
When painting with the children it makes sense, to use
thicker pens, in order to fill more paper. Felt pens and
crayons are not really suitable as many children this age
group cannot really use them properly. It is better to
use wax crayons, oil chalk and water colours instead.
Creating a group painting together is also a lot of fun
for the children. Finally presenting the works and
getting some acknowledgement is always a highlight.
Children only develop the ability to paint during their
development. The age group from 3 to 5 normally
draws cephalopods, only thereafter they start to
structure their pictures a bit more, i.e. with houses etc.
Also for handy crafts it is important to consider the
choice of materials. Material should be used in an
economic way by the kids. Always consider safety and
prevention of accidents! Do not use any sharp instruments,
toxic colours, toxic materials or too small items
which can be swallowed. Always have in mind that
parents need to be able to transport the works home!

Kids & Teens Club Manual
2.3. MAGIC KIDS CLUB
(7–12 YEARS IN MAGIC BASIC FAMILY & KIDS)
(7–9 YEARS IN MAGIC HIGHLIGHT FAMILY & KIDS)
KIDS NEED A PROGRAM FULL OF ACTION AND
EXCITEMENT!
They are not the youngest and they can enjoy their
freedom during their holiday in the club’s premises.
However there are some requirements related to behaviour
and keeping up to rules, being aware of risks etc.
that might be addressed to the children. Every day kids
want to be motivated anew and they also wish to face
new challenges. You as entertainers are model and idol
to them. Things you like and find cool, are also cool for
them. Everything you will show serves as a model for
the kids.
“Capturing” the kids is extremely important. Firstly
determine what they like, what is fun for them and
which activities they are interested in. Then they will be
on your side. Set the case you realise that more and
more children are leaving during the program this is a
sign for the entertainer that the program is not exciting
enough. There are 1-2 entertainers for the kids.
The program is different from the Mini program as far
as it is “pure action”. Already with the selection of the
daily activities they shall see, what is really going on.
It is important to offer to the kids the possibility to
burn off their energy, but at the same time there shall
be cool-down units, to calm them down, i.e. football
and afterwards simply relax or splash around in the
pool or play some quiet games. Dynamic is very important
as well as cool downs are of great importance, too.
If you are only carrying out a pure action program you
risk that the kids get too high-spirited and the entertainers
are loosing control. Then it is also difficult to
continue with the program.
Similar as with the Minis, each day has a certain theme.
The current program is displayed at the information
board. The weekly program is on display at the Mini
program, and can be handed out to parents and children.
During the day program everything is focused on the
daily theme. It is up to you to amend games that they
suit the theme. On a pirates day play tag becomes
pirates hunt.
Nevertheless consider course and methodology of the
program also for the kids. Everything is about excitement
and action! They need programs where things are
really taking off.
Painting and crafting material: Always create an adventurous
and exciting background, using action painting
with finger colours, body painting with face paint,
crafting for a highlight, and painting competitions to
different topics with exhibition (i.e. exhibit the works at
the MAGIC Radio or at the Wunderbar). You also might
create a giant picture together with the Minis (low season).
Use all kind of material in order make the picture
really lively.
Supervisory duty: The parents sign the registration
form; kids come and go as they wish to – however they
briefly need to deregister at the entertainer. It is an
incitement to offer such a program that no kid wants to
leave earlier than the program ends.
The safety aspect also always has to be considered in
the kids program! They can move freely, but keep your
eyes and ears open.
Kids & Teens Club Manual 25
Swimming with the kids:
n Never go swimming in the sea with the kids (apart
from TML Kalawy)
n Use the pool, if not too crowded
n Attention: sometimes kids need water wings
n Always keep the overview
n 1 entertainer outside, 1 entertainer in the water
n Are the any kids being allergic?
n If the group is too big look for alternatives, i.e. water
fight
n Maximum amount of children: 20
Rules: Can be determined and extended by you.
Sometimes kids are very loud and restless. Determine
the rules with the kids and emphasise their importance.
n What are they allowed to do? When is it enough?
n Set your personal limits.
n Sun cream is mandatory, hat or cap is of advantage
when you are strolling through the premises with
the kids. Communicate to the children.
n Older kids look after the younger ones.
n “Deputy Sheriffs” can support you. It is always good
to assign this task to an extremely quiet child or
even the loudest. This increases their self esteem,
and it is easier for you to work with them.
Do not forget to consider the interface between the
entertainers and the hotel staff, always check in
advance what is possible and what not.
2.4. MAGIC YOUNGSTER
(10–12 YEARS IN MAGIC HIGHLIGHT FAMILY & KIDS CLUBS)
NEW: E-SPORT TOURNAMENT,
ONCE A WEEK
YOUNGSTER IN GENERAL
We only offer this age group in our MAGIC Highlight

excitement but they also need chill out phases.
They are no small children anymore and no teenagers
yet. Youngster want to be among themselves, and enjoy
their holiday without their parents, in their group.
However there are some requirements related to behaviour
and keeping up to rules, being aware of risks etc.
that might be addressed to the children. Every day
Youngster want to be motivated anew and also face
new challenges. You as entertainers are model and idol
to them. Things you like and find cool, are also cool for
them, if you transport it to them in a cool and relaxed
way. Everything you will show serves as a model for the
Youngster.
Capturing and keeping children of this age group is
extremely important. Firstly determine what they like,
what is fun for them and which activities they are interested
in. Then they will be on your side. The group
feeling is an absolute must for Youngstesr. The program
for this age group can be ideally combined using element
from the kids and teens program. Set the case you
realise that more and more children are leaving during
the program this is a sign for the entertainer that the
program is not exciting enough! For Youngsters flexibility
and responding to their interests is even more
important. Activities always need to be sold in a highly
motivated manner, and then they find it cool and like to
join in.
For the Youngsters’ program there is no daily theme as
there is for the Minis and kids. It is very important
to create the program varied, exciting and individual.
Certain topics always work very well with this group,
i.e. Olympic Games, rally, creepy day, etc.
The current program is displayed on the information
board. The weekly program is on display at the MAGIC
Kids Club and can be handed out to the parents and
children. Do not forget to inform the parents in the
beginning that the Youngsters’ program only serves at
guideline, as we individually correspond to their needs.
The team at the MAGIC Radio knows at all times where
the Youngsters are.

3.2. DAILY PROGRAM
Program offer
We offer a high quality of children programs but it is
not an obligation for the children to join.
The entertainers are fully responsible (supervisory role)
for the children and teenagers during their participation
at the activities. We offer a big variety of kids orientated
entertainment programs. Children can participate in
our activities if they want to but they do not have to.
TUI MAGIC LIFE has international guests and emphasizes
on individuality. Each child is an individual, which is
precious and loving, but nevertheless has its certain
particularities. It is our duty, to make each child happy.
We do not differentiate between background and language.
Each child will get our fullest attention.
We impart holiday feelings, affection, joy, trust and
MAGIC Moments, but also limits.
IMPORTANT: Kids Entertainment is of
great importance at TUI MAGIC LIFE.
The wellbeing of the child is top priority.
What are the characteristics for a good Kids entertainer?
Happy, friendly, creative, these are only a few characteristics
for a good Kids Entertainer. We are responsible,
always helpful, spontaneous and a little crazy. We discover
the child in our inner self. We are children ourselves,
but take care of them at the same time. We are
there for the children, but also for the parents. Most
important, we maintain the overview at all times.
What do children parents and also the hotel expect
from me?
Arouse the children’s curiosity, motivate the children
and respond to their needs. Listen to the children and
take them seriously. Respond to the children’s interests.
Create an exciting program for the complete day.
Always talk to the children on eyesight, particularly
when welcoming them. Establish group typical actions.
Give the children the feeling that they are important to
you.
A happy child is synonym for happy parents.
It is very important, that the entertainer is
dedicated and responsible when carrying out the
day program.

Daily program
In our day program we offer a varied and exciting program
for all age groups. We in particular consider that
the programs are planned to be individual and exciting.
There is a different daily theme for each day (except
for teens). This theme is like the read thread through
the complete day. The activities are selected for the
appropriate age groups.
Preparation
Already think of the course of the program when
planning it. Think of games to fill gaps – and do not
forget always have a plan B in your mind. Think of the
selection and course of the games; avoid playing games
that are very similar to each other. Inspect the location
where your programs shall take part and have your
program topics in mind, in order to know where you
are, when parents will ask you. Of course the current
day program is also on display at the information board;
therefore it is important that you are starting your
announced activities in time. Obviously it might be that
children need a little longer or do not fancy an activity
at all. In these cases it is important that one entertainer
waits for potential joiners at the planned activities and
then rejoins the group.
It is also important that you inform the MAGIC Radio
and the Children Club where you are and if there has
been a change in your program (applicable for Kids
Club, Youngsters and Teens Time).
IMPORTANT: Be creative and enjoy the various
activities and games yourself.
To be considered
Sense the current mood and respond - create an atmosphere
(stimulate the fantasy and arouse curiosity).
For the Youngsters and Teens Time there is a weekly
program to be repeated each week. For the MAGIC
Minis and Kids Club there is 2 weeks program. Please
consider that MAGIC highlight days and adventure days
are alternating and that the content is slightly different
and similar programs or highlights such as Indians day
(search for traces) and pirates’ day (treasure hunt) are
not offered in the same week. It should also be considered
that on one day you do not only play ball games
and on the next day only running games.
IMPORTANT: The program shall always be
varied. After an exhausting sport activity the
following games should be in the pool or in some
other way relate to water.

