he manages, he calls stop and all other are not allowed
to move anymore. Now he tries to touch a third player
by rolling the ball towards him. If he manages, the third
player is out of the game, if not he himself leaves the
game and a new player starts throwing.
Chinese football
Material: Ball
The children are standing in a circle, legs opened in a
V-shape. The feet of the players need to touch. Objective
is to roll the ball through the others feet, who
defend their goal with their hands and elbows, however
the arms remain folded. It is not allowed to shoot on
the next player’s goal. If a goal is hit, this player does
not need to leave the game yet, he continues playing
with one arm only. The other arm is on the back. If he
gets the next goal, he has to turn around; the one arm
goes on the back. Only after the fourth goal he leaves
the game. Alternative: Players not shooting any goals
also need to turn around and play “blind”.
Bluff ball
Material: ball
The children form a circle, in the middle is a player with
a ball. All children in the circle have folded their arms on
their back. The player in the middle pretends to throw
the ball to another player; sometimes he really throws it
though. If the other player really believes the bluffs or
cannot catch the ball, he goes in the middle then.
Island hopping
Material: Newspaper
The newspaper represents islands and is placed on the
floor. Each child stands on one island. Now the children
start hopping from one island to the next. They can
also jump or move in any other way. The entertainer
walks around and takes one island after the other away.
It is getting more and more difficult not to fall of the
island. Helping the others is permitted and desired. Can
they manage to stand at least with one foot on the last
island? Players falling in the water are leaving this round
of the game.
Fire, water, air and earth (with a ball)
Material: Ball
The children are sitting in a circle. One player is in the
middle and has a ball. Now he throws the ball to one of
the children and calls out either “fire, water, air or
earth” The player who caught the ball needs to quickly
name an animal relating to this element. I.e. Earth –
kangaroo. If the player in the middle called out “fire”
the ball shall not be caught. If the fire ball is caught or
the animal cannot be named quick enough this player
goes in the middle.
Dog kennel
The children always sit in pairs behind each other; their
legs are straddled and represent the dog’s kennel. Two
children are moving around freely. One of the children
is the hunter, the other the dog. The hunter now tries
to catch the dog, who can find shelter in the kennel.
Once the dog chooses a kennel the child in the rear
automatically becomes the hunter and the former hunter
becomes the dog.
This ball releases
Again there are one or two catchers, depending on the
amount of children participating. Each child not holding
a ball can be caught. The children can help each other
by throwing the ball to the others. Quite difficult!
Rabbit in the nest
Depending on the size of the group tow or children
form a nest. The rabbit is sitting in this nest. There are
also a fox and a rabbit that does not have nest. The fox
tries to catch this rabbit which can find shelter in the
other rabbit’s nest. Now this rabbit needs to leave the
nest, as it is too small for two.
Manitou
Material: Ball
The children are standing in a circle; one child is in the
middle. The child in the middle continues throwing the
ball to the other, always calling out “Manitou”, which
means the children, shall not take the ball, thus it bounces
off the children. Set the case the child calls out
“Mungo bear” instead, the children have to catch the
ball. The child catching the ball passes it back to the
child in the middle. Children making a mistake, leave the
game for this round.
Hare hunt
Material: Twigs, stones, other material to mark up a
field.
Two players are selected to be the hares. They should
know the environment. The hares go their own way
now, but they leave traces for the others, using stones,
twigs or ribbons. After 10 minutes the dogs start the
hunt. Can they get the hares before they return to the
starting point?
Cops and robbers
In this game there are more cobs than robbers. The
cobs count until 50, having their eyes shut. During this
time the robbers hide away. Then the cobs start hunting
the robbers. The robbers do not need to stay in
their hiding place; they can look for another one, but
shall not be caught. Caught robbers become cops.
