small children every 3 seconds.

Children 3 years and older get mouth to nose breathing.

Hold the nose of the child and cover the child’s nose

with your mouth. Slightly breathe in 2 times subsequently,

and then let some air out. If this is not possible

due to cold or similar, provide mouth to mouth breathing.

Always consider: Check movements of the chest and / or

abdominal wall if you are successful.

Heart-lungs resuscitation

If the injured child suffers a heart-attack, and there is

no breathing and pulse anymore a cardiac massage is

required. Place the child on a solid surface, i.e. table.

At children under a year you can feel the pulse of the

inside of the upper arm, between shoulder and elbow.

The point where to apply the cardiac massage is

approx. 1 finger’s width below the teats. Always apply

5 cardiac massages, then one rescue breathing, put

your hand 2–3 fingers beneath the point for the cardiac

massage, apply the massage with a frequency of 100/

minute.

Count aloud: “One, two, three, four, five, breathing, one,

two,..”

At children older than a year feel the pulse at the carotid

artery next to the trachea on the side of the neck or

in the inguinal region. If you cannot feel pulse anymore,

apply five cardiac massages and one rescue breathing.

Put your hand on the middle line of the breast, 2 finger’s

width beneath the breastbone; do not press on

the ribs or the outer part of the breastbone. Start the

massage with a frequency of 80/minute.

Count: “One and two and three and four and five and

breathing and one and two…”

Children over eight will get 15 cardiac massages on two

breathings. Press with the hand on the region described

above, start with a frequency of 80/minute.

Count” One and two and (up to 15) and breathing and

one and two and …”

If you can not call the emergency, take the child (especially

infants) with you. Try all the time to reanimate.

(If you assume any injury of the spine, do not transport

the child, this is too dangerous. Try to find a phone

instead!)