09.30–10.00 Free play
Arrival time: Entertainer 1 welcomes the child on eye

provides all necessary information to the parents.

form.
n One entertainer accompanies the children on the
banana, and supports them getting on and off it.
n One entertainer helps them to put the life vests on.
n One entertainer supervises the other children, who
are not on the banana boat.
n All entertainers look at the children at all times!
n In other clubs where we do not have the banana
boat, we organise a pool game at the same time.
n Safety has to be considered – as described in the
section supervisory duty and legal issues for the
corresponding age groups.
n Should you have finished your activity before the
official end of the program, you can use the remaining
time for free play. Normally the children will be
collected one after the other at this time.

parents where the meeting point with the children is.
Best location is close to the amphitheatre, as most of
the parents visit the show and you can then be easily
found. Set the case a child wants to leave on its own,
make sure it exactly knows where to find its parents.
Let the child only leave on its own when it is a little
older and responsible. A 7 or 8 years old child shall not
be on its own in the club at night time.

3.3. FACEPAINTING
HOW DO I APPLY FACE PAINTINGS TO CHILDREN?
Preparation
The most important topic when preparing this activity
is the provision of all materials. Here a little reminder
what is required:
n Make-up on a water basis, (no cream make-up!)
n Different make-up brushes (no brushes from
T-Shirt painting or bristle brushes)
n Water mugs (filled with lukewarm water)
n Paper tissues
n Make-up sponges
n Glitter
n Make-up remover
n Hand mirror (if no wall mirror is in vicinity)
n Hair circlet or clips
n Painting templates
Completion
Think of a suitable location. The kids who are waiting
should also be entertained, and you need to keep the
overview. Generally face painting activities can take
place outside, the colours dry faster in the sun.
Not all children can get their make-up at the same time,
therefore think about activities for those who are
waiting (i.e. draw make-up templates on paper, body
painting – the other kids paint each others arms or
simply some board games).
Call in one child after the other. Avoid waiting queues,
this is only boring and the group will become restless.
Show the templates to the children, in order for them
to get an idea how they will look later. Obviously you
can design your own templates or make some individual
changes on the templates. It is always nice when the
children look differently. Please keep in mind to mainly
paint happy faces. Only skulls and monsters are not
very appealing in the hotel premises (exception: this is
the daily theme!).
It is difficult for children to sit still for a long time,
please do not focus too much on minor details. The art
of face painting for children is, to quickly paint nice face
for restless children. For really small children use less
detailed motifs, only a few strokes of the brush are
required. Entertain them in the meantime. Tell them
a story or explain what you are exactly doing. Time
passes quicker and it is not boring.
ATTENTION: Always leave enough space around
the eyes. Not only is unpleasant getting make-up
in this area of the face, but also removing it
becomes more difficult.
Explain to the parents how the make-up can be best
washed off again (lukewarm water + soap or remover or
baby tissues) or provide to them remover cream, if existing.
What should not be missing at all? Glitter, of course, no
matter if girl or boy, glitter looks good on everybody.
Apply the glitter only as the last step. Use glitter cream
or loose glitter, apply it with a slightly wet brush. You
can also hide some minor errors. Do not use directly at
the eye!
Obviously you cannot only paint the face, but the whole
body. Best is, if children wear swimming suits, then
there is enough free space to paint on. And it is the
very best to paint the entertainer. So put on your bikini
or swimming trunks, too.
IMPORTANT: Check with parents first. The
swimming suits might get dirty with some paint.
Only apply body painting after prior approval of
the parents!
Post-processing
It is mandatory that you thoroughly clean the brushes
and sponges after the activity using soap (best is curd
soap) and warm water. Place the brushes in a diagonal
position that the water can drain off. Also the paints
need to be cleaned. Hold briefly under running water
and let dry. Close the colour boxes only once the
colours are completely dry. Otherwise it could happen
that the colours start getting mouldy. Set the case you
have used a hair circlet this needs to be cleaned too, in
order to avoid that the next child has the colours of the
previous week in its hair.
We always leave our working space in a clean and tidy
condition. This is also applicable for the painting corner.
Clean the table with a damp tissue.

3.5. TEENS TIME
TEENS TIME EVENING PROGRAM
The teens evening meeting takes place 6 times per
week from 21.00 until 24.00.
Already think of a theme for the teens evening meeting
in order to organise everything accordingly (theme,
decoration, costumes, and arrangements with hotel,
technical department; F&B). Of course you already
know the theme of the corresponding “sand, moon and
more” during the daytime and you can inform the teens
and their parents about the evening program. Nevertheless
the entertainment manager or assistant will
make another announcement after the show in the
amphitheatre. Plan to have sufficient entertainers for
your program (depending on the event and the amount
of teens).
During the Teens Time program alcohol is strictly prohibited.
Even if parents allow their children to drink
alcohol, then it is only possible in their presence and
not during a teens meeting. Also smoking is not allowed
as long as teens are in the Teens Time. We cannot
control what they’re doing when they are not with the
group or the entertainer.
things need to be prepared and clarified with the
entertainment manager in advance.

n Where do I do it?
n What do I need?
n Choose your theme and create suitable games,
decoration, songs, etc.
n Select a suitable location for your plan. Check
with the entertainment manager if the location
is avail able for the desired time.
n If you need music, a sound system, drinks, snacks
or anything else, check in advance with the corresponding
department, in order to have everything
prepared in good time.
n You arrive at the latest half an hour before the
program start at the location in order to verify if
everything is on site and working.
n When the teens arrive, determine rules in the
beginning. Please have in mind, certainly at night
time, when it is dark this age group is very inventive
.

3.6. HIGHLIGHT DAYS
HIGHLIGHT DAY
In the Children Club 2x or 3x per week the day has a
theme and is a highlight. Everything this day is related
to a certain theme. The activities have to be age
appropriate.
Preparation
Already think of a course of the event when planning it.
If you carry out this highlight day for the first time have
all materials prepared. Maybe try in advance, if your
ideas will really work. The theme shall be like a red
through the complete day. This means, it is not enough
to only plan the active program accordingly. You also
need to dress up correspondingly, decorate the Mungo
club or the location where your highlight takes place.
Important: be creative!
Completion: (example pirates day)
Question / storytelling and making costumes:
Spin a red thread through your program. First start
talking about pirates. Ask the children what pirates are.
Are they flying in planes, throw a lasso or wear a
knight’s armour or a nice suit? Who knows famous
pirates? What do pirates always carry with them?
Work-shop: Make your own sabres, belts, hats, viewing
glass or parrot from cardboard. Tell the children what is
happening in the afternoon, i.e. treasure hunt.
This increases their anticipation and they will definitely
come back in the afternoon.
Highlight in the afternoon:
Now it is time to look like real pirates! Make-up the
children with a moustache, some scars, big eyebrows,
tattoos with skulls. You cannot put on make-up for all
children at the same time, therefore use this time to
think of a battle cry and some good pirates names. Now
you are real pirates! But where is the treasure? Give the
children the first tip on a treasure map (to be prepared
at the beginning of the season, can be painted on an
old bed linen, try to make it real) and start the treasure
hunt. In order to get from place to place the children
need to solve different riddles and tasks. In the end you
will find the treasure together. The box might be filled
with bracelets. Only hide the pieces of the treasure
map shortly before the program starts, so they cannot
get lost. There are many options for a highlight or
theme day. However it is important that you have an
exact plan before and prepare it well. Furthermore
really the complete day should be under this theme. It
is not enough to wear a black eye patch when announcing
it, tell some stories and go on the treasure hunt.
This day is meant to be a special experience for the
children, so make it one. Often children will tell in their
next holiday about this special day!
44
Kids & Teens Club Manual
Example
Pirate Day
The pirates highlight cannot be missed out in the
holidays; an exciting treasure hunt awaits the children.
Workshop ideas:
“Bandana”
n Material: Old bed linen, water colours, wax crayons,
felt pens, scissors
n Each child gets a triangle piece of tissue (transfer
template to bed linen and cut it out)
n Decorate the triangle using water colours, wax
crayons or felt pens (only for older children)
Superhero Day (Minis & Kids)
Children will dress up as their favourite superhero
and also get their face painted.
Story: One Entertainer is the villain and steals the
MAGIC Glitter. Children need to find her / him in the
hotel and need to fulfil some tasks to get back the
MAGIC Glitter. After they celebrate all together in front
of the MAGIC Radio with a superhero song.
Pirate’s hat made of cardboard
n Material: Cardboard, water colours, wax crayons,
coloured pencils, glitter, glue, scissors, stapler
n Cut a template for the pirate’s hat from card board
n Each child obtains two forms
n Children paint them, decorate them with glitter or
glue decoration on them
n Either stick or staple together
Face painting (eye patch or three day beard)
Treasure hunt
The pirates find a message in a bottle in the MAGIC
Mungo club with a treasure map. The way to the treasure
is indicated on the map. Following the instructions
on the map the pirates start the treasure hunt. At each
station the children have to complete exciting tasks in
order to get the next place. They keep all pieces until
the end, where they will finally find the treasure. After
the treasure hunt all pirates get together and play
funny pirate games.
Kids: Search for the treasure in the whole club and follow
the indications on the treasure map. Obviously they
need to complete various tasks and tests on their way.

