Size of groups:
All relevant and important information with respect to
the group sizes and the entertainer to child ratio might
be obtained by your Kids Club Chief or supervisor.
Participating at the Mini program:
It might happen that parents ask you if an under three
year old might participate at the Children Club program.
Unfortunately, this is not possible for insurance reasons.
You can use this explanation for the parents. However,
you can offer as an alternative that one parent comes
together with his child to the Children club and either
plays with the child himself or joins the program. It
is important though, that the program will not be disturbed.
Rules for bathing with children:
It always has to be considered which age group (Minis
or kids) is concerned:
1. We are never bathing with kids in the sea. For beach
events like Olympic Games at the beach it is ok to
have the feet in the water, but maximum until the
knees. All circumstances at the beach need to be
considered in this case, i.e. a gently shelving beach
or a steeper beach. Of course, bathing or swimming
in the sea is possible when the corresponding
parents participate in the event.
2. Kids can only go in the pool when accompanied by
an entertainer. At the best the entertainer is outside
the pool and oversees the situation. Should any
dangerous situations arise, which might be caused
by carelessness or not listening of the children, the
bathing fun can also be ended by the entertainer.
3. Safety first! Security questions:
m Can all children swim?
m Have rules been determined clearly with the
children?
m When does it get too much? How much fun is
being tolerated, when is getting dangerous?
m Where can I get help?
m Is a mobile phone available, if a doctor is needed?
4. All Minis go only swimming in the kids’ pool. They
need to be able to stand in the water.
5. If possible, organise water wings for all Minis. Especially
at this age group jealousy is quite big, when
the more experienced swimmers do not need to
wear water wings anymore. Additionally it offers
some more safety, as the children are often not
completely reliable swimmers yet.
6. It is always necessary that one entertainer is
standing outside the pool having the overview.
7. Same security questions apply, as determined in
point 3.
8. The parents should be informed, and individual
swimming skills should be considered. How strong is
the child, how far can it swim?
Liability:
According to §828 BGB (civil code) minors are not liable
for a damage. From the age of 7 onwards it depends on
the responsibility of the child / teenager in each individual
case. In case of intent or gross negligence a children’s
entertainer might be made liable for damage. In
case of slight negligence, the operator generally takes
over liability, as the entertainer is entrusted with a very
hazardous duty, namely the supervision of minors.
Anyhow in case of damage a form prepared by the travel
guides of the TUI Service AG needs to be completed
(damage report). Breech of the supervisory duty might
involve disciplinary measures (reminder, warning or
notice).
1.4. FIRST AID FOR CHILDREN – CORRECT
BEHAVIOUR IN EMERGENCY CASES
Set the case that despite all precautions an emergency
occurs, you should be well prepared. Even though it is
difficult: First of all keep calm!
Under no circumstances hesitate to render first aid. Do
not be afraid to make a mistake. The following measures
are always correct, no matter which emergency occurred:
n The permanent control of vital functions: Check
breathing, pulse, conscience and responsiveness of
the child.
n The emergency call: Hotel doctor
n Keeping the warmth: Take care that the injured child
does not get too cool.
n Psychological support: Make sure the injured child
feels not alone.
Continue these actions until emergency services arrive.
It is important that these measures are carried out in a
certain order. The rescue chain developed by specialists
ensures a quick rescue and treatment of the child. If
