A caller reported a man was walking around the neighborhood with a clipboard for more than three hours. An officer reported the man works for RCN. Suspicious activity was reported at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Wardhurst Shish Kebab & Steakhouse. A caller reported someone was struck by a car on a bicycle. An officer reported the person was gone upon arrival. A well-being check was conducted at 8:47 p.m. Monday after a caller reported another resident of Fairweather Apartments at 20 Central Ave. who was possibly intoxicated and kicked his door. Police reported the man struck a door with a golf club. Kevin Sousa, 63, of 20 Central St., Apt. 408, was issued a summons for malicious destruction of property and property damage to intimidate. Vandalism Vandalism was reported at 11:26 a.m. Monday at Peabody City Garage at 50 Farm Ave. A caller reported items were stolen. A report of vandalism at 7:07 p.m. Monday at Extended Stay America at 200 Jubilee Drive. A caller reported her vehicle was vandalized by the roofing company. Tuesday 7/27 Arrests Vipulkumar D. Patel, 46, of 21 Diane Road, was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon at 12 a.m. Tuesday. Accidents A report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries at 3:22 p.m. Tuesday at 50 Tremont St. Police reported a vehicle rolled over three times. Two people were taken to Salem Hospital. A report of a motor vehicle crash at 5:13 p.m. Tuesday at Capone’s Restaurant at 147 Summit St.; at 7:12 p.m. Tuesday at Bridge to Learning at 567 Lowell St. A motor vehicle crash was reported at 6:32 p.m. Tuesday at 21 Andover St. Thales Lago, 27, of 27 Tremont St., was issued a summons for following too close and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Wednesday 7/28 Arrests Patrick Joseph Corning, 38, homeless, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon at 9:19 p.m. Wednesday. Maxx at 300 Andover St.; at 4:24 p.m. Wednesday at 119 Bartholomew St.; at 1:22 a.m. Thursday at 15 Buttonwood Lane. Complaints A report of a fight at 9:19 p.m. Wednesday at Leather City Commons at 77 Lowell St. A caller reported approximately five people were brawling in the commons; one was reportedly using a large stick as a weapon. Thursday 7/29 Arrests Michael E. Pingaro, 37, of 78 Beaver St., Salem, was arrested and charged with OUI-drugs second offense, marked lanes violation and negligent operation of a motor vehicle at 1:31 p.m. Thursday. Accidents A report of a FedEx truck that crashed into a hydrant at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at 29 Endicott St. DPW was notified. Disturbance At 11:02 p.m. on Saturday a caller reported an altercation in the parking lot at Sonic on Newbury Street. The caller added that he believed one individual pulled out a handgun. Sunday 8/1 Accidents At 11:06 a.m. Sunday a caller reported that her vehicle was hit while parked on Paleologos Street. Disturbance On Sunday at 5:38 a.m. a caller reported that a female was walking naked in downtown Peabody. At 2:44 p.m on Sunday a caller reported that employees were fighting at Qdoba on 229 Andover Street. Scams A caller reported that she had been scammed out of $15,000 at 11:13 a.m. on Saturday. Well-Being Check At 1:08 p.m. on Saturday a caller requested a wellness check that resulted in an individual being sent to Beverly Hospital.

Talk openly with your health care provider about fall risks and prevention. Have your doctor review your medicines. Keep moving. Begin an exercise program to improve your strength and balance. Get an annual eye exam. Replace eyeglasses as needed. Make your home safe: Remove clutter and tripping hazards. Contact your local community or senior center for information on exercise fall-prevention programs, and options for improving home safety. Stay independent: One in four people 65 and older fall each year. What can you do to stay independent? Many people make financial plans for retirement, but not everyone plans for other changes that may come with age. This includes changes in your mobility and your ability to get around. It isn’t easy to talk about, but as we get older, physical changes can make it harder to get around and do things we want or need to do, like driving, shopping or doing household chores. (There may be a time when you still need to get around, but can no longer drive.) You might not have mobility problems now, but you could in the future. You may even know others who already do: perhaps a parent, relative, friend or neighbor. While it may not be possible to prevent all of these changes, there are actions you and your loved ones can take today, and as you age, to help keep you safe and independent tomorrow.