4.2. LIVING STORIES (MASSAGE STORIES)
At all times, it is important to take care of the spine!
Cookie monster
1. The cookie monster expects visitors and
thus wants to bake cookies. The dough
needs to be well kneaded.
(Use your hands to massage the child’s
back, legs and arms).
2. Now the cookie monster adds some chopped
nuts.
(Do some chopping movement with the
outer side of the hand).
3. Now the dough is rolled out with the
rolling pin.
(Stroke with both hands over the child’s
back, up and down applying some light
pressure).
4. Now the cookie monster takes small,
round cookie cutter and cuts many cookies
from the dough (
form your hands to a cramp in a way that
your fingers are positioned in a circle, and
make small circular moves on the body)
5. Now the cookie monsters places the cookies
on a baking tray
(slightly tap on the body with the palm of
your hand).
6. The tray is put in the oven and the cookies
are quickly baked
(put the palm on the child’s back and rub
in two directions).
7. Today the cookie monster wants to bake
chocolate cookies. Therefore it spreads
some chocolate with the brush on each
cookie
(the fingers of one hand represent the
brush, smoothly spread “chocolate” on
different parts of the child’s body).
8. As the chocolate is not dry yet, it adds
some crumbles
(use your finger tips).
9. At the end the chocolate needs to dry and
the cookies need to cool down
(blow all over the child’s body).
10. Originally the cookie monster wanted to
keep the cookies for its visitors, but as it
loves cookies so much, it eats all of them
now!
Pizza, pizza
Firstly knead the dough, then roll it out on
the baking tray (back), spread some tomato
sauce on it, season with some spices, put
salami / ham, onion rings, mushrooms on it
and finally sprinkle with cheese. Then place
the pizza in the oven, it is very hot there (rub
over the child’s back). Oh, how good that
smells (all sniff, really funny), we take the
pizza out of the over, blow it a little colder
and cut it in small pieces … and …. (the first
children start screaming) … bite into it.
Only put simple things on your pizza.
The bear walks like this
Walking up the mountain the bear walks like
this and down like this.
(Slightly tap up and down the back with the
flat hand.)
The frog hops up and down the mountain
like this.
(Tap up and down the back a little stronger
with flat hand.)
The cat slinks up and down the mountain
like this.
(Then stroke up and down the back with
hands.)
The beetle tickles up and down the mountain
like this.
(Tickle up and down the back using your fingertips.)
(Of course you can also use other animals.)
The mouse traipses like this …
The elephant stomps like this …
The snake wriggles like this …
The duck waddles like this …
The caterpillar cringes like this…
All movements of the animals are played
with the hands or the fingers on the children’s
back.

4.3. ACTIVITY AND GROUP GAMES
Seashell game (Music-stops game)
The children are swimming through the sea (inside or
outside), when the music stops the entertainers
become big seashells and the small fish (children) find
shelter in the arms of these seashells. Otherwise the
big crab (child or entertainer) will come and pinch them
in the bottom.
Warm-up game “Nemo” (Musical-stops game)
All fish (children) are swimming through the sea (room
or garden) accompanied by lively music. When the
music stops the entertainer gives them a chore, that
they need to solve commonly.
n All fish swim through the entertainer’s legs (bridge)
n All fish rub against each other with their backs
n All fish press their feet together
n All fish welcome each other with a flock of their fins
(shake hands)
Little gymnasts really big
Material: 4 cuddling toys or animal posters: dog (or cat),
bird (or butterfly), snake
(or caterpillar) and elephant (or bear)
Preparation: Distribute the animals
(garden or room)
Game: The children are moving around in the room,
every time they pass one of the animals they change
their form of movement.
Dog: Crawl on all fours
Bird: Spread the arms and fly like a bird
Snake: Lay on the floor and wriggle like a snake
Elephant: Stomp on the floor
Alternative for older children:
The entertainer shows alternating animals, the kids
move accordingly.
Cookie eating
In the beginning organise two groups of children. There
are cookies on a table which is located in some meters
distance. Now one participant of each group runs to the
table, eats one cookie and screams out “Olé” then he
runs back to his group. The group who finishes first is
the winner.
Ice floes
There is a marked up distance. Then the children are
organised into two groups.
The first two children take four ice floes (made of cardboard)
each and which have been prepared before. The
relay race starts upon a starting signal. Both children
place the first ice floe before them, jump on it and position
the second floe. This is to be repeated until they
have reached the finish line. Going back they need to
collect the ice floes again and give them to the next
child. Again the group who finishes first is the winner.
Sack racing
Two groups compete against each other. The first
player of each group starts sack racing after the start
signal has been given. The distance to hop along is up
to the finish line and back to the start again. Then it is
up to the next player and so on. The group who is fastest
wins.
Musical chairs
Set up chairs in two rows or a circle (one chair less than
children participating). When the music starts the children
start running around the chairs, as soon as the
music stops each child needs to sit on a chair. The child,
who does not find a chair, leaves the game. A new
round starts with again one chair less than children.
The child who in the end sits on the last chair is the
winner.
Hat dance
The children dance in a circle to the music and a hat is
passed from head to head of the children. When the
music stops the child wearing the hat leaves the circle.
In the final round there are only two children left. The
put on the hat, turn and pass the hat to the other child.
Winner is who isn’t wearing the hat when the music
stops.
Egg and spoon race
Organise two groups of the same size. The first child of
each group obtains a spoon and a hardboiled egg,
which is to be placed on the spoon. With the starting
signal the children start running to the finish line and
back. In no case they shall loose or drop the egg. Then
it is up to the next child. The group finishing first is the
winner. (You can also use Ping-Pong balls instead of
eggs.)
Obstacle race
Set up two same obstacle courses next to each other
(slalom with arm chairs, somersault on a mat, throwing
and catching a ball, jumping on one leg, etc …), then
organise the children in two groups of the same size
and start the race. Winner is the group whose participants
were fastest.
Kids & Teens Club Manual 53
“Sea and sun”
Place a rope on the floor and determine which side of
the rope is sea and which side is sun. The children need
to consider the announcement of the entertainer, when
he calls out sea they need to jump on the sea side,
when he calls out sun they jump on the sun side. Children
making a mistake and jumping on the “wrong” side
need to leave the game.
Cola, Fanta, Sprite
Each child gets a chair, then the entertainer determines
in advance to which activity the terms Cola, Fanta,
Sprite are allocated. I.e. if Cola is called out the children
need to sit on their chairs, Fanta and the children stand
on the chair and if Sprite is called out, they change
chairs. Children making a mistake leave the game. You
can make the game a little easier for the kids if you play
music. When the music stops and the children are not
in the right position they leave the game.
Balloon
Each child obtains a balloon and as soon as the music
starts playing all balloons are being swirled through the
air. As soon as the music stops, each child needs to
quickly fetch a balloon and lay on the floor. The last
child on the floor leaves the game.
Duck and goose
All children are sitting or standing in a circle. One player
surrounds the circle and while walking he puts his hand
on the other kids’ heads and says “duck”. If he suddenly
says “goose” to one of the children, he needs to run
away (around the circle) and the goose needs to try and
catch him before the player reaches the “goose’s” place.
If the player is faster than the goose, the game starts
from new. Now the goose walks around the circle. And
if the goose is faster he has to continue looking for a
place.
Mummy
The children are organised into groups of 4-5 players.
Each group gets two rolls toilet paper. One child is
determined to be the mummy and the others use the
toilet paper to wrap this child up. While wrapping the
child up, the music plays, when the music stops the
wrapping stops. Now the mummy has to pass its test. It
needs to carefully walk to a marked up finish line
without losing the toilet paper or possibly not even tearing
it apart.
The magic whistle
One player is being sent out of the room and another
child in the room gets a whistle, fixed on a ribbon, hung
round his neck and down his back. Then the first player
can come back into the room. Now all the children start
walking around and try to secretly blow the whistle
without being
seen. Objective is to irritate the first child who shall find
the whistle, and thus needs
to observe and listen carefully. Once the player finds
the whistle the game starts again. The ribbon for the
whistle shall not be longer than 35 cm, otherwise it
swings too much.
Who has the ball?
One player is selected who then stands with his back to
the other players which are aligned in one row. The
player selected has the ball, throws it backwards over
his head to the other players (without turning around)
and calls out: ”One, two, and three, who catches the
ball?” One child in the row catches the ball and hides
the ball in his hands behind the back. All the other children
in the row also hide their hands behind the back.
The child who threw the ball is allowed to turn when
the others scream: „Four, five, and six, who has the ball
now?” The thrower needs to guess who has the ball,
and when he guesses right, this child is the next thrower.
Ball in the basket
A basket serves as target. Draw circles in one meter
distance to each other round the target. Then the children
need to try and hit the target. If they throw from
the nearest line to the target they get one point, from
the next two and so on. The first round is finished after
a certain number of attempts. As the children were
allowed to choose from where they threw in the first
round, the kids with the highest scores now throw from
the outer circle in order to balance the chances. There
are as many attempts in the second round than in the
first, i.e. five attempts. In the last round the players
may choose from where they throw, but there are only
one or two attempts.
Alternative: Each player needs to throw from each line.
Points are counted as above. The player with the highest
score is the winner.
Ball in the cage
The children are standing as close as possible next to
each other. One child is in the centre of the circle and
has to try to kick a tennis ball out of the circle just using
his feet. If it manages, the child who let the ball pass
comes in the middle.
54
Kids & Teens Club Manual
Tunnel
The children are divided into groups. The children of
each group line up one behind the other, the legs are
spread a bit. The first player in the row gets a ball, after
the starting signal the ball is passed as fast as possible
backwards through the other players’ legs. If the first
player is very skilled and the legs are positioned in the
right way, he can also throw the ball to end of the tunnel.
Once the last player has the ball, he runs to the
first position and the game continues. The ball needs to
be passed through the tunnel.
Clap before fetching
One player is being chosen. The others build a circle
around him. The player in the middle throws a ball to
one player in the circle. But be- fore this play is allowed
to fetch the ball, he needs to clap his hands three times.
Of course the player in the middle tries to mislead the
others. Is the player who was supposed to fetch the ball
not able to clap three times, he goes in the middle and
the game starts again.
Alternative: If the child cannot fetch the ball, it must
stand on one leg or complete another chore.
Ball owner
All children are standing in a circle. One child in the
middle needs to try to get the ball which is thrown or
passed by the others. Once the child in the middle
manages to even touch the ball, the child who had the
last ball contact goes in the middle.
Merman
Mark up a field for the game, required are the start and
finish lines as well as outside lines. One player is selected
to be the merman; he stands at the finish line. The
other players stand at the start line. Now the merman
calls out: “Who is afraid of the merman?” The others
answer: „Nobody!” Thereto the merman replies: “And if
he comes?” The other will answer: “Then we run away”
This is the starting signal. The players try to reach the
safe finish line whereas the merman tries to catch as
many players as possible. Those who have been caught
support the merman in the next rounds.
Fire, water, storm
The kids are running outside in the grass. The entertainer
calls out one of the terms above and the kids
needs to fulfil the corresponding task:
Fire: Do not run into the area the fire comes from.
Water: Quickly try to get off the floor.
Storm: Dive away.
Of course you can think of more terms. Kids making a
mistake or being too late, leave this round.
This game is also suitable as pool game:
Fire: Jump into the water.
Water: Quickly get out of the pool.
Storm: Dive away.
Betting competition “Wetten, dass”
Like in the famous TV show some bets are being prepared
and need to be completed within a certain duration
of time. Bets are related to a wager, which needs to
be cashed in, if the bet is being lost.
“Wetten, dass”, you will not manage, to…
n At least find 30 kids who wish to come to the Mungo
disco
n To find at least 40 kids who will dance the Club dance
in front of the MAGIC radio
n To throw a raw egg over the distance of 15 m and
catch it, without breaking it.
n Stand blindfolded for one minute and then lift the
right hand at the same time
n Build a pyramid in the water with five children and
stand there for three minutes.
And many more…!
Fruit salad
All children are sitting on a chair in a circle and each child
gets the name of a fruit (strawberry, pear, apple, and
cherry). And one player goes in the middle. His chair is
taken out of the circle. Now he asks one sort of fruit to
change places and needs to try to get one of their chairs.
He can also say fruit salad, then all children need to
change place. The child without a chair goes in the middle.
Feet quiz
Material: Different items to be touched.
Before the game actually starts, all children can have a
look at the items. After a short while one child gets
blindfolded. Then one child can choose an item which is
placed in front of the blindfolded kid’s feet. Now the
child tries to feel with his feet which item it is.
Alternative: In pairs.
Tip: Place an ice cube instead of one of the items
before the child; remind it to be careful though.
Wireless phone
The children are sitting in a circle and hold hands, apart
from one child in the middle who determines a caller
and a message receiver. Now the message is being sent
by pressing the hand of the next player. There also
might be a change in direction. Once the message has
arrived, the receiver says so. The player in the middle
needs to find out where the message is. He stops the
message by naming the payer where he thinks the message
is at the moment. If he is right, they change places.
If not it continues.
Kids & Teens Club Manual 55
Time keeping competition
Objective of the game is how long one minute takes. All
children sit with closed eyes in the floor. The entertainer
gives the signal and has a look at the clock. As
soon as a child thinks a minute is over it stands up. The
entertainer takes care whose guess was closest. This
child gets a point and the next round can start.
Changed picture competition:
Material: Paper, pens
One player is the painter and paints a picture. The
others shall remember this picture. Then all players
turn away; and the painter makes some changes to his
picture. The child who guesses first is the winner.
Stadium
The kids are in a fictive stadium; only one child leaves
the stadium and waits to be called in. In the mean time
the others decide which match can be seen, i.e. boxing,
baseball, tennis, football etc. When the player outside is
called in again, the public starts to follow the match and
make relating gestures and movements, noises and talking
is not allowed. Will the player recognise which
sport it is?
Please pass on
All children, apart from one, are sitting in a circle. The
one child is not in the room. Now the others decide
which item will be passed on. It makes a big difference,
if it is a dog, a small cat, a towel a TV, a mouse or an ice
cube. As soon as this decision is made, the child can
come back into the room and sees how the item is passed
on. Will it find out which item?
Comparison
Objective of this game is to precisely observe and
remember details. All children are standing in a circle or
in a row. The observing player has a good look at all
children. Who wears glasses, who has the blue pullover…
Then he leaves for moment and the children exchange
some items. What has been changed?
Musical chairs with balloons
Material: Balloons and music
You require as many blown up balloons as there are
children. As soon as the music starts the children start
throwing the balloons in the air. When the music stops,
the children need to catch a balloon each. This is the
intro round. Now take one balloon away and play it
similar to musical chairs.
Winking
In the beginning each child chooses a partner. Then
children sit in a circle, their partners are sitting behind
them. One child is selected to be wink. The partner
behind the children is only allowed to look on their
partner’s heads. Now the child in the middle starts winking
at a child in the circle who then tries to stand up
and get away. His partner needs to react quickly and
hold the other child back. If he cannot manage he will
go in the middle and wink, if yes the child in the middle
tries again.
Wave surfing
If the children are wearing jewellery and watches or
belts with buckles, they put it off. Then they all lay
down on the floor in one row, face down on their
tummy. Between them is only a little space, maybe the
width of a child’s body. The first surfer knees at one
end of the row and trusts the water. Now the wave
starts moving. From the beginning of the end of the
row the children start turning all in the same direction.
Like this the surfer will be moving.
Whiskey smuggling
Material: Large buckets, mugs, water, material to separate
Build two teams: Smugglers and police. If possible there
should be no sources of danger on the grounds such as
trees or similar. The smugglers have an empty bucket
on their land. Their land is marked up and only smugglers
are allowed on this piece of land. This piece of land
is close to the police’s land which is very spacious. On
the other side of the police’s land is the land with the
whiskey. (There is a bucket with water) Now the smugglers
need to smuggle as much whiskey as possible in
their mugs through the police land. If a police man touches
them, they have to spill the whiskey immediately.
After 5 minutes teams are being changed. Winner is
who could smuggle the most whiskey. There also might
be penalty times for bad behaviour of the smugglers.
Foot artists
Material: Old papers, paper, water colours, brushes
No normal painting will be created, but a painting made
with the legs and toes. Try it out!
Stone mosaic:
Material: Stones
Collect all different kind of stones together: bigger
ones, smaller ones, round ones…
Each child has its stones, start a mosaic. Or lay a silhouette
and let the other guess what it is.
56
Kids & Teens Club Manual
Cotton wool and balloon blowing
Two teams compete against each other: They need to
move a cotton ball or a balloon with a straw over a certain
distance. At the end of the distance the straw is
handed over to the next player of the team. The fastest
team is the winner.
Name pantomime
Each child has to play his name as a pantomime, i.e.
representing each letter of the name with the pantomime.
Alex: A = apple, L = lion; E = elephant and X = xylophone
The other players need to guess the name. If the children
already know each other’s names, the entertainer
will whisper a person’s name in his ear and he plays this
name as a pantomime.
Master, master
“Meister, Meister, wir kommen aus dem Morgenland, die
Sonne hat uns braungebrannt. Meister, Meister, gib uns
Arbeit!” “Was habt ihr denn gelernt?”
Players present professions in mime.
Dracula
All children are “blind” (blindfolded). The entertainer
secretly appoints one child to be a vampire, who is also
blind. Now all children start to move around in the
room. Once the vampire bangs into another child he
lets out a bloodthirsty yell, and the victim also becomes
a vampire and goes “hunting”. However if two vampires
bounce together, they become normal children again.
Play the game as long as the children enjoy it.
Water relay
Divide the children into two groups of the same size.
Then they line up behind each other. The first child of
each row gets a bucket filled up to the rim with water.
The buckets need to be passed from the front to the
end, without spilling too much water. The last child then
runs with bucket to the front and the game starts
anew. The entertainer will stop the game after some
rounds. The group with the most water in the bucket
wins this challenge. Some music in the background
completes the funny atmosphere.
Natural picture
The children look for little branches, leaves, stones etc.
in the close vicinity. Then they try to create a picture
with these materials. Use branches and stones to frame
the picture. Who can see what has been created. Also
suitable as competition!
Natural collection – a competition
Material: a list with items to be collected and found
Each child gets a list with ten different items to be collected
(found) in as short time as possible. The entertainer
gives the starting signal and all children try to
find their items. These items might be: A cone, a small
branch, seashells, sand, pebble stones, etc. Once the
first child has found all the items on its list, all other
children are called back to the starting point. Maybe a
whistle is required to do so. Now we count how many
items each child has found.
Animal race – a competition
Material: Pictures of animals, 2 jars
Make pictures of animals moving in a special way, i.e.
frog, snake, kangaroo, rabbit, caterpillar, etc. There
need to be two pictures of each animal. A picture of
each animal is put in each of the jars. Now divide the
children in two groups of the same size and line them
up at a starting point. Mark up a turning point in
approx. 20 m distance. Place the two jars at this turning
point. Once the starting signal is given the first player
of each group runs to the turning point, draws a picture
of his jar and moves back to his group like the animal
on his picture would move. Now it is the next player’s
turn. Which group will win?
The fooled conductor
Material: A blindfold, a thin stick
One child will be the conductor and needs to be blindfolded.
The other children stand around him in a circle.
Then the conductor starts conducting the other children
in one direction or the other with his baton, then
the children stop moving and the conductor points with
his baton to one child who starts singing a song with a
disguised voice. If the conductor guesses the child’s
name, this child will be the new conductor. If not, start
the next song!
Roll the ball
Material: A big ball, several smaller balls
Divide the children in two groups of the same size. The
groups line up at two lines which are approx. 10 meters
apart. A big ball is placed in the middle of the two lines.
Now the players need to move the big ball behind the
line of the other team. The ball shall be moved by throwing
the smaller balls against it.
This ball is for …
Material: Ball
One player throws the ball as high as he can in the air
and calls out the name of another player for whom this
ball is thought. This player now tries to catch the ball; if
Kids & Teens Club Manual 57
he manages, he calls stop and all other are not allowed
to move anymore. Now he tries to touch a third player
by rolling the ball towards him. If he manages, the third
player is out of the game, if not he himself leaves the
game and a new player starts throwing.
Chinese football
Material: Ball
The children are standing in a circle, legs opened in a
V-shape. The feet of the players need to touch. Objective
is to roll the ball through the others feet, who
defend their goal with their hands and elbows, however
the arms remain folded. It is not allowed to shoot on
the next player’s goal. If a goal is hit, this player does
not need to leave the game yet, he continues playing
with one arm only. The other arm is on the back. If he
gets the next goal, he has to turn around; the one arm
goes on the back. Only after the fourth goal he leaves
the game. Alternative: Players not shooting any goals
also need to turn around and play “blind”.
Bluff ball
Material: ball
The children form a circle, in the middle is a player with
a ball. All children in the circle have folded their arms on
their back. The player in the middle pretends to throw
the ball to another player; sometimes he really throws it
though. If the other player really believes the bluffs or
cannot catch the ball, he goes in the middle then.
Island hopping
Material: Newspaper
The newspaper represents islands and is placed on the
floor. Each child stands on one island. Now the children
start hopping from one island to the next. They can
also jump or move in any other way. The entertainer
walks around and takes one island after the other away.
It is getting more and more difficult not to fall of the
island. Helping the others is permitted and desired. Can
they manage to stand at least with one foot on the last
island? Players falling in the water are leaving this round
of the game.
Fire, water, air and earth (with a ball)
Material: Ball
The children are sitting in a circle. One player is in the
middle and has a ball. Now he throws the ball to one of
the children and calls out either “fire, water, air or
earth” The player who caught the ball needs to quickly
name an animal relating to this element. I.e. Earth –
kangaroo. If the player in the middle called out “fire”
the ball shall not be caught. If the fire ball is caught or
the animal cannot be named quick enough this player
goes in the middle.
Dog kennel
The children always sit in pairs behind each other; their
legs are straddled and represent the dog’s kennel. Two
children are moving around freely. One of the children
is the hunter, the other the dog. The hunter now tries
to catch the dog, who can find shelter in the kennel.
Once the dog chooses a kennel the child in the rear
automatically becomes the hunter and the former hunter
becomes the dog.
This ball releases
Again there are one or two catchers, depending on the
amount of children participating. Each child not holding
a ball can be caught. The children can help each other
by throwing the ball to the others. Quite difficult!
Rabbit in the nest
Depending on the size of the group tow or children
form a nest. The rabbit is sitting in this nest. There are
also a fox and a rabbit that does not have nest. The fox
tries to catch this rabbit which can find shelter in the
other rabbit’s nest. Now this rabbit needs to leave the
nest, as it is too small for two.
Manitou
Material: Ball
The children are standing in a circle; one child is in the
middle. The child in the middle continues throwing the
ball to the other, always calling out “Manitou”, which
means the children, shall not take the ball, thus it bounces
off the children. Set the case the child calls out
“Mungo bear” instead, the children have to catch the
ball. The child catching the ball passes it back to the
child in the middle. Children making a mistake, leave the
game for this round.
Hare hunt
Material: Twigs, stones, other material to mark up a
field.
Two players are selected to be the hares. They should
know the environment. The hares go their own way
now, but they leave traces for the others, using stones,
twigs or ribbons. After 10 minutes the dogs start the
hunt. Can they get the hares before they return to the
starting point?
Cops and robbers
In this game there are more cobs than robbers. The
cobs count until 50, having their eyes shut. During this
time the robbers hide away. Then the cobs start hunting
the robbers. The robbers do not need to stay in
their hiding place; they can look for another one, but
shall not be caught. Caught robbers become cops.

Kids & Teens Club Manual
Banned by the pope
One player is the “pope”, he is at the finish line. The
other players start hiding. The pope starts searching
the other players and if he sees one, he calls out his
name aloud. This player is banned and goes to the
finish line. But he can also be freed again by another
player, if being touched by him. This is a risk for the
player, as he needs to creep to the finish areas without
being seen by the pope. If the pope sees him too, he
can also ban him.
Water carrier
Material: 4 buckets, 2 plates
The players are building two groups. Each group has a
bucket filled with water, an empty bucket and a plate.
The full bucket is located in approx. 20 meters distance
to each team. The empty bucket is with the team. After
the starting signal the first player of each team runs
with the plate to the full bucket and tries to carry some
water to the empty bucket. Then it is up to the next
player of team and so on. After five minutes we will
measure who has the most water in his bucket. Alternative:
Use a sponge to transport the water.
Long jump
Two teams line up in a row. The first player of each
team starts jumping as far as possible. His landing point
is the starting point for the next jumper of his team.
Which team can jump furthest?
Pitchers and runners
Build two teams, in one team are the pitchers and in
the other the runners. Pitchers are standing in to lines,
approx. 5 meters from each other and are forming the
playground. The runners need to run around this field.
Meanwhile the pitchers throw diagonal to the pitcher on
the other side. Per ball caught there is one point. Once
all runners have made their tour round the field, pitchers
and runners change. Who has the most points?
Race on islands
Material: 4 pages newspaper
Organise two teams, then each team is divided in two
groups of the same size. They stand opposite each
other in approx. 15 m distance. The first player has two
newspapers in front of him. After the starting signal he
tries to reach the opposite group, but is not allowed to
touch the ground. He always has to stand on one of his
two newspapers. When he reaches his group, it is up to
the next player. Which group is fastest?
Ping-Pong blowing
Material: Table, chalk, ping-pong balls
Two teams required. Draw a line in the middle of the
table with the chalk. Place the ping-pong balls at this
line. The members of the team are on the left and the
right of the table. With the starting signal the teams try
to move the balls by blowing it over the edge on the
other side of the table. The team who has fewer balls
on the floor is the winner.
Balloon relay
Material: 2 Chairs, balloons
Again two teams are required. Each team lines up in a
row at the starting line and each member of a team has
balloon without air in his hands. The two first players of
each team start, run to the chair blow up the balloon
there and sit as long on it as it explodes. Then they run
back. And the next player starts. The team whose balloons
burst first and who is standing in a row at the
starting line is the winner.
Bottle race
Material: 2 bottles
This game is to be played in two teams, both queue up
at the starting line. After the starting signal both first
players start running towards the bottle at the end of
the lane, there they put their index finger on the bottle
neck and start turning 15 times. While turning, they
always look at the bottle. The others support them with
counting. Then they try to run back as fast as possible
and the next player starts. The fastest group wins.
Water ball sucking
Material: Ping-pong balls, straws, bucket (basin) with
water
Two teams are required. Each participant has a straw.
The teams are queuing up at a starting line, at the end
of the lane is a bucket filled with water and approx. 30
ping-pong balls. With the starting signal the first player
runs to the bucket, sucks a ping-pong ball with the
straw out of the bucket, puts it in his hand and runs
back to his team. The team who first has managed to
get all the ping-pong balls of the water is the winner.
Animal pantomime relay
Prepare cards with different animals on it. These are
put in two piles on the floor. The children have to run
to the piles, turn a card and mime the animal shown on
the card, i.e. come back stomping like an elephant. (It is
also funny to have monster, be creative!) The next
player can only start after giving a high five.
Not the fastest team, but the one with the best animals
wins.
Kids & Teens Club Manual 59
Carrot pulling
All children lie on the floor and strongly link arms with
each other. They need to lie really close together; there
shall not be a gap between them. They are the carrots.
One entertainer is the farmer. Now he tries to pull out
the “carrots” at their feet. While doing so he tells the
children stories to distract them. As soon as the first
carrot is pulled out, the other children need to close the
gap quickly. The farmer(s) need to wait. The harvested
carrot now becomes a farmer too and helps pulling out
the carrots. It is important to emphasise that the children
shall not pull grapping the others joints or even
jewellery, if one child calls out STOP, it means STOP!
Then move on to another carrot and try to harvest this
one. The last remaining pair of carrots is the winner.
Ticking
Can be played on the playground, one child is the ticker
and needs to catch the other children. If these are standing
or sitting on some play equipment (i.e. not on the
floor) they can not be ticked.
Chain ticking
As before one ticker needs to catch the other children,
children who been ticked then hold the ticker’s hand
and start building a chain. Then they continue catching
other children. The chain is not supposed to break!
Teatime
Organise four teams
n on the floor (always two team sit opposite each
other)
n One bucket of water is placed in the middle.
n The child in front holds a spoon in his hand
n Behind the last child is a cup
n With the starting signal the first children start filling
water on their spoon and pass the spoon to the back.
The last child in the row fills the remaining water in
the cup.
n The spoon is passed to front again and the first child
now takes the position of the last child.
n The team whose front man is back in the front first is
the winner, but it is also important that there is some
water in the cup!
Balancing a tea spoon on the nose
is also a great competition for children.
Do not forget to slightly breathe on them before the
start of the game.
Rainbow game
The catcher is on one side, the other players are standing
on the other. The players ask the catcher: “Rainbow
catcher, which colour is shining today?” Then the
catcher nominates a colour. If he calls back: „Today
green is shining!” he is not allowed to catch any children
wearing clothes with the colour green. (Only visible
clothes are meant, no underwear). The children start
running to the other side of the field, and the catcher
needs to try those who are not wearing any green.
He can run forwards and to the sides, but not backwards.
Children who have been caught help the
catcher. The child remaining at the end will be the
new catcher.
Seashell balancing
Place a seashell on the child’s forehead, then the child
needs to run, still with the seashell on the forehand to
the child opposite it and hand the shell over.
Football
Goal shooting – entertainer might be goal keeper
n Long distance shooting
n Trick – shoot the ball with the head
(use a light, blown up ball)
Balloon volleyball
Fix a thread between two trees and divide the children
in two teams. When the balloon lands on the floor of
one team, the other team gets a point. Best is to fill the
balloon with a little water, then it does not fly totally
uncontrolled.
Shoe golf
Distribute several numbered papers (A4 or minimum
post card size) in the environment (playground, sport
fields). Determine a starting point from which the children
start hitting the ball (table tennis, bouncy ball) with
the heel of their shoe towards the numbered papers.
The shoe might either be worn on the foot or hold in
the hand.
Water volleyball
Stretch a rope / net over the middle of the pool. Organise
two teams like at volleyball. Now the ball needs to
be hit over the net. If the ball lands in the water, the
other team gets a point.
Blind volleyball
This game is to be played like normal volleyball; the difference
is that the net is covered with old bed linens or
similar. This sounds really simple, but in fact it is quite
confusing and really funny. Nobody can see when and
from where the ball comes. Alternative: The ball can
only played over the net using a towel. Always two children
play together.
60
Kids & Teens Club Manual
Rounders
Organise two teams. One team is lined up at the edge
of the field; the other is on the field. Some mats are laid
out as saving spaces round the edge; in the middle of
the field is a ring. One player of the team on the field
stands in front of the ring. Each team has a certain time
in which they can collect points. The team in the middle
distributes on the field. The team on the outside starts
and throws a ball in the field and then starts running
over the mats. The inner team catches the ball, throws
it to the player close to the ring who then throws the
ball into the ring and screams out “burned” as soon as
the ball is in the ring. The player running on the outside
needs to stop on a mat, if he is not close to a mat, he is
burned. Now the next starts throwing the ball and all
children being on the mats can continue running round
the field. Who has reached the last mat, made a point
for his team? Players, who can make the round at once,
get three points. In the end all points are summed up
and the teams change. The team with the most points
wins.
Untie the knot
At least four children hold each other’s hand, the first
child in the queue starts climbing over and through the
others arms and legs, and then finally it holds the hand
of the last child in the queue. Now the group shall try to
untie the knot without letting loose.
Who catches the monkey?
The children are lined up in a row; one child (the monkey)
is standing approx. four meters away. Draw a line 4
meters behind the children, using chalk or a rope. The
monkey starts making different movements which the
others have to imitate, i.e. lift the knees, right arm
circles over the head, etc. But once he touches the floor
with both of his hands; the other children need to run
away and get into shelter behind their line. If the monkey
manages to catch a child still before the saving line,
roles are exchanged. The funnier and more detailed the
monkey makes his gymnastics the more the children
tend to forget to run away.
4.4. ICE BREAKER ACTIVITIES AND GETTING
TO KNOW EACH OTHER
Pack my case
All children are sitting in a circle and pack their case for
the journey. But they do not want to travel alone. They
travel with various children from the club. The first child
starts and says: “I make a journey and xxx accompanies
me”. Then the next one says: “I make a journey and xxx
and xxx accompany me”. And so on. The game can also
be played combining names and hobbies. If yes, advance
one place
The children are sitting on chairs in a circle. Different
questions are being asked. Children answering to the
questions with yes can advance one place to the right.
In the end it might well be that several children are sitting
on each others laps.
Example for questions: Do you have a dog? Have you
got long hair?
All sorted
There might be sub-groups, if there are too many children.
The entertainer determines in according to which
characteristic the children line up, i.e. colour of the hair,
age, size, initial of the first name, favourite colour from
light to dark, etc. If you want it to be a competition you
can measure the time.
Getting up
2, 4, 6 or more children are sitting back to back in a
circle and are being linked up with their arms. Now they
try to stand up together, the bigger the group, the
more difficult it gets.
Wrong way round
One child after the other says its name, but the wrong
way round, i.e. not Martin but Nitram. This might be
repeated with hobbies, favourite colours or animals etc.
This is really funny and names can be remembered
more easily.
Gestures
Played similar to “I pack my case” but with gestures.
The first child says “ My name is …and I have brought a
…” (nodding, head shaking, stomping etc.) The child
needs to make the corresponding gesture to each sentence.
Then it is up to the next child. It points out to
the previous child and says, “This is …, he brought …
(Gesture from before) And my name is … and I have
brought …”. And so on …
Kids & Teens Club Manual 61
Ball of wool
The children are sitting in a circle and the entertainer
holds a ball of wool in his hands. He then passes on the
wool to a child who says its age and favourite food. The
wool is being passed on to the other children, with
more questions. At the end all is going backwards, you
will see if the children remember what the other said,
as they need to repeat the information.
4.5. PARACHUTE GAMES
Building a circus tent
All children are holding the parachute up in the air.
Then all make a step to the front under the parachute
and pull it quickly down behind the back, now the children
sit down on the inner edge of the parachute. Now it
is time to welcome the children in the circus tens. This
tent is also suitable for secret meetings in the tipi on
the Indians day.
Swap places
All children throw the parachute as high as they can
over their heads, let it loose and quickly run to the
other side in order to swap place with their opposite
player. Try to catch the parachute again when arriving
at the new place. Children who are not fast enough are
being caught under the big cloth.
What can fly?
All children are standing around the parachute and hold
it. The parachute is still on the floor. Now different
items are being place onto it. Then the children start
moving the parachute up and down. Which items can
fly best?
Favourite colours
All children are sitting in front of their favourite colour
on the parachute. Now the entertainer gives the children
different instructions, i.e. all children sitting in front
of the colour red, run around the parachute. Obviously
this can be played with different colours and activities
to be carried out.
Pull ball
A bucket is placed on the parachute; next to the bucket
is a ball. Try to get the ball in the bucket by cleverly
moving it with the parachute!
Who is faster?
Place a ball on the parachute. Then a child is going on
the parachute, the other children who are standing at
the outside swing the parachute and thus try to hit the
child in the middle with the ball. Children who have
been hit by the ball go to the outside and another child
comes in the middle.
Getting the balls
A box with balls is placed under the parachute. Now the
children start swinging the parachute up and down. The
entertainer calls out the names of two children who
have to try to get out as many balls as possible out of
the box as long as the parachute is up in the air. Who
can get the most balls?
Upside down
All try together to turn the parachute. In the end the
bottom side shall be up. But mind, all hands stay on the
parachute!
Table
All children lean back while holding the parachute firmly.
Can they balance out? When the cloth is on the floor,
one child might also sit or lie in the middle. Can the
others manage to lift it up?
Kim game
Some children are crawling beneath the parachute. The
one child has to have look which children are under the
parachute and then it leaves the room. Now one of the
children at the edge, changes place with a child under
the parachute. The child who left the room is called
back in and has to guess who is new under the parachute.
Come with me, run away
All children hold the parachute and start slowly turning
in a circle. One child is running around this circle and
ticks on another child’s back, saying either “come with
me” or “run away”. If it said “come with me” both children
run in the same direction and try to reach the spare
space first, if it said “run away”, the run in opposite
directions. Who could not get the free space, starts the
new round.
Swapping socks
The parachute is swung up and down. Then the entertainer
calls out two names, those two children move
under the parachute when it is up. When the parachute
62
Kids & Teens Club Manual
is down, the children make some changes to themselves,
i.e. swapping socks, putting the shoes on the wrong
way round, tying a knot in the t-shirt etc. When they
have finished they give a signal and the parachute is lifted
up again. The two come out and stand on the parachute.
Now the others need to guess which changes
have been incorporated.
Blind man’s buff
All children are standing round the parachute and swing
it up and down with their eyes shut. The entertainer
ticks on one child’s shoulder. This child quickly hides
under the parachute, once it is up. Then the entertainer
calls out: Put the parachute on the floor. All children
open their eyes. Can they guess which child is under the
parachute?
Colours
All turn with parachute in a circle. Once the entertainer
calls out a colour, they let the parachute fall and sit
down on this colour. (Can also be played calling out different
parts of the body.)
One, two, three, you are gone
A ball is placed on the parachute, all children are swinging
the parachute with the ball, trying to avoid that the
ball falls of the parachute. The child, who let the ball fall
off, can go under the parachute and try to influence
with his feet where the ball is rolling.
Circus director
Place the parachute on the floor, now all children sit
with some distance to each other on the parachute.
One child is appointed circus director and sits in the
middle. Its eyes will be blindfolded. All the other children
are little artists, apart from another one, which tries
to quietly approach to the director and touch him. If the
circus director hears this child approaching he points to
the child and the child goes back on its place. If the
child manages to touch the director, it becomes the new
director. For the next round places round the parachute
are swapped.
Catching prey
Duration: approx. 15 minutes
Material: Jelly bears (alternatively berries, cherries)
Bats can catch their prey with high precision during the
flight. Mostly the prey is directly caught with the
mouth, sometimes the wings are supporting. All children
line up in a row, holding their hands on the back.
Then a jelly bear (moth) is thrown in the air, the child
needs to try and catch it with its mouth. In another
attempt the wings (arms) might be used to support
which might guarantee some success. As a third alternative
all children are flying around, the jelly bears are
being thrown up in the air, each bat tries to be faster
than its competitors.
Robber – prey
Duration: Approx. 15 minutes
Material: Eye folds
Children will learn in a game to orientate like the bats
to catch their prey.
Alternative 1: In a circle
All children are standing in a circle. One child with blindfolded
eyes will be the bat; it then stands in the middle
of the circle. Then another three till five children are
appointed moths and go in the circle. The bat now has
to catch the moths. In the dark this can only
ork with echolocation. The bat calls out “bat” whereas
the moths have to answer with “moth”. The bat’s cry
thus is the bats’ ultrasound and the moth’s answer the
echo. The bat should therefore give as often as possible
its ultrasounds, in order to be able to orientate on the
regular echo and catch the moths.
Alternative 2: Scenery
Also in this alternative the echolocation of the bats will
be recreated. Scenery with different elements is being
built. Some children are trees, they will answer with
tree, and others are hedge, pond, frog or insect and
answer accordingly. There might be further elements
such as lanterns etc. One to three children can be the
bats and get blindfolded. Objective of the game is to
successfully guide the bats through the night into their
hunting district, where they will finally find their prey,
the moths.
Bat – owl game
Duration: 15 minutes
Material: Chalk or long rope
A quiz combined with fast movement, which will help to
memorise gained knowledge.
Organise two groups: Bats and owls. Both groups are
standing one meter apart, face to face, divided by the
middle line. In ten meters distance there is a further
line on each side. Now statements concerning bats are
made, which might be right or wrong. If the statement
is right the bats chase the owls, if it is wrong the owls
chase the bats. Who reaches the saving line in time
continues playing in the other team the next round.
Examples for correct statements: Bats are mammals,
bats are winter sleepers, bats are only weighing five
grams, and bats eat insects…
Examples for wrong statements: bats lay eggs, bats
have feathers, bats eat leaves

4.6. POOL GAMES
Water hedgehog
Fill a plastic bag with water and tie it up. Then pinch
many small holes into the bag using a thin needle.
Throwing competition
One swim toy is placed at the edge of the pool. Children
try to hit it throwing balls or sponges.
Fishing
The children need small fishing nets. Different objects
and animals (made of foam rubber, plastic, rubber etc.)
need to be caught with the net.
White Shark
Upon the signal of the entertainer all children jump
into the water and hide. One child is appointed to be
the white shark and jumps into the water, too, in order
to catch the other children. Children who have been
caught be the shark, swim to the edge of the pool. The
child being caught last is the next shark in the new
round. The game continues like before.
Spoon diving
The children are standing outside the pool with closed
eyes. The entertainer hides a number of spoons in the
pool. Upon the signal “ready, steady, go” the children
jump into the pool and try to dive for as many spoons
as possible. Before the game starts the entertainer
informs the children about the exact amount of spoons
hidden in the pool.
Swimming race
The entertainer organises two groups the same size and
with the same swimming skills. In different rounds the
children can collect points for their teams. Kids particularly
enjoy if the winners are being served by the losers
at the pool bar after the competition.
n Swimming contest from one end of the pool to the
other holding a balloon in one hand
n Swimming contest with life vests
n Swimming contest: Swimming to the other end, roll
the dice until you have six, and swim back
n Contest with a swimming noodle
n Contest with children surf boards
Water bomb relay
The children are divided into two groups and are standing
outside the pool at the edge. After a signal the
first child swims to the other side holding a water bomb
in his hand, from there it throws the bomb to the next
child on the opposite side. As soon as this child has
caught or found the water bomb it starts swimming.
And so on. Objective is that the water bomb does not
burst and all children successfully reach the other side.
Under water tunnel
The participants line up in the pool with straddled legs.
Then the last child in the row starts diving through the
others’ legs until reaching the first child standing in the
row and then it pads on the shoulder of the child
behind him who then passes on the signal etc. Only
when the last child got the signal it can start diving.
The first team being in the initial line up is the winner.
Merman
One child is appointed merman. He stands on the edge
outside the pool. The other players are standing on the
opposite side. Now the merman calls ”Who is afraid of
the merman?” The other answer: “Nobody”, the merman
asks “and if he comes?” and the others answer
“Then we swim away!” This is the final starting signal.
The children jump into the water, all kind of movement
is permitted to run away or catch the others: Swimming,
diving, running, hopping etc …) but the children
have to stay in the pool. The child, who is not caught
last, is the next merman.
Treasure diving
Some stones covered in aluminium foil are thrown in
the pool, mind to throw one stone less than there are
participants. All children are swimming in the pool waiting
for the starting sign of the entertainer. With the
signal the treasure hunt starts and all children dive for
the gemstones. The diver who could not get a stone
leaves the pool. Then the stones are thrown anew,
again one stone less than children in the water. The
game ends when there is only one diver left. This game
can also be played with coloured boccia balls which
float on the surface.
Water aerobics
The entertainer is in the pool with the children and
shows them different movements:
n walk from one side to the other, lifting the feet up
high
n circulate the arms forward and backward
n having a water fight
n all children move like water snakes, hop like water
fleas or dive like a fish
n all children fly like dragon flies, hop like frogs or sit
on the edge of the pool
64
Kids & Teens Club Manual
n throw water bombs up in the air and catch them
again
n catching balls
n dance the MAGIC MUNGO disco dance
Whaler
One child is appointed to be the whaler. The others
build a circle round the whaler. Now the whaler tries to
hit the whales with a ball. The whales can get into security
by diving under the water. The child being last
whale is the next round’s whaler.
Water snakes
This game is similar to tug of war on land. Objective is
to bring the rope over a certain mark-up.
Water fight
Two teams are being organised, each team gets an air
bed. A player of each group sits on this airbed. Objective
is to push the player into the water using a water
noodle.
Piranhas
There are always two piranhas fighting each other. Each
player has to or three ribbons in his swimming
trunks / suit, whereof approx. 30 cm are visible. The
player who first has no ribbons anymore is loser. This
can also be played as a group game. Players, who have
no ribbons anymore, leave the game and cannot rob
the others’ ribbons.
T-shirt relay
The first child puts on a T-shirt, jumps into the water
swims a length and back and the passes on the T-shirt
to the next child.
Water rally
A ball or balloon needs to be transported a length and
back either using the hands or even more difficult the
head only.
Ferryman
Transport the smallest person of the team on an airbed
a length and back through the pool.
Airbed rally
A rope is fixed crossways over the river (pool). Each
member of the team has to cross the river sitting on
the airbed pulling itself forward using the rope.
Airbed hopping
You need several airbeds per team, as the participants
need to try and jump from one airbed to the next. If
they fall in the water they need to start anew or the
next member starts. Which team is best and most persons
cross?
Passionate collectors
There are some water toys in the middle
of the pool. The members of each team
are lined up on the opposite pool sides. Upon a signal
they jump into the water and try to move as many toys
as possible on their side of the pool. Alternative: None
of the toys might be touched with the hands, the toys
only move due to the water movement.
Water limbo
The children must try to swim / run under a bar similar
to the original limbo dance. Participants touching the
bar or making it fall leave the game. The bar is lowered
from round to round.
Water ball
Divide the children into two teams. Each team has a
goalkeeper; the others try to throw as many goals as
possible.
Relays
A certain distance has to be passed with bucket full of
water or a mug filled to its rim standing on a tray.
Objective of the game is to spill as little water as possible.
Fin fights
The players carry a dry sponge in their hand, run to the
bucket and let the sponge soak in the water. Then they
run back.
Lion’s mane jellyfish
All players stand in a circle holding each others’ hands.
The jellyfish swims in the middle (i.e. a ball) now the
players try to move another player to the jellyfish by
pulling or pushing him there.
Clothes relay
Put on trousers, shirt, cap, gloves, jump in the water,
move to the other side, get undressed and pass it on to
the next player.
Water ball rally
A ball or balloon needs to be transported a length and
back either using the hands or even more difficult the
head only.
Kids & Teens Club Manual 65
Post from the island
Per team you need several airbeds, now try to throw
balloons filled with water from one island to the next.
Which team manages to throw most balloons?
A new way of leap frog
Two teams with a maximum of four children each, compete
against each other. One team is on one side of the
pool, the other team on the opposite. The participants
line up in the pool with straddled legs. Then the last
child in the row starts diving through the others’ legs
until reaching the first child standing in the row. The
team reaching the other side first wins this competition.
Pool long jump
The children try to jump as far as possible in the pool.
The entertainer holds a water noodle as marking. Children
not managing to jump over the noodle or touching
it, leave the game. In the next round the distance gets a
bit further. Alternative: Maybe you need some run-up in
order to jump even further. Who jumps furthest is the
winner. Important: It is mandatory to put towels on the
run-up distance and round the edge of the pool to
avoid that children slip.
Petrified
One child is the hunter; each child that the hunter
catches in the water petrifies. The hunter wins, if all
children are petrified. Children can come back to life,
when they are rescued by children not petrified yet and
these dive through their legs.
Water bomb
Who jumps as the best water bomb in the pool?
Assessment might be a bit difficult, therefore 2or 3
entertainers or even the guests at the pool shall decide.
Hunting and catching
Two teams stand opposite each other; the distance between
them is 2-3 meters. The entertainer appoints one
team to be hunters, immediately the other team tries to
rescue itself to edge of the pool. It is the other way
round the next turn. In order to better know who has
been caught or touched, it can be helpful to hunt for
swimming caps or ribbons.
Water wings relay
Make relay with water wings on the arms and legs.

Baking fortune cookies
The children create small cards with different messages
(lucky clover, hearts for love, sun, flowers, rainbow and
different messages). Before it actually starts the children
wash their hands, in the meantime the entertainer
prepares the working space (underlay, dough, baking
tray). The dough is distributed to the children and each
child forms small balls. Fold the messages really small
and tuck the in the dough balls in such way that they
are not visible anymore. Now use the index and the
middle finger to form a kind of lip. The cookies can be
eaten by the children or given to parents and other
guests. They might be made for special purposes such
as kids’ parties and birthdays.
Clown hats
Transfer the form of the hat from the template onto
cardboard. Colour the hats and decorate it with starts
and other motifs. Staple the ends together and fix elastic
band at the lower edge. Decorate the top of the hat
with crepe paper.
Funny octopus
For the octopus you need so called “Hexentreppen”
which are made like this: Cut coloured cardboard into
approx. 1 cm wide stripes. Glue the end of two stripes
together. Then start folding, first one stripe then the
other, you will obtain an accordion. Glue the ends
together, too. Then draw the octopus’ head on cardboard
and cut it off, glue the legs to the head – and you
will have a funny octopus.
Juggling balls

create your own favourite pattern, no matter if dots,
stripes or prongs. Let dry. For necklace and bracelet
you knot the noodle on a string. For earrings bind an
elastic band round the middle of the noodle, best
noodles for earrings are Farfalle (butterfly shape), for
hair slides also wrap an elastic round the noodle.
Wind wheels
Material: Square sheets of paper, straws, scissors, paper
clip, cardboard
Age group: Minis, Kids
Cut a straight line from each corner towards the middle.
Take care, there needs to be 1cm space to the middle.
Cut a circle with 2.5 cm diameter out of the cardboard,
and make a little hole in the middle. An adult will make
a little hole for you in the straw. Now bend the four
corners towards the middle and use the tip of the scissors
to place a hole in the overlapping ends. Now press
the paperclip from the front to the back through the
wind wheel, the cardboard and the straw. Fix with the
ends of the clip.
Jumping jack

Kids & Teens Club Manual 69
attach arms and legs with each other. Knot a pulling
string in the middle of each string. Fix a pearl at the end
of the pulling string. (See template)
Paper-maché pigs

egg holders as the pig’s legs and one as nose. Tear the
newspaper into small stripes and glue them with the
wall paper paste to the balloon. Take care that a thick
layer of paper is glued to the balloon, you need many
layers! Then let the pig dry. Also form ears and a snout
out of the paper-maché. Once the pig is dry you can
paint it. Use a knife to make a slot on the top – if you
want it to be a piggy bank. This is when the balloon
normally bursts.
Ghost finger-puppet

cut out off the white paper and then glued on. Then cut
out two tentacles using the black cardboard. Glue the
leg on the bottom side of the body. In the end we glue
the peg between the two halves of the body.
Frogs
Material: Green and red cardboard, wooden pegs, black
felt pen, scissors, colour pens, glue, sandwich paper
Age group: Minis
Start to transfer the silhouette of the frog onto the
green cardboard. Then draw some points on the frog’s
belly. Also draw the eyes. Use a black felt pen to draw a

Recipe for salt dough
Ingredients: 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of salt, 8-10 tablespoons
water
Mix flour, salt and water in a bowl, until you have
smooth dough. Then you can use the dough and form
any little item the children wish to. The items are baked
in the preheated oven at 150° for 30 – 40 minutes.
After baking and cooling off, they can be coloured, or
the dough can be coloured in advance using food colouring.
70
Kids & Teens Club Manual
Colouring the dough:
You can either use food colouring or elderberry juice
instead of the water. However these colours fade out
with baking, but it is more fun for the kids to work with
coloured dough. Children can also paint the baked
items, smaller kids may use water colours, and older
children can use acrylics.
Do not forget to make holes!
After baking the dough can easily break up, so do not
forget to make a hole in the little ones works, like this
they can hang it up and there will be no tears.
Wallpaper paste
Salt dough becomes even better when you use 2–3
spoons of wallpaper paste.
Building a box for secrets
You need two square sheets of paper that need to be
folded as described below. One sheet will be the bottom
the other the top of your box:
1. Fold two diagonals and then fold all four corners to
the middle.
2. Now you need to fold each corner again up the
middle of the newly created square.
3. Finally you bend the small corners inside, now you
have grid.
4. Now you need some scissors. Cut straight along the
arrows, do not cut too far.
5. Fold the upper right corner towards the middle and
put up the edge of the box. Do similar with the
lower left corner.
6. Nearly managed! Now you need to turn both edges
of the sides. This will make your secret box quite
stable.
7. If you wish to you can decorate the box with
stickers, wrapping paper, or even a warning:
“My secrets” or “Top secret!”
Make you own soap bubbles

paste, 3 litres of water, 110 grams sugar, 110 grams
neutral soap, thick wire, wool, 1 cork or sticky tape and
patience!
Instruction:
1. Dissolve the wallpaper paste in 1 litre water, stir and
leave it.
2. Poor the rest of the water, the sugar and the neutral
soap together in one pot, stir it and cook it. Let
stand over night.
3. Mix both liquids together the next day and stir well.
Then fill the mixture into bottles. You should use it
within one week.
4. Now take the wire a forma big loop, fix the two
ends on the cork. Wrap either wool or sticky tape
around the ends to form a handle.
5. Now you can make giant bubbles.

need to raise the alarm to Guest relations who
can raise the alarm so a search can begin
(details of search on lost child emergency card).
This should be done by using the telephone to
speed up the process. Using the plans/maps of
the hotel staff to have a clear picture of what
area they are searching. Parents also need to be
alerted.
If hotel grounds have been searched and the
child still isn’t found then the local authorities
or police need to be informed.
